Chapter 6 Miss Carolyn is a Super VIP Guest

  • Kayden quickly stepped in to mediate, "Carol, you should head home first. Don't keep Alice waiting. We can stay at a hotel, no problem."
  • Alice of the Burke family was notorious for being difficult to deal with. He didn't want Carolyn to cause a conflict with her on her first day back.
  • The butler showed a hint of disdain in his eyes. "Let's go, Miss Carolyn."
  • Carolyn put down her phone and said, "No need, we have our own car."
  • Behind the Mercedes, a luxurious extended vehicle appeared. The driver, dressed in a formal tailcoat, greeted them with respectful energy. "Miss Carolyn, I am the designated driver from the Nova Hotel. It's an honor to serve you."
  • "Alright. Dad, get in the car."
  • Without even glancing at the butler, John, Carolyn led her younger siblings into the luxury vehicle, her attitude showing a bit of defiance.
  • Kayden felt a little uneasy. "Carol, isn't this a bit too much?"
  • "It's fine," Carolyn replied calmly.
  • The Burke family looked down on her; she didn't see the need to humble herself just to go back.
  • The butler, John, was stunned. "Doesn't Nova Hotel have the Burke family blacklisted? They swore never to serve us again."
  • "That's correct," the driver replied, "but Miss Carolyn here is a special case. She's one of our VIP guests."
  • Impossible!
  • John could hardly believe it. Nova Hotel was the best hotel in Athacier, reserved only for the most esteemed guests, requiring membership for entry. Decades ago, the Burke family had a falling out with the hotel, leading to a permanent ban. Alice of the Burke family had been furious ever since.
  • Now, this young lady from the countryside was staying at the Nova Hotel, a direct insult to Alice.
  • As the luxury car drove away from the station, John wiped the sweat from his forehead. He hadn't brought the girl back, and Alice was sure to explode with anger. He regretted not being more polite earlier, assuming he could easily control the naive country girl.
  • Who would have expected her to have such backing?
  • John hurried back to the Burke family estate. Alice was playing chess in the grand hall, in a good mood, until she noticed the butler return without Carolyn. Her expression darkened.
  • "Where is that girl?"
  • John, trying to shift the blame, replied, "Madam Alice, she refused to come back and went to a hotel with the Murphy family."
  • "Hmph, just like her mother, with that same infuriating attitude. Does she think I'm going to harm my own granddaughter? Ridiculous," Alice scoffed.
  • Her eldest son's eight children had been kept hidden from her for 20 years. She had only recently learned that her granddaughter hadn't died but had been sent to the countryside.
  • Rumors had spread accusing her of being unfair and unkind, so she had personally ordered the girl to be brought back. Yet the girl showed no appreciation.
  • "Grandma, don't be angry," Helen, one of the other granddaughters, chimed in with a gentle smile. "Maybe she's just shy since she's coming from the countryside. Why don't I go to the hotel to fetch her, to show we care and prevent people from gossiping?"
  • "Which hotel is she staying at?" Helen asked curiously.
  • "Can they even afford a hotel? They came to Athacier by train. They're probably staying at some cheap guesthouse," Ruby, Helen's mother, sneered as she entered the room.
  • Alice's face darkened further. "Go get her. Staying in a guesthouse is disgraceful!"
  • Helen suppressed a smirk. It seemed that this ninth cousin of hers was already on Alice's bad side and posed no threat to her position in the family. She turned to the butler. "Uncle John, tell me where she's staying, and I'll bring her back."
  • John hesitated, looking embarrassed.
  • "It's fine, Uncle John. I'll go to the guest house," Helen coaxed.
  • "Miss Carolyn is staying at the Nova Hotel," John finally admitted.
  • The room went silent with shock.
  • "That's impossible," Helen muttered in disbelief. "How could she afford to stay there?"
  • The Burke family had never set foot in the Nova Hotel. Despite their silence about it in front of Alice, many secretly envied the prestige associated with that hotel, a symbol of wealth and status. Every major event, auction, or high-profile gathering took place there.
  • Alice gritted her teeth. "That brat is doing this just to spite me! Knowing full well I have a grudge with Nova Hotel. Helen, go bring her back now! If she doesn't come, she'll never step foot in this family's home again!"
  • Helen looked uneasy. She couldn't even enter the Nova Hotel.
  • ---
  • At the Nova Hotel, in the presidential suite.
  • Jaylee couldn't believe her eyes as she took in the luxurious surroundings. "Carol, how could you afford such an expensive hotel?"
  • "My brother gave me a card," Carolyn lied casually. She didn't want to reveal the truth. She had earned her wealth through missions over the years and was no longer poor.
  • Kayden, unaware of her real situation, didn't question her. "Carol, the Burke family is complicated. Alice has never liked me, so that's probably why she's treating you this way. Don't take it to heart. Your older brothers aren't back yet, but when they are, they'll stand up for you."
  • He suspected that the call had been entirely Alice's doing, without the knowledge of her sons.
  • Carolyn wasn't concerned about it. She nodded. "Let's just have dinner and rest."
  • Not long after, the phone in the suite rang. "Miss Carolyn, there's a Miss Helen downstairs asking to see you."
  • "Helen? Never heard of her."
  • Carolyn was about to hang up when Kayden quickly stopped her. "That's your second uncle's daughter, your cousin. Since the Burke family sent someone else, you should go down and meet her. After all, you are family, and there's no need to escalate things."
  • Reluctantly, Carolyn agreed.
  • When she went downstairs, she saw a stylish, well-dressed girl waiting at the entrance. She was probably her second uncle's daughter.
  • "Who are you?" Carolyn asked coolly.
  • Helen stared at her in shock. The girl in front of her, wearing just a simple white T-shirt, looked effortlessly elegant. Her fair skin seemed almost translucent, and her beauty was undeniable, with an aloof and distant aura.
  • This couldn't be the country girl they had been talking about, could it?
