Chapter 1 Unreasonable Mother and Daughter!

  • "The money was intended to save my sister's life, yet you used it and purchased a house for your brother!" Francis Lynch's gaze blazed with fury, his hand poised as though to strike the woman confronting him.
  • Luna Hanley's gaze flicked towards the girl lying on the hospital bed, whose face was obscured by an oxygen mask. With a chill in her tone, she uttered, "Don't you have any idea about your sister's disease? No matter the sum expended on her care, she'll end up with a cerebral palsy."
  • She spoke casually, oblivious to the weight of her actions, "It would serve a greater purpose to allocate it towards my brother's housing."
  • Luna's mother, Camila Levine, also chimed in, "Indeed, Francis, you should have grasped the situation well. Nowadays, finding a companion without a home is quite a challenge. As a prospective brother-in-law, it's only fitting for you to aid Archie.
  • "Luna only has Archie as a younger brother. If you help him, won't our family be even more harmonious in the future?"
  • The utterance from Luna and Camila sparked an inferno within Francis, and he erupted in fury, bellowing, "That's 45,000 dollars! Every last cent of it meant to save my sister's life! Archie may be Luna's sole brother, but Nora is my only sister. Why won't you contribute to aid in my sister's treatment?"
  • "Why the uproar? It's merely 45,000 dollars, hardly a substantial sum. Are you pinching pennies even within your family? Do you intend to strike me?" Luna countered illogically, "What's the use of saving your sister? Even if she recovers, she'll still be a liability. I'm aware your sister has critical illness insurance. When she dies, we'll still get tens of thousands of dollars in compensation."
  • Camila swiftly interjected, "Precisely, that's the idea. This also secures your ability to wed Luna. Let me make it clear. The dowry stands at 75,000 dollars, not a penny less."
  • As the mother and daughter harmonised in their agreement, Francis' hands quivered with indignation.
  • They were leveraging the hard-earned money his mother had toiled for to purchase a house for Archie, and now they dared to propose using his sister's insurance funds as dowry for them.
  • "Are you genuinely at ease using the money my mother toiled and sacrificed for? Aren't you afraid that God will punish you?"
  • Francis vividly remembered his mother's final moments, her hand tightly clasping his as tears streamed down her face after the accident. She had whispered, "Francis, I may not be able to care for you and your sister any longer. But when I'm gone, there will be compensation. Promise me you'll use it to save your sister.
  • "Promise me you'll save your sister … "
  • And then, Francis' mother breathed her last breath in his embrace, just like that.
  • Following the successful outcome of the compensation lawsuit, Francis received a sum of 45,000 dollars.
  • In that instance, Luna came to Francis and offered to pay his sister's medical bills with that compensation in his stead.
  • Yet upon his return from work, Francis was dismayed to find out that Luna had used his sister's life-saving funds to secure a down payment for her brother's house!
  • With a disdainful smirk, Luna remarked, "Well, Francis, it seems my estimation of you was off the mark. A mere 45,000 dollars, and you show your true colours. My mom's instincts were spot on about your lack of integrity."
  • "Fine! Luna, just a trifling sum of 45,000 dollars, isn't it? If you consider it inconsequential, then give it back to me. I urgently need it to save my sister!" Francis' voice rang out in desperation.
  • Confronted by his piercing stare, Luna remained unmoved, her words growing even more cutting.
  • "Francis, look at yourself. You're nothing but a delivery man, barely scraping by to afford me a decent handbag each month. Count yourself fortunate that I even considered you. And now, after squandering 45,000 dollars, you have the nerve to demand repayment from me!"
  • Camila chimed in, "Luna, I've cautioned you about getting involved with this delivery man. What prospects does he hold? Splurging 45,000 dollars on Archie's house is akin to putting his life on the line. It's high time you cut ties with someone like him."
