Chapter 4 Teach the Mean Woman a Lesson

  • Sandra took a deep breath, restored her composure, and smiled at the people around her, saying, "Let's hurry."
  • With that, she took the lead toward the VIP room. Others thought that this little incident had passed without much significance. However, Sandra exchanged a few words with other collaborators and excused herself to the restroom when Declan was focused on distributing materials.
  • She left the room and headed to the entrance of the lounge like she owned the building. Just as she was about to push the door open, she suddenly heard voices inside. Immediately, she stopped and pressed her ear against the door.
  • In the lounge, a young boy sat upright on the couch, hugging a backpack almost half his size. Next to him sat a young assistant named Josh Walden, asking him questions with great curiosity.
  • "What's your name, young sir?"
  • "River," the young boy answered in a childish voice.
  • Josh showed a kind smile. "River Jardel, is that your name? It's a good name."
  • River frowned, looked at him, and said solemnly, "I'm not a Jardel. Just call me River."
  • Josh was surprised. "Didn't you say Mr. Jardel is your father? Shouldn't you take his last name?"
  • River maintained his composure and said childishly, "Mommy said there's no rule where I have to take Daddy's last name."
  • "Well…" Josh didn't know how to reply. After all, that was the case, and they were no longer in feudal society.
  • He scratched his head, becoming even more curious. "So, do you have your mother's last name? What's your last name? Why would you come here by yourself? Where is your mother?"
  • In response to Josh's series of questions, River wrinkled his nose in disdain, refusing to answer and instead asking, "When is Daddy coming?"
  • Josh was left speechless. Well, that's young sir for you, alright. He's just as difficult as Mr. Jardel.
  • The conversation was loud and clear to Sandra, who was on the other end of the door, and she became increasingly certain that this boy was of unknown origins when his mother dared not give this child the surname of Jardel.
  • Lance definitely has no idea of his existence!
  • Knowing his cold and indifferent nature, as long as they quickly got rid of this b*stard and claimed that someone was trying to tarnish his reputation, he wouldn't care. But ultimately, Lance must never see the child's appearance!
  • Concealing the chill in her eyes, she put on a friendly smile and pushed the door open. "Josh, why don't you get the child some drinks?"
  • As she often frequented Jardel Enterprises, Josh took it in stride and didn't think too much about it. He stood up, nodded politely to Sandra, and then hesitated as he looked at River. "Uh, Mr. Jardel only has coffee here…"
  • He had wanted to ask if the child could have water, but Sandra interrupted, saying, "No worries. There's a shop that sells freshly squeezed juice downstairs. I happen to want some, too. Could you run down and get it? I'll be here. You don't have to worry about anything."
  • Josh had no inkling of what this woman had in mind. Without a trace of suspicion, he left the room, leaving only a woman and a child inside.
  • Sandra deepened her smile and said to River, "Your name is River, right? Do you want to see your dad soon? I know where he is. Shall I take you to see him now?"
  • River remained unmoved, silently staring at her for two seconds. His big, raven-black eyes gave Sandra an inkling of being seen through. But she immediately dismissed the thought—what could a toddler know?!
  • Just then, the boy spoke up, "Madam, are you very familiar with Daddy?"
  • The veins on Sandra's temples throbbed again, and her mouth twitched. She suppressed her anger, forcing a smile. "No need to be so formal. I'm Sandra Milligan. You can call me Miss Sandra."
  • Upon hearing her self-introduction, River blinked a couple of times, then suddenly stood up with his backpack.
  • Thinking that he finally agreed to go with her to find Lance, Sandra stood up with joy, too, extending her hand toward him. "Come, I'll take you—"
  • However, River pursed his lips and said, "My stomach hurts. I need to use the bathroom."
  • With that, he dashed into the restroom and slammed the door shut with a bang, leaving Sandra stranded in place, speechless and seething with rage.
  • Just then, River's voice rang out from the other side of the door. "You promised to take me to my Daddy. You're not allowed to leave on your own! I'll be done in a moment!"
  • Sandra breathed a sigh of relief and checked the time, estimating it would take about ten more minutes for Lance to arrive. The shop Josh had gone to was crowded, and there would be some waiting in line. She couldn't help but reveal a slightly malicious smile.
  • As long as I take this b*stard away and lock him up, whatever I say later will be final! Those guys only took a few glances at this kid. Even if I insist this b*stard has nothing to do with Mr. Jardel, they have no proof to refute my claim! Also, I have to quickly find his mother and eliminate this threat thoroughly to avoid any future problems.
  • After devising her plan, Sandra took out her phone and dialed a number.
  • Little did she know that River was sitting on the toilet right then, pulling out a palm-sized laptop from his backpack.
  • A sly glint flickered in his eyes as he snorted softly. So, this mean woman is from the Milligan Family, huh? Mommy's right; every member of the domestic Milligan Family is horrible! She wants to kidnap River, eh? Well, time to teach her a lesson!
  • River tapped the keyboard lightly but skillfully, his jet-black eyes shining with a wisdom beyond his age.
  • In no time, he hacked into the building's security system, made a few adjustments to the settings, pressed Enter, and quickly closed the laptop. He then went through the motions of flushing the toilet.
  • Sandra waited for a while, but there was no sign of anyone coming out. Getting impatient as time was running out, she heard the sound of flushing and hurried toward the bathroom. However, just then, a piercing alarm went off, startling her!
  • Before she could figure out what was happening, the overhead fire sprinkler system suddenly activated with a whoosh, drenching her instantly like a drowned rat.
  • Sandra was completely dumbfounded. Grabbing her purse, she screamed and ran to the bathroom door, pounding on it forcefully. "Let me in to take cover!"
  • The security facilities in Jardel Tower were extremely thorough, with fire sprinklers arranged strategically on the ceiling. To avoid the water, she would have to run through most of the room to get outside, or she could enter the bathroom. Sandra had no intention of running out in such a miserable state to become a laughingstock.
  • However, after knocking for a while, all she heard from inside was the childish voice saying, "I'm not done yet, madam. Hold on."
  • "Need you, a brat, fuss over so much? Let me in first!" Sandra pounded on the door in frustration. But River paid no attention to her, ignoring her no matter how hard she knocked.
