Chapter 2 Ruined Party

  • Elaine stood gobsmacked as she stared at Jason who had no expression on his face.
  • Her whole world was coming to an end and he did nothing about it. Rather, he served her divorce papers. That was the last thing on her mind.
  • "Why are you doing this?" She asked bitterly. Jason only smirked and walked out. His lawyer knew what to do.
  • She watched him do that. It pained her that her husband no longer loves her and wants to do away with her.
  • "I have a pen just in case you need one," Hans said. "Please, just sign the papers and save me the stress of having to disturb you. I'm sure you're a busy woman and wouldn't want that."
  • 'Come on tears, just fall down and make me feel bad.' She pleaded with her body but even her body had abandoned her.
  • She didn't need to give it much thought. He wanted a divorce and he was going to get it.
  • She grabbed the pen from him and signed the papers without hesitating. She was letting him go because he had already given up on her. He wasted seven years of her life, giving her false hopes every day.
  • She handed the papers back to the lawyer, grabbed her bag, and walked out on him. That was the tears flowed. She wiped them off. She wasn't going to let that slide. She was going to get her revenge, which she promised herself.
  • She went back to the house in her car to pick up her clothes. She met Jason there hanging up on a call. She didn't speak a word to him. Rather, she went to the wardrobe and started packing her bags.
  • "You are not to take whatsoever I have bought for you and that includes jewelry, cars, shoes, and clothes." He blurted and she obeyed. She took everything she had brought with her before she got married, dropped the car keys, removed the pieces of jewelry and rings on her fingers, removed the shoes on her legs, and dragged her bag outside.
  • She didn't cry. She was going to be strong. Strong enough to take her revenge on the people who added to her misery, especially her ex-husband. She promised herself she was going to deal with him and that in the end, he will come back crawling on his knees.
  • "That's a promise." She said, determined.
  • ***
  • Camera lights came from every corner as affluent men and women walked down the red carpet. The paparazzi would have swarmed around them if not for the guards that stopped them and pushed some of them back.
  • "I don't know why an assistant had to come to a gathering like this." Elaine grouched.
  • Her boss had forced her to come to the gathering; she blackmailed her with her position. Her boss held the highest position in the gynecology ward and Elaine was supposed to be the next in charge as her best assistant. But she threatened to give the position to another if she didn't come to the party.
  • "Such a petty thing!" She scoffed as she walked out of the car after her boss and her husband had alighted the car.
  • She stepped out of the red carpet, allowing them to take beautiful photos. When they were done posing, they headed for the door and she rushed to them.
  • "Mister Reed!" The crowd shouted just as she was about to enter inside. She turned to see her ex-husband holding hands with Claire, his new wife. The wounds which were still trying to close reopened the moment she saw the both of them together and smiling. He had moved on without her and there she was, unmarried, broke, and still struggling to get a notable position. She was as good as a nobody there. He left her with nothing and he froze her accounts. It was the worst time of her life.
  • "Elaine!" Her boss called out harshly and her trance was interrupted. She quickly realized she was staring and went to her boss.
  • This night would determine her future and she wasn't ready to waste it.
  • "I'm so sorry, ma'am." She bowed slightly.
  • "Keep your head in the game or else, I will fire you." The lady said scornfully and later smiled when she turned to her husband. The trio walked inside the large hall filled with clothed seats and tables. There was a lounge just by the right hand side of the hall and most of the people hung out there. Elaine looked back and saw her ex and her former friend walk into the hall. She quickly faced her front as she didn't want any of them to see her. But too bad for her, Jason had seen her.
  • "Elaine? What is she doing here?" He asked inaudibly.
  • "Go to the lounge and stay there. Always look at me because I might need something. If you don't respond quickly, you're fired." Her boss said sternly and Elaine nodded. She went to the lounge as told and sat there. Claire noticed her husband was staring at something but when she traced his eyes, she saw nothing interesting.
  • "Are you okay, honey? What are you looking at?" She asked him.
  • "Nothing, dear." He smiled and they went for a table.
  • Elaine noticed she was the only underdressed person there but she didn't care. It was the best she had and she was content.
  • "Elaine?!" She heard from behind her and she turned abruptly. She recognized the lady to be one of Claire's friends, Gina, and totally ignored her. She didn't want to come in contact with any of them.
  • "I'm talking to you, you nitwit." She cursed but Elaine just snubbed her. She didn't want to lose her cool; losing her cool meant losing her job too and she couldn't afford that.
  • "I wonder where you get such pride from. You're infertile and your husband left you for your friend. Why are you feeling like you're on top of the world?"
  • Without Jason, she was a prey in the lion's den. She was respected and feared as his wife but as a nobody to him, she was just filth; someone that could be trashed about and she hated herself for that.
  • She stood up and walked over to the buffet table.
  • Gina went to her friend and whispered something in her ear.
  • "Excuse me, dear." She smiled at Jason before leaving with her friend.
  • They both walked to the table where Elaine was picking out the food she'd eat.
  • "So, you're the one my husband was staring at." She crossed her hands beneath her breast.
  • "Jealous, much," Elaine smirked as she picked some spicy chicken into her plate.
  • Claire was visibly filled with jealousy from the way she looked at Elaine. Elaine had always been the one with the nicest shape and the prettiest face. Even though she was underdressed, she still looked hot. Her hips were wide and trousers brought out every angle. Elaine was heavily endowed.
  • "Are you just going to stand there and look at stare, or are you going to say something and leave my presence?" Elaine spat without having to look at any of them. She enjoyed what she was doing to Claire with her body but she didn't want it to exceed that.
  • "I wonder how many men have touched that smelly arse of yours. I bet you even use butt enlargers because trust me, my dear, this all looks fake." Claire said in bitterness.
  • Elaine ignored her. After picking up her food, she turned to leave.
  • "Excuse me." She smiled and opted to leave but was cornered.
  • "Don't you want to enjoy your evening with your husband, Claire? Or are you feeling threatened because I'm here? If not, run along now to your darling husband." She smirked.
  • Claire angrily grabbed a bowl of punch and littered its content on her face. Elaine gasped at the coldness of the liquid. That was it.
  • She pouted her spicy food on Claire's face and she screamed. The sauce had entered her eyes. Her cries attracted the security, Jason, and other people.
  • The security men, without waiting to hear both sides of the story, grabbed Elaine by the wrist and pulled her out of the hall.
  • "Don't you dare touch me!" She yelled. "She started it. You're not going to drag her out too?"
  • She felt they were being impartial just because she didn't fit in.
  • "Better keep quiet because we are calling the police." One of them said and moved a little bit away from them.
  • Elaine ran her fingers through her blonde hair in frustration. This was not what she was expecting.
  • She saw an angry-looking Jason charging toward her.
  • "You came here to cause trouble. Haven't you caused enough?" He yelled at her.
  • "You have no right to yell at me, Jason. Keep your voice and yell at your wife for being so jealous and bitter."
  • "Now, apologize." He placed one hand in his pocket.
  • "What makes you think I'll do that?" She scoffed.
  • "That's the only way you won't go to prison. You violated someone and there's a huge penalty for that unless you have some connections and knowing you, you have nobody."
  • Hearing those words from him broke her heart over and over again. This is someone who once proclaimed eternal love to her.
  • If her boss was to find out what happened, she would get fired. But if she apologizes, she would be free and everything will go back to normal.
  • What was she going to do?
