Chapter 2 Carol Is Just Too Adorable
- Carolyn turned to him and said, "Dad, I think they're in the wrong room."
- Immediately, the hearts of all the men drop. Oh...is Carol angry now?
- "Carol, I need to apologize. I've kept a secret from you. The truth is, you're not really my daughter, and I'm also not qualified to be your dad. You're not Carolyn Murphy. Your real name is Carolyn Burke. Your real father is an extraordinary man, and they are your true family, they are your brothers."
- Her eyes widened in disbelief. Is this a dream? How can this be real? It feels like a storyline from a drama, where I am discovering after twenty years that I'm not his real daughter. Wasn't I Kayden's illegitimate child?
- "Carol, I'm your oldest brother, and I'm really sorry for the hardships you've faced all these years." Irwin reached out and tousled Carolyn's hair. "We had no choice but to send you away for your own safety. After our parents' deaths, you were the only sister we had left."
- The men looked on with guilt in their eyes. They had been too young to protect their sister and had to resort to such a harsh decision. The mood became noticeably heavy.
- Carolyn maintained a blank expression and said, "Are you done now? You've messed up my hairstyle."
- Irwin cleared his throat, reluctantly withdrawing his hand. Oh no, I got caught! She is truly my sister, so sharp and smart!
- The other seven men looked at Carolyn with longing eyes, like large dogs eager to wag their tails.
- She lowered her gaze. "I really don't like it when people touch my head."
- Immediately, the seven men focused their envious glares at Irwin, filled with jealousy and bitterness. How unfair! He had used such a lowly tactic to touch Carol's hair! They desperately wanted to stroke her soft, cuddly head as well. Aww, how frustrating!
- Being suddenly told she wasn't actually related to Kayden, and then having eight brothers appear out of nowhere was a lot for Carolyn to handle. With a stern face, she looked at the eight remarkable men, who were all carefully observing her, as if her slightest cough would be a major incident.
- A wave of awkwardness washed over her. Had I been too cold with them? They had explained that there was a reason for sending me away. She looked up and said softly, "If you really want to touch my head in the future, that's okay, but please don't mess up my hair."
- Pfft! The eight men all covered their noses as blood started to trickle out. Her cuteness was too much to handle! Carolyn's sweet and adorable nature was simply irresistible. She was so thoughtful! They realized they had been selfish, only wanting to touch her head and not thinking about her feelings. We clearly weren't doing a good job as brothers.
- The seven men in the room hurried out while holding their noses. They had to keep up their cool image in front of Carolyn and absolutely couldn't let her witness such a messy scene.
- Carolyn thought, I've already seen it! Why are you bleeding in front of me? Are you freaks or something?
- Kayden chuckled and said, "Ms. Carolyn, they've always cared deeply for you. Their guilt made them shy away from confronting you, so they could only gaze at your pictures and reminisce."
- With an expressionless face, she thought, Yep, they must really be weirdos.
- "Mr. Isaac and Mrs. Burke tragically passed away in a car accident while protecting you. Mr. Irwin and the others likely put all their feelings into you. They usually appear quite normal, so please don't hold any resentment toward them." Carolyn fell into silence when she realized the truth of it.
- …
- At this moment, far away in Walbury, Athacier.
- The party was lively, and the swimming pool was bustling with stunning women. A man dressed in a white shirt lay on a lounge chair, with a book resting on his face. He gave off an intellectual vibe, standing out starkly against the energetic party atmosphere.
- "Cyrus, Cyrus, I have good news and bad news. Which would you prefer to hear?"
- The man was stirred awake, and his brow furrowed. "You better have a legitimate reason for waking me." He loosened the top three buttons of his shirt, subtly exposing his collarbone. He removed the book from his face with his elegant fingers, revealing striking features and a calm gaze.
- "The good news is that your fiancée is returning, and her eight brothers from the Burke family are heading to Cochden to pick her up in person."
- "Is that supposed to be good news?" Cyrus barely opened his eyes, and with a quick kick, he sent the man tumbling into the water.
- "Don't get upset yet! I have even worse news to share!" Cyrus' gaze swept over and gave him another chance to speak.
- "The bad news is that it seems the Burke family has sent someone to find your grandpa, Mr. Kevin, claiming they want to break off the engagement! Hahaha, I'm sorry, but I can't stop laughing. Cyrus, with your looks and intelligence, how did you end up in a situation where you could be dumped?"
- Cyrus raised an eyebrow, finding it rather interesting.
