Chapter 5 Meeting My Ex Husband

  • "So what do I have to do?" I asked nobody in particular.
  • We were currently standing around a table. Tyler's plan had been strategically drawn out onto a sheet of paper and we were all hunched over it as he explained to us.
  • Suzy was more talkative here, that was one thing I definitely noticed.
  • She was free and expressed herself more. She was like a whole different person from the little sister I had. It was like when she had hidden all her secret life from me, she had also hidden a part of her personality.
  • I felt a bit sad that I didn't even really know my own sister like I thought I did. She had this whole double life going on and she had hidden it well.
  • "It feels weird even explaining this to you, Verity. Since you're usually the one with all the amazing plans and ideas." Tyler laughed, but he found that nobody else was laughing, so he quickly stopped. "Right. You're a tech girl, that's the plan."
  • "That's it?" Suzy asked with a raised brow. "You're not going to talk about how great of a planner you are."
  • Tyler scoffed before rolling his eyes at her.
  • "Verity, you're going to go in as a tech guru who's just looking to get hired. Say things to make him trust you enough to hire you into his company." Tyler explained.
  • I stared at him and nodded my head gently. I noticed Wayan staring at me and I gave him a small smile.
  • "You're good with sweet talk, even if you don't remember it. So I'm sure you're going to be fine," This time Reece said with a smirk.
  • I let out an awkward laugh. I didn't know what he was talking about but I managed.
  • "You got everything?" Wayan asked softly.
  • I gave him a firm nod and he smiled.
  • As I was getting ready to head out to the bar that this Alpha guy seemed to frequent, I felt Suzy's presence behind me. I turned around and came face to face with my sister.
  • "Uhm, Wayan told me what's up. I hope you're well," she said softly, filling the awkward tension between us.
  • I felt like they all acted this way around me since Wayan had brought me down here. I guess it was a bit weird to see someone who you know, suddenly not recognize you anymore, or have no memory of your existence.
  • I didn't even know how I was supposed to answer her question. How I was supposed to look her in the eye and pretend like this wasn't some weird trippy stuff? How was I supposed to act like I didn't know her before now?
  • I finally gave her a small nod after the long awkward silence passed between us. "Yes Suzy, I'm fine. Thank you for asking," I said, giving her a soft smile.
  • "Just be careful, okay? We don't want anything bad happening to our Verity." She chuckled.
  • The smile that left me this time was a genuine one. No matter what world or timeline I found myself in, Suzy was still my little sister. Even if she didn't know it, I still cared so much about her.
  • Wayan walked over to us with a serious look on his face. "You ready, Verity?" He asked
  • I nodded and released a small breath. "Yeah. Let's do this."
  • ***
  • As June, I was hopeless at the art of seduction. That was why I made up my mind that as Verity, I would use my attractive face and appeal to my advantage.
  • I looked at myself in the mirror once again, running my fingers through my fluffy red hair, then I straightened my clothes.
  • I let my loose blouse hang off my shoulders a bit, then unhooked a few of my buttons, showing off a little bit of my cleavage. I didn't bother messing with my pants, since they were already so tight on my *ss, I didn't need to worry about them.
  • I took a deep breath, promptly going over the mission in my head.
  • Gain the Alpha's trust enough to get hired into his company.
  • I took one last look in the mirror before heading out of the bathroom, towards the spellbinding music. I moved silently about the lounge area, letting my presence seize the elegant atmosphere.
  • I provided a lazy displacement with my posterior and swayed my hips confidently. The feeling was sensual as a few people regarded me; at once, I delivered a well-crafted sight, but I kept the small frown on my face hidden.
  • The establishment was high class; anyone with enough money, respect, and status could get in.
  • Still, a married woman like Verity walking through a lounge area filled with mostly perverted men was bound to draw unwanted attention. I didn’t desire any of it, though I appreciated the few gazes thrown my way, here and there.
  • I stopped at a bar stool that remained the furthest away from the small crowd huddling in the middle of the lounge. I caught the attention of the bartender and ordered a simple negroni before turning around to face the wide room.
  • I saw people of all kinds; men, women, and even teenagers alike. They conversed and danced together, sharing the intimacies that I had only once experienced one night in my last life. Back when I had been June and I had gotten married to Aaron.
  • The bartender came back with my drink, and I left him a hefty tip before walking away to take a seat at the farthest corner of the wide room. I took a sip of my drink, loving the warm smooth taste as it slid down my throat.
  • I sidestepped about the edges of the room, trying my best to stay discrete. I continued taking sips of my drink while eyeing people around me, hoping to spot his target soon.
  • Whoever this Alpha guy was, he was surely taking his sweet time to get here.
  • The tiny earpiece device in my ear suddenly beeped and Tyler's voice filtered in through.
  • "We've got CCTV camera footage of him just around the block. He should be stepping into the lounge in a few minutes." The voice sounded clear like Tyler was right behind me speaking.
  • I couldn't help but be impressed at the advanced technology that the PIA possessed. It was all so amazing.
  • But a reminder of the current mission I was on put a damp in my mood. In a few minutes, I was about to come face to face with an otherworldly creature that I hadn't even known existed until a few hours ago.
  • It was a dangerous job that Verity Adams and her husband did. But they had to do anything in their power to protect human society.
  • "Keep your eyes peeled, Verity. He's going to be stepping in, in a couple of seconds. You can't miss him, he's tall with brown hair, and he's wearing a navy blue suit." Tyler's voice rang out.
  • I nodded, forgetting that he couldn't see me. I kept my eyes glued to the door, waiting for the Grey pack Alpha to walk into the room and get this mission over with.
  • I had some more investigation to do after this, I had to dig in deep on how involved Suzy was in this whole PIA thing. I also had to find out if the loan sharks were truly the reason for her death and how I could save her…
  • Even with all the thoughts running through my mind, I still had my eyes glued to the entrance of the lounge.
  • But nothing could have ever prepared me for the shock that hit me immediately when the door opened and a familiar figure walked in.
  • I blinked my eyes rapidly to make sure I wasn't dreaming, to make sure it wasn't some sick joke my brain was playing on me, but it wasn't.
  • This was real.
  • Standing at the entrance of the room, exchanging pleasantries with one of the workers, was Aaron Hendrix, my ex-husband in my past life.
  • His brown locks curved down his face in a s*xy manner that brought out his strong jawline. The navy blue suit he wore hugged his figure and did nothing to hide the bulging muscles in his biceps.
  • I should hate this man. I should despise him and want him dead for what he did to me and my family. It was his fault I had lost my sister to loan sharks. It was his fault I died from that horrible surgery.
  • He had abandoned me and my poor family when we needed him the most. When I needed him the most. When I had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and the doctors had broken the news of my impending doom to me, this man had left me to suffer alone and eventually die.
  • I should hate him. I should want him dead.
  • But I didn't.
  • I couldn't control the feeling of desire that washed over my entire body as I stared at Aaron from the corner of the room. He was so goddamn irresistible. He was still as hot as I remembered him from June's timeline.
  • As I struggled to get my body under control, I heard the clear voice of Tyler ring out from the small earpiece in my ear.
  • "There he is, Verity. That's our Alpha, Aaron Hendrix."
