Chapter 4 Alternative Medicine Is Superficial
- Lydia knocked on the door, then entered along with Francis.
- Lydia said, "Dr. Hunt, the family of the patient here requires the use of a set of silver needles."
- With a smile, Francis greeted him, "Nice to meet you, Dr. Hunt. Can I borrow your silver needles?"
- James Hunt, with a hint of confusion on his face, questioned, "For what purpose do you seek the silver needles?"
- "To rescue a life," Francis replied.
- "Do you know acupuncture?" James was somewhat surprised. These days, with the decline of alternative medicine, there are not many doctors who are proficient in acupuncture.
- "I possess some rudimentary understanding," Francis replied modestly.
- Examining the poisoned boy on the bed, James elucidated, "I possess only two sets of silver needles, one kept at home and the other currently in use on this child."
- Francis looked at the boy again, his Heavenly Eye clearly discerning the boy's meridians, flesh, and bones.
- The poison had already reached the boy's heart, but James was skilled. With just thirteen silver needles, he temporarily sealed off the toxins, preventing them from reaching the heart further.
- "I can neutralise his poison. I only hope that after I do, Dr. Hunt can lend me the silver needles," he said.
- Although the poison has reached the heart, it doesn't seem excessively aggressive. It's likely just a common pesticide or food poisoning.
- It's just that the poisoning has been prolonged without proper treatment, which resulted in the toxins reaching the heart.
- "Can you neutralise it?" James asked in surprise.
- He had been a veteran alternative medicine practitioner for over forty years, and he knew that the poison in the child's body was something that could be neutralised by only a handful of people in the entire Nervontia.
- "Where did this nonsense come from? Speaking so boldly. The poison in this child has reached his heart's arteries. It requires the modern medical method of electrotherapy to clear the arteries."
- At that moment, a young man walked in from outside, accompanied by a middle-aged doctor wearing gold-rimmed glasses.
- The middle-aged doctor, casting a disdainful glance at James, commented, "It's ludicrous that there are still adherents to alternative medicine."
- James and Francis exchanged glances, both feeling somewhat unsettled by the doctor's demeanour.
- The well-dressed young man interjected, "Aunt Rosalie, this doctor has just returned from Noirland with advanced knowledge in modern medicine. He offers a fifty per cent chance of curing Dylan."
- The doctor with glasses nodded confidently, asserting, "Fifty per cent is conservative. I'd venture to say I have at least a seventy per cent success rate."
- Upon hearing this, Rosalie seemed to have grasped a lifeline and hurriedly knelt before the doctor with glasses.
- "Please, I beg you to save my child. I have money. As long as you can cure my son, I'll give you 150,000 dollars," she begged.
- Francis' eyelids twitched. This seemingly ordinary woman turned out to be so extravagant.
- The doctor with glasses smiled satisfactorily. "Alright, take him to the intensive care unit. I'll treat him immediately. From now on, you should trust modern medicine. Alternative medicine is just superficial."
- The doctor's disdainful comments regarding alternative medicine didn't sit right with James, who frowned disapprovingly.
- While alternative medicine may have declined, the doctor with glasses went too far with his remarks.
- Stepping forward, the doctor with glasses glared at the silver needles on the young boy's body and exclaimed, "Alternative medicine harms people! How dare they stick needles into people's bodies? Who will bear the responsibility if something goes awry?"
- With that, he raised his hand, intending to remove the silver needles from the young boy's body.
- Francis immediately stepped forward to intervene. "You can't remove them. These silver needles are temporarily suppressing the toxins in his body. If they're removed, the toxins will quickly reach his heart, and that would cause real trouble."
- He acted solely on instinct, recognising that a life was at stake.
- The doctor with glasses shoved him aside angrily. "Who do you think you are? You're delaying my efforts to save this child. If he dies later because of this, can you take the responsibility?"
