Chapter 9 Do You Know Me?
- Brayden stood there, utterly speechless. Why was it that every time he told the truth, no one wanted to believe him?
- Suddenly, a man and a woman walked in.
- The man was tall and handsome.
- The woman exuded elegance and confidence.
- "It's Violet and Oliver! They're back!"
- Violet was Victor's daughter and Abigail's cousin.
- Oliver was Violet's husband, the young master of the Quinnells from Baythorn.
- The Quinnells were on par with the Marleys, both being second-tier families in Baythorn, more influential than the Eldridges.
- The Eldridges instantly rose to their feet, and even Aaron wore a beaming smile.
- Their attitude was so different from the coldness they had shown Brayden before.
- Victor quickly greeted them with a cheerful smile. "Violet, Oliver, come on over and sit down."
- Victor pointed at Brayden and said, "Let me introduce you. This is Brayden, the well-known live-in son-in-law of the Marleys. He was just telling me that he's some kind of 'military lord' and that even the Commander of the Baythorn Defense Zone has to show him respect. You're so well-informed, do you know what a 'captain' is?"
- Violet immediately laughed. "Dad, are you joking? The commander is a big shot here in Baythorn. I've never even heard of this 'captain' stuff."
- "Abigail, come on, you're my cousin. How could the man you've waited five years for turn out to be a lunatic?"
- At that moment, Abigail's face turned red with embarrassment, wishing she could just disappear.
- Brayden, on the other hand, remained completely indifferent.
- These clowns had no idea just how clueless they were.
- Oliver handed over a fancy gift box to Aaron. "Grandpa, I brought you something. I hope you like it."
- He opened the box to reveal a solid gold angel statue.
- "Well ... "
- Aaron's eyes went wide when he saw the gold angel statue.
- Violet chimed in with a smug look, "Grandpa, this gold angel cost Oliver 150 thousand dollars just for you."
- The Eldridges were immediately buzzing with astonished exclamations.
- A hundred and five hundred thousand! What a show of wealth!
- Aaron beamed and said, "Oliver, you really went all out."
- Oliver smiled and replied, "As long as you like it, that's all that matters."
- Violet then turned to Brayden and asked, "So, what's your so-called 'military lord' self bringing for Grandpa? Aren't you going to show us?"
- She walked over and unwrapped the gift Brayden had brought, revealing a jade Virgin Mary statue inside.
- "This has to be a fake. How dare you bring such trash to give Grandpa?"
- With that, Violet tossed the jade Virgin Mary statue straight into the trash can.
- Abigail watched in fury.
- The gift she and Brayden had carefully chosen was now in the garbage.
- She felt hurt and almost wanted to cry.
- Oliver looked at Aaron and asked, "Grandpa, do you know who's the prominent figure who arrived in Baythorn today? The entire airport was locked down this morning, with dozens of fighter jets providing escort and three thousand soldiers on guard."
- "What?"
- The Eldridges stared in shock.
- Aaron, curious, asked, "Who's that big shot?"
- Oliver grinned with satisfaction. "It's the God Warrior of the Wesnia, known as the Grim Reaper!"
- He looked around, clearly proud of himself.
- "You probably won't believe it, but I've actually met him once and even have his contact info!"
- "Wow, Oliver, you're incredible, knowing someone like that!"
- "Our son-in-law is something special, unlike those useless son-in-laws from the Marleys!"
- The Eldridges looked at Oliver with admiration.
- Seeing the impressive way others viewed their son-in-law, Hazel and Pierre couldn't help but feel envious.
- Brayden couldn't help but smirk.
- When had he ever met someone like Oliver?
- He had no recollection of it at all.
- Oliver was obviously just bragging. Otherwise, how could he not recognize Brayden standing right here?
- Brayden spoke up, "Oh yeah? You know that big shot, then do you happen to know who I am?"
- Oliver looked at Brayden with disdain and said, "You're just a live-in son-in-law. How would I know you?"
- Brayden chuckled. "If you don't know me, then how do you know that big shot?"
- Oliver frowned and asked, "What are you implying? Are you saying you're that big shot?"
- Brayden nodded. "Exactly. I'm that big shot—the God Warrior of the Wesnia!"
- "Hahaha!"
- Everyone burst into laughter.
- "What a lunatic!"
- "The God Warrior of the Wesnia? Do you even know who that is? It's the lord of the northwest border, commanding a million troops, guarding the border—a key figure for the country! There's no way it could be someone like you!"
- "Your cousin is so unlucky, ending up with a loser like him!"
- "Abigail, don't bring this crazy guy around again. It's just embarrassing!"
- Aaron gave Hazel a look of disgust. "What did I do to end up with a daughter like you? Marrying a nobody and now having a son-in-law who's a lunatic. You're making our family look bad."
- Hazel and Pierre kept their heads down, their faces red with shame.
- Today was the most humiliating day for their family.
- Abigail sat in the corner, taking in all the insults from the Eldridges without saying a word. Tears flowed freely down her face.
- She glanced at Brayden and felt a deep sense of disappointment.
- She had hoped that Brayden's return would bring her happiness.
- But she didn't expect Brayden to just brag and show off like a fool, making himself look ridiculous.
- Oliver gave Brayden a mocking smile. "So you're claiming to be that big shot? Well, in seven days, Mr. Ford, the richest guy in Baythorn, is throwing a welcome party for the Grim Reaper. If you really are who you say you are, I hope to see you there."
