Chapter 176 Sponsorship

  • In the meantime, at the Lewis residence Zion was in the study room with Mr Lewis, he was looking at the outstanding young man in front of him. He smiled at him and said, “I’m sure your parents are so proud of you. You have achieved a lot at such a young age.” Zion smiled back at him and replied, “Uncle Patrick, when I was five years old my mother found that my father was having an affair with her Secretary, and they have a four year old son together. She divorced him and left me with my paternal grandmother. My grandfather was the founder of the Bennet Group, when he passed away he left the company to my father. My grandmother was a housewife, she was depending on my father to take care of her. However, from that day they got divorced my parents forgot about us. My grandmother used to wake up early in the morning to buy fruit and vegetables from the market. She set up a stall at the busiest street near our home. She managed to enroll me to the most prestigious Primary school even though the tuition fee was too steep.
  • I was in the same school and same class with my younger brother. I used to see my father dropping him off at the school gate and pick him up after school. I remember one day I walked to them smiling and greeted them, but they just ignored me. I think they were embarrassed to be seen with me since I was wearing big clothes. My school uniform was grey shorts and white shirt, my shorts had been washed for full two years until it faded. My grandmother bought me bigger sizes to cater for the following years. Even though we were poor we didn’t sleep without food. We stopped eating starch because we couldn’t afford to buy them. We ate meat once a month.
  • When I was doing Grade 3, the teacher asked us to bring Tennis gear. On Saturday morning, I decided to visit my father’s house to ask him to buy the Tennis gear for me. On that day it was very cold and drizzling but I braved the cold and went to my father’s mansion. I pressed the intercom I heard my stepmother’s voice asking me what do I want. I told her that I was looking for my father. I thought she was going to open the gate, but it was my wishful thinking. I stood by the gate for two hours. At that time, it was raining hard, and it was windy. The umbrella was weak against the wind, I was wet from my head to my toes. When I saw my father coming I was so happy I felt that two hours of rain was worth it.
