Chapter 2 He Looks Like a Trafficker
- Yvette hesitated for a moment, then quickly put on large sunglasses and lowered her duckbill cap.
- Five years ago, she had slept with that b*stard and then hit the road. She had never thought of having any connection with him again.
- After a moment of composure, Yvette relaxed and walked over.
- He couldn't possibly have seen her face at any point that night, and now half of her face was shielded behind the large sunglasses too. She should have nothing to fear.
- "Where are your parents?" Lance squatted in front of the two little ones, asking in a gentle tone, unable to resist reaching out a large hand to touch the girls' heads.
- Yvette quickly and decisively grabbed his wrist and pushed it aside.
- "What are you doing? Don't touch my children!" She spoke in Montese, intentionally deepening her voice, and her tone was full of vigilance.
- Lance was momentarily stunned, furrowing his brows slightly, about to say something, but Yvette had already pulled the two kids close to her, scolding them in Montese, "How many times have I told you not to casually talk to strangers? Who knows what his intentions are?!"
- Stella Milligan blinked a couple of times and also switched to Montese. "Huh? Have you said that before, Mommy? Also, you…"
- Mommy's voice is so weird, and haven't we agreed to speak Citrinic after returning to the country?
- But Crystal Milligan quickly tugged on her, gently and softly speaking in Montese, "Got it, Mommy. We'll be more careful next time."
- Proficient in Montese, Lance understood the conversation between the mother and daughters very clearly, and his brow furrowed even more tightly.
- Usually, he didn't have the time to meddle in other people's affairs. It was only because the two kids were adorable that he kindly offered some help. However, not only did this woman not appreciate it, but she also treated him like a bad person! Did he even look like a trafficker?!
- Before he could say anything, Yvette had already picked up her suitcase and turned away, leading the two girls.
- Lance, not only misunderstood by the woman but also ignored, felt beyond infuriated. He almost went after her to argue when one of the girls turned around, smiled sweetly at him, blinked her big, round eyes, and mouthed goodbye before returning to her mother.
- His anger was instantly extinguished, and he shook his head helplessly.
- How could there be such an unreasonable mother with such a well-behaved and polite child? If only they were mine…
- The inchoate thought stunned him, and a sense of bitterness crept in. The heir of the Jardel Family, unable to conceive—if the world found out, they would probably burst into laughter. But it wasn't a physical issue; it was his unique genetic makeup, with a matching probability of only one in a billion.
- In other words, out of over a billion women, only one could conceive his child.
- Because it wasn't a physical problem, there was no cure. If he hadn't accidentally discovered this two years ago, he wouldn't have given up searching for that woman.
- His phone vibrated, and Lance let out a slow breath, pulling his thoughts back and answering the call.
- Declan's voice came through, "The collaborators have arrived, sir, and are waiting for you in the VIP room."
- "Got it." Lance's tone had returned to its usual cold indifference. "Distribute the documents first. I'll be there shortly."
- …
- It wasn't until she left the airport gate and looked back, confirming Lance was long out of sight, that Yvette finally breathed a sigh of relief.
- She took out her phone and dialed a number.
- After several rings, the call finally connected, and Yvette immediately exploded. "River Milligan, where are you? How dare you turn off your phone and block your location?! Do you know how worried I've been these past few days? How dare you, at your age, take an international flight on your own?!"
- Most frustratingly, this kid took the fight using a ticket generated by hacking the airline's system. If Yvette wasn't a master hacker herself, she probably wouldn't have figured out where this kid went.
- A sweet and childish voice came from the other end of the line, but the tone was calm and composed, like a little adult. "Mommy ate two Big Macs before boarding the plane and sounds energetic… Yes, you must have caught up on sleep on the plane."
- She choked for a moment and then turned to glare at her two girls. Did I just get sold out by my own daughters as soon as we landed?!
- Lo and behold, the two little ones, pretending to be innocent, covered their communication wristwatches and turned their heads to look at the plane in the sky while discreetly observing her expression. Whenever she looked their way, they quickly averted their gazes.
- Yvette covered her face. How did I end up with such clever kids?
- Taking a deep breath, she asked, "Where are you? I'll come pick you up now."
- "I'm with Daddy," River replied composedly.
- "What?!" Yvette instantly exploded again. She turned to look at the airport gate, then immediately came to herself. "Wait, what 'Daddy?'"
- She hadn't revealed any information about their biological father to these kids. River hasn't been kidnapped, has he?!
- The thought made her anxious again.
- Despite her boy's extraordinary intelligence, he was still just a little over four years old.
- Since he left home, no matter how much she tried to stay calm and reassure herself that with River and her abilities, they would surely reunite safely. Alas, deep down, she was still terribly worried.
- She was just about to quickly remind her son to stay safe until she rescued him when River's voice came through the phone again. "I found matching data in the genetic database. Daddy is from the Jardel Family, right?"
- Yvette was speechless. I have underestimated this kid.
- "I'm at Jardel Enterprises. Mommy, don't worry; the security here is pretty good." The little one reassured her with a serious tone.
- Once again, Yvette was rendered speechless. Why did I teach him counter-surveillance and penetration skills in the first place? Now, look at this!
- "Don't worry, Mommy," River continued. "I just wanted to see what Daddy looks like. If you don't want to meet him, I won't say anything."
- "Uh…" Yvette was feeling a myriad of emotions. Just whose scheming nature did this kid take after?
- Among the triplets, River was the only one who looked exactly like his father. Now that he had run off to Jardel Enterprises, his connection with Lance would likely be exposed soon. But even if she had to face the Jardels, she had nothing to fear. If Lance dared to try to take her children away from her, he would have to think twice about it.
- She expelled a sigh, prepared herself, and was about to advise River when he suddenly lowered his voice and said, "Someone is coming. I'll call you back."
- Before she could say anything, the call was already disconnected.
- Yvette looked speechlessly at the sky, letting out a heavy sigh.
- Her return to the country this time was originally intended to settle scores with the Milligan Family and reclaim what rightfully belonged to her. But now, finding River was the top priority, and even the most important matters had to be put on hold.
- Just then, a tiny hand tugged at her clothes. "Mommy, has River found Daddy?"
- Another tiny hand joined in. "Mommy, will we also get to meet Daddy?"
- Yvette lowered her head, and her heart ached a little, meeting two pairs of big, watery eyes.
