Chapter 31

• Two weeks pass.
• Two weeks pass and David doesn’t return to Mikaela’s room. Two weeks pass and she practices without complaint, without making demands, without pouting in that way that makes him melt. She plays to perfection, just like he asked. Yet, even though she plays as flawlessly as ever, something is missing; fervor, or that ethereal quality of her music that always makes him burn for more. Maybe that’s only in his head though.
• Then Friday arrives. Friday, the day before Saturday. Saturday, the day it will happen.
