Chapter 3 A Family Reunion

  • It's Hope!
  • As soon as Abigail heard Hope's voice, she was completely shocked.
  • She couldn't explain where her energy came from, but she shoved Oscar with all her force, hitting and kicking him.
  • Slap!
  • Next, she struck Oscar sharply on the face.
  • "You miserable woman, how dare you touch me? I'll make sure you regret it today!"
  • Oscar erupted in rage, grabbing at Abigail's clothes and ripping them apart.
  • Seeing this, Hope was terrified and started crying, shouting, "Don't hurt Mommy!"
  • Hope rushed over, clung to Oscar's leg, and bit him hard.
  • "Ouch! You little br*t, your mother is a disgrace, and you're even worse! Get out of here!"
  • Oscar raised his leg, aiming to kick Hope.
  • Then, a figure moved quickly.
  • A powerful punch landed on Oscar.
  • "Ah!"
  • Oscar yelled in pain as he was thrown through the air.
  • Even though Brayden was deeply disappointed in Abigail, seeing her being mistreated by another man and his daughter being insulted, he felt an indescribable ache in his heart.
  • "Let's go!"
  • Brayden picked up Hope and, with his other hand, pulled Abigail out.
  • "Who are you? Let me go!"
  • The poor lighting in the room made it hard for Abigail to see his face.
  • Brayden glanced back, his expression dark as he said to Abigail, "Abigail, you greedy woman, take a good look at who I am!"
  • When Abigail finally saw his face clearly, she felt as if she had been hit by lightning.
  • It was him!
  • My husband!
  • The man I was compelled to marry five years ago.
  • The man who vanished the day after our wedding!
  • In an instant, Abigail's mind went blank.
  • Meanwhile, Brayden was also in a state of turmoil.
  • Five years ago, he had been expelled from the Gatlins and ended up on the streets.
  • Just when he was on the verge of starving to death, the Marleys came across him.
  • They claimed that his horoscope profile perfectly aligned with Abigail's and that their marriage could bring fortune to the head of the Marleys, Grant Marley.
  • As a result, Brayden became a son-in-law living with his wife's family.
  • The day after their wedding, a conscription order was issued by the state, and Brayden enlisted in the army seeking revenge.
  • Five years later, he had become a legend in the military, a legendary figure known as the Grim Reaper.
  • Abigail's eyes filled with tears, slowly breaking down.
  • Her tears streamed continuously.
  • Suddenly, she flung herself into Brayden's arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
  • "Brayden, you heartless man, you've finally returned!"
  • Is she crying?
  • What's happening?
  • Is she trying to look helpless in front of me?
  • Brayden shoved Abigail away roughly, his expression icy as he glared at her and demanded, "Do you even know what I saw when I returned to the Marley Residence? I saw our daughter, chained up like a dog, lying on the floor.
  • "Even the servant was hitting her, while you were here drinking with other men. How can you call yourself a mother? Is this how you've been taking care of our daughter?"
  • "Ah!"
  • Hearing these words, Abigail's emotions completely unraveled.
  • She cried out in despair.
  • "My daughter! My poor baby! I am so sorry!"
  • The thought of her daughter lying on the ground like a dog tore at her heart.
  • She wept uncontrollably.
  • Suddenly, she balled her fists and began hitting Brayden's chest.
  • "You j*rk! This is all your fault! If it weren't for you, our daughter wouldn't have gone through this. What gives you the right to blame me?
  • "Do you have any idea how many people have looked down on me these past five years? After our daughter was born, no one was there to help. I had to manage everything alone, and every time she asked where her father was, I didn't have an answer.
  • "I'm a woman too, I wanted someone to lean on. Life has been so difficult for me, I just can't bear it anymore ... "
  • Abigail sobbed uncontrollably, the last five years had been too harsh for her.
  • When Brayden heard her words, he was shocked.
  • He hadn't realized how difficult her life had been during these past five years.
  • "Abigail, I apologize ... "
  • Brayden extended his hand, trying to wipe away the tears on her face.
  • Abigail shouted in a strained voice, "You j*rk! Heartless man! Do you even know our daughter was born with a congenital heart defect? The doctor said she needed surgery before her sixth birthday!
  • "But I don't have the money! I begged everyone I knew for help over three days, but no one would give me a loan. I had no other option but to go to Oscar, a loan shark. He had bad intentions towards me, he wanted to keep me!
  • "Do you really think I want to sit here drinking with other men? I was left with no choice!"
  • Brayden's mind went blank.
  • Abigail's words hit him like a bolt of lightning, leaving him stunned.
  • It became clear that he had completely misunderstood Abigail.
  • Abigail hadn't been taking care of Hope for the past three days because she was desperately trying to gather money for Hope's medical treatment.
  • At the same time, Brayden felt a wave of fury building inside him.
  • Oscar had dared to make advances on his wife. Did he have a death wish?
  • "Abigail, I'm so sorry. I got it all wrong. This is all on me ... "
  • Brayden embraced her firmly.
  • Right now, his heart was consumed with regret and guilt.
  • This strong and tough man began to cry.
  • "I'm sorry, Honey, I was wrong!
  • "From now on, I won't ever let you endure any more pain. I will make sure you become the happiest woman in the world!"
  • Abigail sobbed uncontrollably in his arms.
  • All the years of suffering were released at that moment.
  • After that, Brayden and his family headed back home.
  • It was a dimly lit basement, yet it was spotless.
  • As Brayden recalled the lavish mansion the Marleys lived in and then glanced around at the rundown basement, he couldn't help but tighten his fists.
  • "Is this where you've been living?"
  • Abigail nodded, "When you left, the Marleys felt I had shamed them, so they kicked us out."
  • Brayden inquired, "Where are your parents?"
  • Abigail appeared lost and remarked, "After we were kicked out of the Marleys, my mom couldn't bear the blow and went back to her own family. My dad left with her to try and win her back."
  • Brayden felt a surge of guilt after hearing this.
  • Abigail's family had ended up in this situation because of him.
  • Hope, hiding behind Abigail, watched Brayden with interest.
  • Abigail told Hope, "Hope, come here and call him 'Daddy'. He's your father."
  • Upon hearing her mother, Hope seemed a bit anxious.
  • She struggled to say the word "Daddy".
  • Brayden crouched down and gently patted Hope's head, "Hope, I'm your dad. From now on, I'll take care of you and your mom. I'll make sure you both have everything you deserve and become the envy of everyone, alright?"
  • "Daddy ... "
  • Upon hearing Brayden's words, Hope threw herself into his arms and began to cry.
  • At that moment, Brayden's heart softened completely.
  • The powerful, unmatched warrior found himself in tears right there.
