Chapter 6 Fell Down

  • Nikolas' pov
  • Everyone was stunned, Sophia especially. I guessed she had never expected Elizabeth to have such a reaction in a public place.
  • Neither did I, but I trusted Elizabeth and knew she must have something planned for tonight. I patted Elizabeth's back, holding her close as her shoulders trembled with tears.
  • Everyone could feel the awkwardness in the air. The reporters had gone quiet and were only working on their cameras now.
  • When I saw the faintest smile on Elizabeth's face, I just knew it. The lovely bait has been taken.
  • “I…” Elizabeth glanced at me and then back at her feet. “I don't deserve to be happy. I know I am a horrible sister but I have tried my best. I really do. For the sake of my lovely sister here who couldn't help but fall in love with my ex-husband…” Elizabeth paused and wiped her eyes before turning to the reporters. “Yes, I tried to force Sophia to abort her child.”
  • Gasps and grumbles here and there. It was a predicted response but what Elizabeth said after was quick to dissolve the negative feeling.
  • “As a sister, isn't it my duty to protect my lovely sister from the claws of people? Sophia is still very innocent.” Elizabeth removed her hand from my elbow and walked up to Sophia. Wrapping her hands around Sophia's shoulders, I watched Elizabeth's face morphing into an expression filled with regret. “It is only my fault that I did not notice when Sophia was in pain. I didn't want her to keep the child and be attacked for sleeping with my husband and becoming a homewrecker.”
  • “Sister, what are you…” Sophia tried to speak but Elizabeth patted her shoulders.
  • “I know it took a while for me to come around to you and Mason being in love but rest assured, you can be with Mason now. I have processed the divorce already. Thanks to Chairman Torrington here who helped me come to the conclusion that letting you fly free was the best option.”
  • “I… well... sister... the baby is not really…”
  • “It's fine. The baby will have an aunt as cool as me.” Elizabeth turned back to the reporters who were surprised by the turn of events. “Although I didn't think straight at first and only aimed to protect my sister, I have now realized her happiness should come first as always.”
  • Sophia managed a smile but it sort of turned out ugly and forced. “Thank…thank you, sister.”
  • “It is a lovely night. There is no need to worry about anything. You should go rest and don't stress the baby.” Elizabeth finally walked back to my arms and I happily placed a kiss on her head.
  • “That was lovely,” I whispered.
  • “It is just the beginning of the night,” Elizabeth responded back with a smile as she wiped the corners of her eyes.
  • The opinions of the reporters immediately changed and their comments took a turn.
  • “First Miss Darby is too nice. How could she come to terms with such a thing?”
  • “If my sister dared to fall in love with my husband, I will make sure I see them to the pit of hell.” A female reporter viciously said while glaring at Sophia.
  • The cameras zoomed in on Sophia and she began to panic. Elizabeth's plan was a simple yet toxic blow. Showing the media she is of no harm to Sophia while subtly subjecting Sophia to vicious claws.
  • “When did it start? When did you start to crave your sister's husband?”
  • “It started recently and we didn't dare to let it escalate but as Elizabeth just said, our feelings really can't be controlled and happiness matters the most.” Sophia managed to say while taking a cautious step back.
  • But the reporters weren't buying it. “To think she even dared to act righteous and talk about falling in love with her sister's husband like it was something to be proud of.”
  • “Does being a homewrecker feel good? Where is that reporter who was attacking First Miss Darby? Come and say something now.”
  • They all looked around for the balding man but he was nowhere to be found. Right now it was obvious to everyone that Sophia hired the man to slander Elizabeth.
  • “Sophia Darby definitely hired him. His attacks were only for First Miss Darby.”
  • “Exactly. Any normal person would be asking why Sophia Darby is with her sister's husband.”
  • The reporters continued to bombard Sophia with questions while Elizabeth leaned against my arm acting tired. I patted her back and proceeded to move on but a reporter shouted from the crowd.
