Chapter 11 Whose Invitation Is It?

  • "Look at this! Just look! My son-in-law is so influential that the richest man delivered the invitation in person.
  • "Unlike someone, treating a regular invitation as if it's something special!"
  • Hazel couldn't pass up the rare chance to show off, so she went all in.
  • Suddenly, the Eldridges were looking down, faces stiff and awkward, too intimidated to utter a word.
  • "Hmph!"
  • Violet had had enough and stepped up.
  • "Aunt Hazel, don't get too excited. I don't think this golden invitation was meant for Brayden at all."
  • Hazel frowned, looking annoyed. "Violet, what's that supposed to mean? Everyone saw it. Mr. Ford handed the invitation to my son-in-law, Brayden, personally. Are you blind?"
  • Violet rolled her eyes. "Aunt Hazel, I hate to burst your bubble, but your son-in-law is just a stay-at-home son-in-law for the Marleys.
  • "And from what I've heard, before he became your son-in-law, he was basically a homeless guy. Do you really think Mr. Ford would go out of his way to personally deliver an invitation to him?
  • "I'm betting Mr. Ford got the wrong guy. This invitation definitely wasn't meant for Brayden!"
  • "Uh ... "
  • Hazel was caught off guard by Violet's words and didn't know how to respond.
  • Seeing Hazel go quiet, Violet grinned smugly. "Ha! Cat got your tongue, huh? Looks like you either agree with me or just can't think of anything to say.
  • "So that's the truth. Mr. Ford definitely got the wrong person.
  • "You had me worried for a second there. I mean, how could the wealthiest man in the city possibly deliver an invitation to a live-in son-in-law?
  • "Do you think Brayden will get kicked out by Mr. Ford if he shows up at the party with this invitation?
  • "Definitely! Mr. Ford'll just take one look and go, 'Who's this guy? Sorry, wrong person yesterday!'"
  • "Hahaha!"
  • The Eldridges were back to feeling smug.
  • "Stop talking nonsense! There's no way Mr. Ford would get the wrong person!"
  • Hearing the Eldridges laugh and make fun of them, Abigail couldn't keep quiet any longer.
  • Even though Brayden hadn't told her all the details, she trusted him completely. She knew her husband must be a capable man.
  • It was a trust that came from the heart.
  • Violet walked over, sneering. "Abigail, just accept it! Your husband will always be a loser. He'll never compare to Oliver.
  • "And you're just an ugly duckling, never going to become a swan."
  • "You..."
  • Abigail glared at Violet, too enraged to speak.
  • "Don't believe me, Abigail? Let me show you what despair feels like."
  • Violet let out a dismissive laugh, walked up to Brayden, and sneered, "Brayden, do you really think this invitation is for you?"
  • Brayden replied calmly, "Of course!"
  • "Hahaha!"
  • Violet burst into laughter at Brayden's response.
  • "Brayden, you're shameless. You're just a live-in son-in-law. Do you really think Mr. Ford would personally deliver an invitation to you?"
  • Brayden narrowed his eyes and asked, "If it's not meant for me, then who is it for?"
  • "Exactly," Violet declared loudly. "That invitation was sent to my family's Oliver by Mr. Ford himself!"
  • What?
  • It's for Oliver?
  • Everyone's faces were a mix of disbelief upon hearing this.
  • Oliver looked completely baffled by Violet's words.
  • How could the richest man send an invitation to him?
  • He knew his own worth.
  • There was no way Mr. Ford would personally deliver an invite to him.
  • Oliver didn't even have a chance to meet him.
  • Seeing everyone's confused looks, Violet grinned and said, "Maybe you haven't heard, but the Quinnells just landed a big project in the Baythorn Industrial Zone. They're about to become one of the prominent families in Baythorn!
  • "So, this invitation was actually meant for Oliver from Mr. Ford.
  • "He must've mixed things up and accidentally gave it to Brayden instead."
  • In an instant, everyone understood what had happened.
  • "Oh, so the invitation was for Oliver."
  • "Wow, I didn't realize the Quinnells had landed that big project in the Industrial Zone. They're about to be a top-tier family!"
  • "Oliver, when you make it big, don't forget us!"
  • "Oliver, don't forget to help us out in the future!"
  • The Eldridges were now all smiles, trying to win Oliver over.
  • With all the flattery, Oliver's ego was through the roof.
  • Aaron looked at Oliver in disbelief and asked, "Oliver, is this invitation from Mr. Ford really for you?"
  • Oliver stood up, his expression modest. "Grandpa, yes, the invitation is for me. I wanted to keep it low-key, but my success just won't let me do so."
  • "Is it true that the Quinnells are going to become a top-tier family?" Victor asked, clearly excited.
  • Oliver smiled at Victor and said, "Dad, Violet's right. The Quinnells are about to become a top-tier family."
  • "Congrats, Oliver! You're really something."
  • "With the Quinnells making it big, the Eldridges will benefit too."
  • "Unlike some people who just make us look bad."
  • The Eldridges chatted among themselves, giving Hazel's family looks of contempt.
  • Aaron beamed with joy and said, "Great, that's great! Oliver, the Eldridges will be counting on you from now on."
  • Victor, grinning, added, "Dad, look at my son-in-law! Unlike some people who just talk big without any real skills."
  • As he spoke, Victor cast a disdainful glance at Hazel's family.
  • Seeing this, Hazel and the others looked even more uncomfortable.
  • Violet smiled at Abigail and said, "I'm so sorry. As you can see, Oliver is so capable. Even Mr. Ford, the richest man in Baythorn, has to show him respect.
  • "If you ever need help, just let us know. We're all family, after all. Even though you're living like you're barely scraping by, we'll do what we can to help."
  • Abigail's face turned ashen with anger.
  • Violet's words were clearly meant to humiliate her.
  • Yet Abigail felt helpless. After all, it was a golden invitation from the richest man in Baythorn!
  • Even the Marleys weren't entitled to something like that.
  • Oliver gave a modest smile and said, "It's just a simple invitation. No need to make a big fuss about it."
  • Aaron laughed heartily. "Oliver, let me raise a glass to you!"
  • As Oliver sipped his drink, his sense of superiority grew even more pronounced.
  • Suddenly, Brayden spoke up. "Oliver, why are you so full of yourself? Is this invitation really yours?"
