Chapter 2 Who Are You Looking For?

  • Chloe's POV
  • I had never seen my father so angry and disappointed. His powerful Alpha presence was so overwhelming that I could barely breathe. His resolute decision to expel me made me instinctively shrink back.
  • Without a word, I stood up silently and headed upstairs to pack my things.
  • As soon as I reached the foyer on the second floor, Cassandra blocked my way, crossing her arms. "Just get out! You're nothing but an eyesore in this house. There will never be a place for you here."
  • I clenched my fists and glared at her smug face.
  • "Want to hit me? Go ahead!" Cassandra turned her face to the side, daring me with a challenge.
  • "What a joke. You, a woman without a wolf, think you can teach me, a Beta, a lesson?" she laughed loudly at me.
  • I shut my eyes while gripping my fists tightly, enduring as much as I could until I couldn't take it anymore.
  • Since I was already expelled, I would be a rogue from now on, no longer bound by pack rules.
  • Smack! I slapped her face hard, without any hesitation.
  • I knew Cassandra wasn't yet eighteen and couldn't fully control her wolf. Even though she was a Beta, I wasn't afraid of her at all.
  • "Ah! You hit me … Dad, Mom, Chloe hit me!" Cassandra screamed in pain and hurried downstairs.
  • I looked down to see Jennifer holding Cassandra, her face twisted in rage as she shouted, "Chloe, how dare you hit my daughter! I'll rip your throat out!"
  • Jennifer shifted into a fierce black wolf, baring her teeth and ready to pounce.
  • My father intervened. As my Alpha, he wouldn't let anyone harm me in his presence.
  • "Dad, it hurts so much … " Cassandra ran back to my father, deliberately gasping and sobbing.
  • "Chloe, I order you to get out of this house right now!" My father's fury was ignited by Cassandra's performance.
  • I froze, not even bothering to pack my things. I grabbed my passport and went downstairs. Watching my father cradle Cassandra like a precious baby, my heart felt utterly crushed.
  • He didn't ask about what I went through last night but only listened to Cassandra's side of the story. It was clear where I stood in his eyes.
  • Of course, my lack of a wolf made him look bad as an Alpha. How could I, the wolf-less eldest daughter, possibly be a suitable heir for the pack?
  • With my mother gone, and my father bringing his mistress and her daughter into the house, Jennifer became the pack's Luna. In this household, I was reduced to an unrespected outsider.
  • My poor mother had been completely unaware of my father's betrayal in their marriage.
  • Even though they were once considered fated mates by the Moon Goddess, I began to doubt if our werewolf partners were any different from human partners—loyalty and infidelity seem to exist on both sides.
  • Perhaps we had long been mimicking their worldview, including aspects like money, trade, and lifestyle.
  • Since werewolves integrated fully with human society, our morals and habits had hardly differed from theirs.
  • I had noticed more and more werewolves betraying their mates, driven by their beastly nature and strong desires, just like my father.
  • Now, even being expelled from the pack and becoming a rogue didn't bother me.
  • Two soldiers tossed me out the front door, and I turned around to cast a cold, indifferent glance behind me.
  • At a window on the second floor, Cassandra was watching me with a malicious smile spreading across her face.
  • I knew she must be gloating.
  • For someone like me, a wolfless werewolf, being expelled from the pack meant survival was uncertain.
  • Cassandra would undoubtedly take over the Alpha position in Thunder Pack and claim all the resources that came with it.
  • I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms, and vowed that if I ever got the chance to come back, I would make Shania and Cassandra pay for their treachery!
  • ……
  • On the day I was cast out of the pack, I thought my fate as a rogue would be to die in desperation at the hands of witches or other ruthless predators.
  • Fortunately, I met a benefactor who changed my life. With his help, I had lived in Sableland Meadowmere for five years.
  • My wolf had awakened, and I now had a lovely son and a successful career.
  • My life couldn't have been happier.
  • Just as I was immersed in designing a new project, the doorbell rang.
  • Annoyed, I got up and opened the door to find two sharply dressed men standing outside.
  • "Who are you looking for?" I asked, frowning and automatically switching to a foreign language.
  • "Are you Ms. Chloe?" one of the men responded in English.
  • "Yes, I am. And you are?"
  • "We've been sent to find you. Your Beta mother, Eugenia, was a lifesaver for our leader. Mrs. Evans would like to meet you."
  • I was puzzled. "Who is Mrs. Evans?"
  • "The matriarch of the Evans family," the leading man said respectfully.
  • Mrs. Evans?
  • I repeated the name silently in my mind, then it suddenly hit me.
  • Wanda Evans, the matriarch of the most powerful family in the werewolf society of North Ultaria, was the grandmother of the man my mother had saved years ago.
  • And that man—Vincent Evans—was the current Alpha King!
