- Alek was up on his feet at the speed of light. Camilla didn’t want to retreat, but the way he approached her made her take a few steps back. He pinned her against the door, his hand tight around her neck, with his harsh breath fanning her face. She tried to punch him, but he grabbed both wrists.
- “Watch yourself,” Alek warned. He could start by taking his own advice. By being kinder. By being more humane. “You’re here because you don’t know when to stop. This is your last warning to shut up, Cam.”
- “Or what?” Camilla screamed, some of the fight already out of her body. She had been here for only three weeks, and it felt like years, all thanks to him. “You’ll lock me in our closet? Oh wait, you’ll punish me with your silence. Invite your mistress to your club but keep me locked up in this place.”
