Chapter 40 Everyone Loves Dessert

• An array of thoughts flood my mind as I look over at the clock on the dashboard, 7:22 stares back at me in bold white numbers. I take in a deep breath and try to calm my nerves. The truth is I’ve been plagued with anxiety since Kelsey agreed to have dinner with me. After everything that happened today, I just want to spend some time with her before I regret taking these moments for granted again. She’s a live wire, her presence is so bright and playful. It’s like an addiction just to be near her. As I pull up in front of her parents’ house, memories of this place replay in my mind. I laugh to myself when I remember all the times I would wait out here, in this spot none the less for Kelsey to sneak out through her bedroom window, although I’m pretty sure that they had an inkling what was going on.
• I contemplate walking up to the door and ringing the doorbell like a gentleman but I’m beat to the punch when I see the front door swing open. My pulse picks up speed and my breathing hitches when I see Kelsey descend down the stairs of her parents’ porch. She gives me a small smile and I feel like I’ve melted into a puddle of need. She looks flawless as she approaches my car, she’s wearing a forest green satin dress that drapes down just low enough to leave room for imagination. The thin straps brush the top of her shoulders while her back remains exposed. I swallow hard at the way her hair bounces, the front pinned back and emphasizing her face. This girl has me wrapped around her pinky finger and I don’t think she even realizes it. There’s a pulsing desire to be near her, to take her, to make her mine.
