Chapter 13

  • Jonathan raised his head from the book he’d been reading when he heard a distant knock at his door, stopping for a moment, wondering if he had imagined it.
  • The house was empty and silent, too quiet and different from its usual movement when Kimberly was home.
  • His daughter had left to spend summer with her mother - like every year - and was very excited to travel with her to Paris. He usually had her through the year, with winter holidays being the only time his daughter traveled between houses to spend Chanukah with Jonathan and his parents, Christmas with her mother, and New Year’s with whoever she felt like before school was back on track. His little girl had grown so fast and was already going to college.
