Chapter 8 Dangerous Secret
- Jax's PoV
- I can't believe what this girl is doing. Does she realize that what she's doing is very dangerous? Apart from violating the professional code of ethics, it's also inappropriate for Ivanna to do this because she is engaged; there will be an uproar if Damon finds out about this incident.
- I have to maintain my presence in this place because there is one business that I haven't finished yet. Two things, one of which is to protect Ivanna. And that is very important, considering that one and the other are interrelated. I can't go into details because I'm trying to find out and prove my suspicions.
- The desire inside me that had been stirring, as well as the pain I was feeling, magically faded away along with the warm kiss Ivanna gave me. It wasn't the first time for me, but I knew I would remember this better than any other experience I had ever had.
- For a while, I had been trying to restrain myself from remaining professional even though the scent of Ivanna's body and her beauty had bewitched me.
- Maybe it wasn't just me who felt that way; Damon probably felt the same way too. That's why he agreed to become Ivanna's fiancé. Damon is a very lucky man. However, whether my and Ivanna's suspicions were true or not—about Damon having sex with a mysterious woman every night—the man had wasted what he had.
- I tried to distance myself from the girl, letting go of her peck without intending to embarrass her for doing the right thing. No! It would not be very honest to say I didn't want her. I just had to be professional somehow.
- "I'm sorry, Miss. This is dangerous. You could put me in violation of the code of conduct if you continue," I said, getting up and helping her to sit properly. I sat opposite her, looking at her beautiful face for a while. "Go back to your room. I'm fine."
- The girl's face looked flushed. She was probably embarrassed and regretting what she had just done. However, I wouldn't blame her. It could be that she wanted to help me or trick me into not hurting her. Because what I felt a few minutes ago was just like an addiction. I crave something, and I don't get it, so I feel pain all over my body.
- Until now, the aches and pains are still there. However, I don't want to make this girl worry about me too much.
- "You're pale, Jax. And I heard you seem to be in a lot of pain. Your eyeballs—" she trailed off. Her hand returned to caress my jaw gently. I just held my breath so she wouldn't know that something was rumbling inside my chest cavity. "I can't be mistaken. Your eyeballs were red, Jax. Are you—"
- I flashed a faint smile. It wasn't easy for me to control my face and expression when I was close to this girl. I'm usually good at this, but somehow this time, everything felt different.
- "Think of me as a cyborg version of your bodyguard, Miss. Isn't it interesting? Come, I'll escort you to your room. You should rest." I got up and helped her up. From the look on her face, Ivanna didn't seem to believe what I said. Naturally, it was indeed a ridiculous lie. But what else could I say? I couldn't give her the answers she wanted. Besides, anything I said would sound absurd.
- It could be that after she finds out the truth, she fires me. That can't happen. There's still a special mission that I haven't managed to complete, so I have to stay here.
- I escorted Ivanna to her room. Brianna was no longer there. However, she left a note saying she was in the studio room to continue the pending design.
- I poked my head out the window, still not understanding how the girl could have fallen off the balcony, which fortunately didn't take her life. "I guess the reporters are no longer outside, Miss. You can rest in peace; I'll watch outside the room."
- When I was about to leave, the girl grabbed my arm and made me stop to listen to her request this time.
- "Please stay with me here, Jax. That thing could come back and attack me. I don't know why I'm so scared. This has never happened before. Does this have anything to do with the attack I had the other night?" the girl asked. I could say maybe. However, there was no way I could explain in detail what had happened in Eastonville recently to an ordinary human who had never seen a strange creature other than the same race as me.
- "At least you're safe. Although there were many strange events, listen to me, Miss. I don't mean to organize you. It's just that what you did last night was dangerous. If it was Mr. Alejandro having an affair with another woman, you could ask him directly. Talk to him face to face, ma'am. It will be better for your relationship." I paused my sentence. I couldn't bear to say this.
- "And about that kiss—"
- "Oh, yes! You're right. That one ... ah! How embarrassing! I'm sorry, Jax. I didn't mean to—I've done something stupid. I'm sorry. We can forget about it and let it go. I'm engaged and soon to be married to Damon anyway."
- What? Didn't she say that she wouldn't go ahead with her marriage to that man?
- "W-wait, Miss. That's not what I meant. You should probably talk to him about this, but don't rashly decide that you're going to continue—"
- "Jax ... stop, okay? I know what I have to do. I'm not a child anymore. You can go if you have to, and please just forget about it and pretend it never happened."
- I nodded, though I wasn't satisfied with this conversation. Not about us, but them. Ivanna and Damon. There was something I suspected about that man that I couldn't explain in words she could understand. However, I will definitely tell her when I have found the evidence I need about this man.
- I got up and left Ivanna in her room, hoping that whatever creature she had told me about would not appear again. She was too exhausted and perhaps a little traumatized after what had happened to her.
- I bumped into Damon on my way to my room. He stopped me in my tracks by grabbing my arm. He gripped it tightly, but I wasn't afraid of anything he might say. We never got into any trouble, from what I remember. However, it could be that he realized I was watching him. Or it could be about Ivanna.
- "Just do your job well and avoid my fiancé, Jax Alister! I may fire you if you continue to cross the line. Don't dream of getting Ivanna's heart, let alone her body. She belongs to me!"
- Yes, I know that. I never even imagined having such an amazing woman like her. My business is with you, Damon. Not Ivanna. And what I'm doing is protecting her as I should. And with Damon's threats, I'm considering tightening my protection of Ivanna and ensuring she doesn't fall victim to Damon.
- I don't know what will happen next. One thing is for sure; Ivanna, Damon, and everyone associated with them has their own secrets. And who among them is on the right side, and who is on the wrong side and will endanger Ivanna's life, then he will face me.