  • “Sophia Darby is an animal in human skin.” The reporter rushed forward and threw some photos on the floor.
  • The others quickly scrambled around it and took pictures while taking one for themselves. Elizabeth picked one and appeared shocked. She froze and stared at Sophia as tears began to stream down her cheeks.
  • “You said it was of recent.” Elizabeth accused.
  • “Oh my God, this is probably the dirtiest scandal of the century.”
  • “How can you do such a thing to your sister?”
  • Sophia picked a photo and began to furiously shake her head. “No...no this is fake... she set me up. Elizabeth set me up!” She screamed her hair falling apart. “Mason!”
  • My nephew walked towards Sophia and stared at the photos. His face turned white all of a sudden. “These…”
  • “Miss Sophia, don't even dare to deny it. This was your sister's wedding night and everyone knows you posted on your social media pages that you were at the same hotel where your sister was supposed to have her wedding night. It is reasonable to think that you were to snatch your sister's husband.” The male reporter was furious as he spoke and it riled everyone up.
  • “On her wedding night! How shameful!”
  • “You set me up!” Sophia simply screamed at Elizabeth and tried to lunge towards her but I pulled Elizabeth and walked away from the red carpet. Enough drama for the night.
  • Sophia was still screaming and I could hear it even as I dragged Elizabeth to the dining area. Handing her my handkerchief, I said. “That was epic.”
  • Elizabeth dabbed at the tears and smiled at me. “I found out that Sophia's most precious ability is her acting skills and the way to turn things around so I adopted it.”
  • I knew she took my advice and I was so fucking proud of her. If we weren't at the banquet right now, I would have loved to bend her over and impale her with my cock.
  • Just the thought of it made my cock stir in my pants. The shameless thing already getting hard.
  • “I will be in the first guest room, I want to adjust my makeup.” She informed me before walking away.
  • Although I had informed my parents and grandparents of the development between Elizabeth and me, I still needed to speak to them physically.
  • On my way to the family room where I knew they would be, I heard Sophia crying to someone. Peeking, I saw that it was my good-for-nothing nephew.
  • “Elizabeth set me up, Mason! That bitch did.”
  • “I know. Just relax. There is nothing we can do for her right now. She has the media favors.”
  • Sophia screamed and Mason tried to cover her mouth. “I don't care.” She was trembling with anger as she spoke and the scene was extremely satisfying. “I will kill her myself and I don't care. You better set the stage or there will be consequences.”
  • It was amusing that Sophia thought she could get to Elizabeth. Not on my watch. She may have succeeded once but never again.
  • The family room was empty when I got in and I asked a servant if he had seen my parents.
  • “Master, they are at the guest quarters. Your mother wanted to watch the show of the media so…”
  • I nodded my head and stepped out, knowing my mother's love for gossiping must have pushed the rest there since the general balcony at the guest quarters had a clear view of the media outside.
  • As I walked past the first guest room, I remembered Elizabeth was in there and a cunning idea to tease her came to my mind.
  • With my hands on the knob, I was about to slowly turn around when Mason grabbed my arm.
  • “Uncle...” he glanced at my hand that was on the knob and seemed uneasy. “You and Elizabeth tonight…”
  • I have never liked Mason and it never stemmed from the truth I learned about him five years ago. No. It was pure instinct. And I was always one to trust my instincts.
  • “Be glad I am keeping you alive after what you made Elizabeth go through.” I took a threatening step forward and Mason released his hold on my arm. “If I see you anywhere near her, trust me Mason, it will be the day the Torrington family weeps over their child.”
  • He looked shocked but his phone alarm went off intercepting his expression. Turning it off, he gave me a faint smirk. “I don't think any of us will be seeing Elizabeth again.”
  • His words confused me for a few seconds before the dread finally set in. My grip on the doorknob turned cold and my heart started to skip beats. I was about to barge into the room when I heard a scream followed by a thud.
  • The screams of the media came next, followed by my mother's familiar shriek.
  • “Someone just fell from the third floor!” a voice shouted.
