Chapter 3 Apologize to My Son

  • Breaking off the engagement? That works perfectly for me. I have no interest in this arranged marriage that was decided before I was even born. I was planning to find a way to end it anyway, so it's even better that they brought it up first. Now, that's good news in my book.
  • Cyrus tapped his book and asked, "Did Olliston Academy discover someone with S-class lineage?"
  • The man paddled over in the water while saying in a serious manner, "Yes, Professor Glanford personally went to Cochden, but it seems he was turned down. He even shamelessly sent her an invitation."
  • "It's not every day they find an S-class. It makes sense for the academy to be so enthusiastic."
  • Cyrus placed the book down and got up, stepping away from the noisy party.
  • ——
  • A private hospital in Cochden.
  • Since public hospitals were crowded and full of distractions, Carolyn was moved to the best private hospital in Cochden. The entire floor was secured for her use. The top floor was always monitored by bodyguards, and a specialized medical team was on hand. Even the hospital staff were unable to discover the identity of the patient, and they had no chance to meet her.
  • Inside the private room, the atmosphere was quite lively. Carolyn sat expressionless on the bed, her frail little body and sunken cheeks indicating a lack of nutrition.
  • "Carol, I had arranged for top-tier steak to be airlifted just for you. It's juicy and delicious. Why not give it a taste?"
  • "Carol, I had a top-notch doctor whip up some soup for you. Since you're still growing, steak isn't the most nutritious option."
  • "Carol, I got you some pancakes. The local cuisine here has its own distinct charm."
  • "Carol, I have a spicy noodle soup ready for you. Just try a spoonful to help kickstart your appetite."
  • ...
  • With a loud bang, the door opened wide. A man dressed in a floral shirt burst in, shouting, "Carol, I have arranged a magnificent feast for you! It's made by the renowned chef from Walbury, Athavier. His cooking is top-notch! I just brought him over on a private plane." When it comes to dining, Jasper is second to none. He's not a notorious playboy for nothing, instead, he's got real talent.
  • Carolyn noticed a middle-aged man in pajamas who had clearly been yanked out of bed at an odd hour, looking too annoyed to speak. Sighing internally, she thought, This is really over the top!
  • Carolyn was feeling a headache. She wasn't good at expressing her feelings, and with her eight brothers suddenly showing up, she didn't know how to react.
  • "Carol, I heard you've not been eating well. I made you some Daddy's recipe homemade pasta, the kind you used to enjoy. Oh, I shouldn't be saying I am your dad anymore," he said. The Burkes were present, I am no longer her dad. I should be calling myself "Mr. Kayden" from now on.
  • Carolyn noticed the bowl of simple homemade pasta and suddenly found her appetite returning.
  • "Wow, there's so much food here," Kayden said. He glanced at the table filled with exquisite dishes and felt slightly ashamed, realizing his homemade pasta didn't quite measure up.
  • "I'd like to have the homemade pasta," Carolyn finally said. As she sat before the bowl and began to eat slowly. It tasted really good.
  • The eight brothers stood in shock. With so many exquisite dishes available, it was unexpected for Carolyn to prefer a plain bowl of homemade pasta.
  • Kayden rubbed his head and said, "Mr. Irwin, it's not that Carol dislikes the food you brought. She just always asks for a bowl of pasta that I cook for her when she's sick." He hoped they would not overthink it.
  • Irwin waved his hand. "Your cooking is quite good. Carol was lucky to have you caring for her."
  • "I failed to take care of her properly. She got hurt." Kayden said.
  • Carolyn looked out at the sky and said, "I'd like to get some fresh air in the garden."
  • Irwin began rolling up his sleeves and said, "Since you can't move easily, I'll carry you out."
  • The other seven men simultaneously insisted, "I'll do it."
  • Jasper said, "I'm the youngest! This kind of physical task is clearly my responsibility!"
  • Carolyn responded coolly, "I refuse."
  • After ten minutes, Carolyn was wheeled out into the garden by Kayden. The area was quiet, everyone else had been clearly sent away.
  • "Ms. Carolyn, your brothers care about you. They just struggle to convey it."
  • Carolyn's mouth twitched. It was ridiculous how the eight adult men nearly fought over who would push her wheelchair. All she wanted was a moment of peace, and she didn't want them following her around. Their eager gazes felt as if she were taking eight large dogs out for a stroll without them.
  • "Wow, Kayden, hiding here like a turtle, huh? So you can actually pay for a private hospital? A crowd stormed in, with a middle-aged couple at the front. They gave off a knockoff vibe.
  • "Listen, Kayden, my son is still in the hospital. You better pay for his medical fees and the emotional damages! Your worthless daughter needs to apologize to him, giving three deep bows!" They said it arrogantly.
