Chapter 31

• On Thursday morning, Ashley woke up at six o’clock, took a cab to Columbus Circle, and took the D train to Yankee Stadium. It should have been an easy walk to Logan’s apartment since Google Maps had told her it only took ten minutes, but climbing the stairs to the street was more confusing than she had expected. Even with the stadium looming behind her as a giant landmark, her failed sense of direction wasn’t helping her figure out which way to walk to reach her destination. She refused to use her phone’s navigation like a tourist.
• Shoving her hands in her pockets, she made a decision at random and began walking. It was a busy area with a McDonald’s on one corner and several shops along the stretch of the road, but the facades and signs changed abruptly as soon as she crossed the Grand Concourse.
