Chapter 12 Beating Oliver
- Brayden couldn't figure out why the Eldridges were acting so high and mighty.
- What made them think this invitation was from Mason to Oliver?
- Was it just because of Oliver's lack of shame?
- Oliver, fuming, shot back, "Brayden, why don't you take a look in the mirror? Do you think Mr. Ford would send you an invite looking like that?"
- Aaron's face was twisted in anger as he said, "Hazel, look at your son-in-law! He's a complete lunatic. Get him out of here. He's not welcome here anymore!"
- Oliver stepped up to Brayden and held out his hand. "Brayden, give me back the golden invitation that Mr. Ford sent me."
- Slap!
- The sharp sound of the slap echoed through the room, and Oliver's face instantly turned red and swollen.
- Brayden looked at him with disdain and said, "Did I do you a favor or something?"
- Oliver, stunned by the slap, was completely thrown off.
- Not just Oliver, everyone was shocked.
- Nobody expected Brayden to dare to slap him.
- "Brayden, you're asking for trouble!"
- Oliver, now furious, charged at Brayden, ready to fight.
- Brayden looked at Oliver with a cold smile and said, "What's the matter? You looking to get yourself killed?"
- At Brayden's words, Oliver immediately stopped in his tracks.
- To him, Brayden seemed like a complete madman, no, a martial arts madman!
- And these days, a mentally ill person who kills doesn't break the law.
- Oliver thought, If I made Brayden angry and ended up getting myself killed, that would be a huge waste.
- He scoffed and said, "Hmph! Brayden, I'm generous enough not to hold a grudge against you, just a lowly live-in son-in-law."
- "Brayden, how dare you hit my husband? You're asking for trouble!"
- "You're just a son-in-law, and you've got the guts to hit my son-in-law? Are you tired of living?"
- Seeing Oliver get hit, Victor and Violet both flushed with anger.
- Brayden hitting Oliver was like a slap in their faces.
- Aaron's rage boiled over as he shouted, "Brayden, get out of here! You're not welcome in our family."
- The Quinnells were on the verge of becoming a top-tier family, and the Eldridges would need the Quinnells' support in the future.
- Brayden slapped Oliver. Aaron was worried that the Quinnells might come after the Eldridges in retaliation.
- The thought of it made him even more furious.
- As everyone began criticizing Brayden, Abigail couldn't hold back any longer.
- "Grandpa, Brayden is your granddaughter's husband too. But ever since he arrived, you've been mocking him nonstop.
- "And Oliver has been looking for trouble with Brayden. That's why Brayden ended up slapping him. But now everyone's blaming Brayden.
- "Grandpa, you're being so unfair. None of you are treating our family like we're really part of the Eldridges," As she spoke, Abigail's tears started to fall.
- The family dinner that night had been a humiliating experience for her and her family.
- Hazel and Pierre's eyes also welled up with emotion.
- Aaron remained expressionless, giving a cold snort.
- Brayden walked over, wrapped his arms around Abigail, and said with genuine concern, "Don't cry, silly. These people aren't worth your tears."
- "Brayden, let's get out of here!"
- Abigail shook her head, utterly fed up with the Eldridges.
- They walked out through the gate of the Eldridges' villa.
- Abigail looked at Brayden and asked, "Brayden, was that golden invitation really from Mr. Ford?"
- Seeing her doubt, Brayden frowned and said, "Abigail, I'm your husband. If nobody else believes me, that's fine, but why don't you trust me?"
- Brayden was at a loss. He was being honest, yet no one believed him, even his own wife. Was telling the truth this hard now?
- Abigail's heart softened instantly. She nodded and said, "Alright, I'll believe you this time. Just don't let me down again."
- Then, she turned and walked back into the Eldridge Residence.
- Brayden didn't go in immediately. Instead, he picked up his phone and made a call.
- "Tiger, I'll be attending the party in seven days. Can you make the arrangements for me?
- "And if any unwanted guests show up, make sure to deal with them.
- "Also, contact the Evercare Hospital. My daughter has surgery tomorrow.
- "And find us the best house in Baythorn. My wife and daughter shouldn't be living in a basement, and my in-laws shouldn't be stuck relying on others and getting mocked."
- "Got it, I'll take care of it right away!"
- Brayden hung up.
- ...
- The Eldridges' dinner wrapped up quickly.
- As they were about to leave, Aaron suddenly spoke up. "Oliver, you and Violet should stay here tonight."
- Oliver's face lit up with joy. "Thanks, Grandpa!"
- Hearing this, Hazel grew anxious. "Dad, if Oliver and Violet are staying here, where will we stay?"
- Ever since Pierre's family was kicked out of the Marleys, they had been living at the Eldridge Residence.
- There were limited rooms at the Eldridge Residence, and now with Oliver and Violet staying there, where would Hazel's family go?
- Aaron glanced at Hazel's family with a scowl.
- "You all can stay at the old residence. With Brayden, that madman, living here, who knows what might happen if he goes crazy?"
- Hazel's eyes reddened as he heard Aaron's words.
- The Eldridge Old Residence had been abandoned for over a decade. It was run-down and barely livable.
- As Hazel was about to argue, Pierre stopped her and said, "Forget it, let's just go back to the old residence."
- Pierre realized that, in the eyes of the Eldridges, they were basically outsiders. As a son-in-law, he had no real standing.
- He glanced at Brayden, thinking that they were both in the same boat, struggling as son-in-laws.
- Oliver shot Brayden a smug grin and said, "Brayden, don't let me down tomorrow night. If you can't get in, don't even think about saying you know me. I don't want to be embarrassed."
- Brayden smirked back and said, "Oh really? I should be saying that to you. If you can't get in, make sure you don't mention you know me."
- Hmph!
- Oliver just brushed off Brayden's words with a sneer.
- No one took a lunatic's words seriously.
- As Hazel's family walked out of the Eldridge Residence, they all looked visibly upset.
- Hazel finally lost her temper.
- "Brayden, it's all your fault. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't be the laughingstock tonight.
- "If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have been kicked out of the Marleys and now we wouldn't be without a place to live.
- "You're a jinx. You left that year, why come back now? Did our family owe you something in a past life? Just get lost!"
