• The cafeteria incident didn’t leave my mind for the rest of the day. No matter how hard I tried to focus on class, Madison’s words echoed in my head. Andre is spoken for. Like he was some kind of prize, something she could claim.
• But the thing that stuck with me more? Andre’s reaction. The cold sharpness in his voice when he told her to leave. The way his jaw clenched like he was holding something back. And then, of course, his last words to me: Because I do.
• I shook my head, trying to push the thought away. It was easier said than done.
