Chapter 1 That Time I Have Been Reborn

  • Elizabeth
  • “Mason you're killing me...go faster!”
  • “Keep it down. Elizabeth might have woken up, she'll hear you.”
  • The smile initially on my lips fell.
  • I recognized those voices very well, even more than mine.
  • Mason was my husband and the woman's voice sounded like my stepsister.
  • Today was my first anniversary with Mason as a married couple. I had made so many plans for today but now…
  • My heart stopped beating for a few seconds, that couldn't be right. I approached the door slowly to get a clearer vision of them.
  • The closer I took to the door, the more my heart squeezed in pain and the louder their moans grew in my ears.
  • I reached for the door's knob and pushed it gently and what came before my eyes made me take a dejected step backwards in despair.
  • Mason was seated on his chair while Sophia sat on him moving up and down in a particular rhythm. Their faces were glistened with sweats and their moans grew louder than before.
  • From the lady's back view, I could make out who she was in a second. They hadn't noticed my arrival yet since they were so deep in their adulterous act.
  • “You're f*cking sweet Sophia..” Mason groaned throwing his head backward.
  • I lost my grip on the gift box for Mason and it fell lightly to the floor next to my foot. It was loud enough to grab their attention because they both snapped their head towards my direction and I instinctively placed both of my hands over my mouth to stop myself from screaming out in pain.
  • The dams in my eyes broke out wetting my face with tears. I was too broken to take a step forward to them. I was at a loss for words at that moment. How could they do this to me?
  • “Elizabeth...”
  • Mason's eyes grew large once he noticed me. I took a retreating step back and then another before I completely ran off from them.
  • I couldn't contain the pain and agony I felt seeing them that way. I thought he loved me but that didn't seem like the case to me a minute ago. He was busy screwing my sister!
  • My legs moved swiftly on their own accords towards the exit of the Villa we moved into a few weeks ago.
  • The house was situated at the edge of a cliff while a clear lake lay beneath. It was a breathtaking view, one which I loved watching with Mason.
  • My grips my hair in agony as a painful scream left my mouth. I could hear the echoes of my own scream and it tore my heart into a million pieces.
  • I was so lost in my agony that I hadn't realized when Mason and Sophia appeared behind me.
  • “Elizabeth”
  • I turned swiftly to find them standing before me, I could swear that I didn't find an ounce of regrets in their eyes. Instead, all I saw was mockery.
  • “Why Mason?” I finally found my voice to speak. My eyes never left his because I desperately wanted to know where I went wrong in our marriage.
  • "Sister… I'm sorry, but I’m pregnant with Mason’s child. Believe me, I never wanted things to end this way between us. But you’ve left us no choice.” Sophia’s voice was sugar-coated, her eyes bright with something close to triumph as she placed a hand over her stomach rubbing it gently.b
  • I gripped my fists, feeling the weight of every emotion rising in me, forcing myself to stay calm, to stay decent. They would not get the satisfaction of watching me break.
  • Turning to Mason, I struggled to keep the tremor from my voice. “Tell me, Mason. Have you forgotten that you’re my husband? the woman you’re sleeping with is my sister?”
  • Instead of getting an answer from my husband all he ever did was to stretch a paper to me.
  • “Sign the divorce papers, Elizabeth. Don’t make us take drastic measures.” Mason’s face was as cold as the wind whipping through my hair, and he took a bold step forward, a motion meant to intimidate me. Sophia hung close to him, her lips forming a practiced pout.
  • The air was cold and still as I faced the two people I once trusted the most. The cliffside loomed dark and foreboding behind me, the jagged rocks below obscured by mist.
  • How could they be so heartless? Didn't they feel any remorse for what they had done?
  • I felt a sharp, hollow ache in my chest. This was Mason, the man I’d once trusted with my heart, standing here, fighting for her.
  • Sophia let out a soft sigh, her voice thick with mocking sympathy. "I know this is painful for you, Elizabeth. It’s painful for me, too. I hate causing you such suffering. But what can I do if Mason loves me? We both tried to stay away, to resist... but you just have to accept he doesn’t love you anymore.” Her tone was gentle, but each word was like a knife to my heart.
  • “Love?” I scoffed, the bitterness catching in my throat. “Today is our anniversary Mason. The least you could have done is keep a shred of dignity and respect towards this day”
  • Sophia tilted her head, pressing herself closer to him, her hand patting her stomach. “We’re only trying to make things right. If you refuse to sign, how can we welcome this child into the world? How can we move on?”
  • “You won't sign it?” Mason's gaze grew colder, his voice cutting.
  • “Not in your wildest dreams.” I snapped at Mason, then turned to Sophia, my eyes narrowing at her stomach. “That child, Sophia, is a bastard, and I will make sure it remains such.”
  • "Elizabeth!" They both shouted, taking a step forward.
  • “What are you—” I stumbled back, fear spiking through me as I glanced over my shoulder at the sheer drop behind me. All at once, the terrible truth sank in: Were they trying to push me off the cliff?
  • My heart pounded, but I forced my voice to stay steady. “People will know. They’ll know you did this.”
  • Mason chuckled, his mouth twisting cruelly. “People will simply think you couldn’t live with yourself after all you’ve done. That you slipped, hit your head on the rocks, and fell to your death.”
  • Before I could react, Sophia lunged forward, shoving me with all her strength. My scream echoed as I fell, the icy wind ripping the breath from my lungs. I hit the water below with a force that shattered through me, the frigid cold swallowing me whole as I sank into the darkness.
  • The last of my strength was fading when I saw something—a figure in the water, frantically swimming toward me. He reached for me, his eyes burning with a strange intensity. Even in my final moments, I knew those eyes. They were blue, piercing, filled with a desperation I’d never known.
  • His lips touched mine, his breath hot.
  • The world began to spin, emitting blinding lights, and my ears were ringing wildly.
  • My body felt as if it had been torn apart and stitched back together. My lungs expanded, filling with air as a gut-wrenching scream tore from my throat. My ears were ringing, and a voice echoed in my head, relentless and wild:
  • Revenge! Revenge! Revenge!
  • I sucked in a shuddering breath, shocked to find that what I breathed in was not water, but air.
  • I HAD BEEN REBORN!!!
  • I sat up, gasping, my eyes scanning my surroundings. I was in my room. In my apartment, judging by the familiar interior. My mind reeled—I was breathing and alive.
  • I looked around, disoriented. My sheets were soaked in sweat as if I had truly just risen from the sea. Trembling, I stumbled out of bed, grabbing onto the nightstand for support. My eyes fell on my alarm clock—and then I froze.
  • The date flashed: April 20, 2021 a day to my anniversary with Mason.
  • I had returned to the day before I died.
  • The realization struck me like lightning. This wasn’t a dream. The universe had given me another chance. God had given me this new life—for revenge. I would make them pay. And the last thing I remembered—the pair of blue eyes that had come for me in the water...
  • Of all the people I knew, only Nikolas Torrington had eyes that blue.
  • But he was Mason’s uncle.
