Chapter 4 Eight Brothers Ready to Brawl
- Carolyn stared at the ridiculous bunch expressionless. Kayden held his posture firm, showing no signs of intimidation.
- The group was quickly incensed and charged at them, but a swarm of intimidating men in black stormed into the courtyard, encircling them tightly.
- "Let's see who's so brazen and ignorant to order Carol. Do they not fear consequences? Is their entire family prepared for destruction?" A man with a buzz cut appeared from the staircase, his arms covered in tattoos and a cross-shaped scar on his forehead, suggesting he was not someone to mess with.
- Behind him were several men who looked alike but had different auras. They were clearly men of wealth or power.
- The eight striking men stood in a line, they rolled up their sleeves and sneered, "I shall take care of this."
- The next moment, they all shot each other annoyed looks, saying in unison, "I was the first to say it. I'll take charge."
- "Irwin, you're getting too old for this. Let me handle it."
- "Spencer, your skills are terrible. Step aside, as I don't want to get blood on you."
- "Finley, remember who lost the last match? Don't act tough. I shall take the lead."
- They absolutely couldn't let this opportunity to showcase their prowess slip by. One moment they exude charisma, and the next, they transform into goofballs.
- Carolyn leaned against her forehead, feeling utterly at a loss.
- Initially, the intruders were cowed by the atmosphere, but upon seeing this, they quickly regained their confidence. "Hey, you guys are this brat's family and seem quite well-off. Since you're acting so high and mighty, pay up, or I'll ensure you won't see another day."
- The eight men abruptly ceased their argument and turned to glare at him. Their gaze was sharp, cold, commanding, it was terrifying indeed.
- Irwin chuckled, "It's been years since someone had the audacity to talk to me like that." He casually walked toward the middle-aged man, his gaze was intimidating.
- "Ah!" A scream pierced the air. No one could see how the attack occurred. The man covered his mouth, blood gushing out while his front teeth knocked out.
- "What are you doing? Are you planning to kill him? Help! Is there no justice anymore?" The middle-aged woman cried out as the men in black threw her out. She didn't stand a chance against them.
- Carolyn had anticipated this outcome.
- "These lowlifes," Irwin sneered. "I don't have the time to deal with them properly, and they've just walked into my territory. Just watch as I twist his head off and kick it around like a ball!" He dabbed his hands with a tissue, having got a bit of blood on his wrist earlier.
- "Irwin, remember that Carol is here. Let's refrain from such violent talk. We're respectable people who don't engage in illegal activities," Finley reminded him, he wanted to portray a good image for their sister.
- Irwin ran a hand over his buzz cut hair and gave Carolyn a forced smile. "Carol, I was just joking earlier. I merely wanted to have some small talk with them, I'll persuade them with kindness."
- Carolyn replied, "Oh." No matter how you slice it, you look like a gangster! Don't treat me like a toddler! Ugh, I'm so drained. But there are good sides, they look capable of settling this situation. I guess I don't need to worry about the Murphy family getting involved.
- Irwin turned his back, his demeanor shifting instantly to one of fury. His brows furrowed with anger. How dare they lay a finger on Carol? They must be having a death wish!
- "Finley, I'll check it out too."
- "I'm going as well." Both men in white shirts rose at the same time, their expressions icy and nearly indistinguishable.
- Finley rubbed his forehead and said, "Spencer, keep an eye on Bradley and Tristan. Don't let them start anything. We don't need a death in our hands." One is a doctor, and the other is a virologist. Can't they just chill for once?
- The man in the floral shirt moved closer to Carolyn. "Carol, don't worry. We are here. You'll never be alone again. The Burke family will always stand by you. If you happen to poke a hole in the sky, we'll help you patch it up. And you can poke a few more just for fun."
- Carolyn's expression softened. "Why are you so nice to me?"
- "Because you're our princess. We apologize for being such late knights in your life."
- Carolyn smiled softly. The sun broke through the clouds, casting a warm golden glow over them all.
- …
- Carolyn was discharged from the hospital in no time. On the day she left, the eight men gathered in her room, they were reluctant to leave her. "Carol, we have some urgent issues to deal with. We'll return in a few days to take you home. Just be patient and wait for us."
- "Goodbye," Carolyn said, feeling somewhat relieved. After experiencing their intense care for two days, she felt a little overwhelmed.
- The luxury vehicle brought Carolyn back to her home in an old neighborhood.
- When it showed up, it caused quite a stir. "Kayden, is your daughter really from a rich family? That car must be quite pricey!"
- "Looks like the Murphy family is really on the rise! Just don't forget about us!"
- Kayden felt awkward, puzzled as to how the entire neighborhood was aware of this. His wife, Jaylee, stepped out of the car with a satisfied grin. After years of enduring ridicule for having Carolyn as an unworthy daughter, she finally had the chance to put the gossiping neighbors in their place.
- Carolyn arrived home and noticed that everyone was now treating her with unexpected warmth. Her younger siblings no longer dared to mess with her.
- As she lay alone on her bed, it dawned on her that her previous identity as Zero had come to an end. The fact that someone was looking into her made her realize she should keep a low profile for a while or possibly switch to a new persona.
- The following day, the Murphy family got a call from the Burke family instructing Carolyn to head to Athacier, with a promise that they would arrange for someone to pick her up.
- Kayden was slightly bewildered. "This doesn't align with what they mentioned before. Should I call to confirm?" I recalled that they had promised to come and pick up Ms. Carolyn in person.
