Chapter 2 Overwhelming Hatred
- "Emily!" Seeing Emily had lost control of her emotions, Sophia immediately went over and pulled her daughter into her arms, stopping her from going after Corey.
- "Let go of me! I'm going to kill that b*stard. How could he do this to me?"
- Emily madly struggled in Sophia's arms while yelling. Her fierce expression scared the surrounding bystanders, causing them to move out of her way.
- A while later, Corey's figure finally disappeared, and Emily fell into Sophia's arms in a daze. Her eyes seemed lifeless. It was as though she was a walking ghost.
- With tears staining her face, she broke down and cried hysterically. That was the man who destroyed her future and everything she had.
- He caused her, a dance prodigy, to become a lunatic everyone looked down on.
- He was the one who caused her, the young lady everyone admired, to become a loser who couldn't even keep her job at a small company.
- "Mommy, don't cry. I'm scared." Freya approached Emily and wept.
- "Freya, my dear daughter." When the devastated Emily heard her daughter's voice, her soulless eyes seemed to regain some vigor, and she frantically pulled Freya into her embrace. "Freya, oh, Freya. Promise me that you'll never leave me, okay? Stay with me forever."
- …
- After leaving the chaotic farmer's market, Corey could still hear Freya's cries in his head, rendering him unable to calm down for a while. At the same time, he could feel the overwhelming hatred Emily had for him in her desperate screams. The remorse he felt was indescribable.
- Meanwhile, Fabian, who had just finished cleaning up the clinic, looked at Corey with guilt. "Boss, do you blame me for keeping you from meeting Emily Fisher?"
- Silently taking a draw of his cigarette, Corey shook his head slightly. "If I had wanted to meet her, you wouldn't have been able to stop me. It's just that I'm afraid to face her."
- Fabian let out a deep sigh when he saw the guilt on Corey's face. "Boss, Freya is everything to Emily, and your sudden appearance would lead her to think that you came back to take Freya away from her. Besides, she had lost everything because of you, and her world was turned upside down, so it's normal for her to resent you. You can't blame her for some of the things that happened."
- "I understand." Corey lit another cigarette as he mumbled, "The hatred she has gathered over the years can't be easily dispelled with a few words."
- "Boss, getting Emily to forgive you won't be easy. As Freya's father, you're related by blood, which is undeniable. Moreover, Emily is kind, but her hatred toward you is too overwhelming. I believe you can certainly tame the hatred inside Emily's heart as long as you make an effort to do it."
- Corey nodded but didn't say anything in response. Instead, he looked out the window at the blue sky and fell into a deep thought.
- …
- It was evening the next day when Emily dragged her exhausted body to Sunshine Elementary School to pick Freya up.
- "What? Freya left?"
- When Emily heard what the teacher said, she immediately lost her cool, and her breathing became labored. "Was it a man who brought her away?"
- "I-I don't know." The teacher became anxious as she explained, "Freya told me she saw you outside. Many parents were outside then, and I let her out without noticing it. Freya is usually a good child, so I thought she wouldn't lie to me."
- "How could you let her leave on her own?!" Emily yelled angrily at the teacher before decisively leaving.
- At that moment, her mind was filled with the figure she saw at the farmer's market, and her heart felt like it was about to jump out of her throat. She was shivering and filled with terror. "That damn b*stard! How could he hurt me and still want to take Freya away from me?"
- Looking at the busy road, Emily huffed and puffed while standing there. Tears gathered at the corner of her eyes as she fisted her hands, trembling. "Corey Reid, you b*stard! Freya is everything to me. I'll kill you if you dare take her away!"
- At the same time, Freya was standing by the road with her backpack on her back. She was holding a large plastic bag while looking at a plastic water bottle a couple was holding with her big, watery eyes. Standing there, unmoving, she looked like she was looking at a delicious meal after going on a hunger strike.
- The woman noticed Freya and asked, "Hey, kid. Do you want this bottle?"
- Freya nodded her little head repeatedly without saying anything.
- "Here. It's yours now."
- The couple looked at each other and quickly approached Freya before gently placing it into her plastic bag.
- "Thank you so much," Freya spoke in her cutesy voice. Then, she obediently bowed deeply at the couple, showing her sincerity.
- "What a polite child you are."
- The woman stroked Freya's head and took out a fifty bill from her pocket. She handed it to Freya and said, "I don't know why you're picking up plastic bottles, but you're so cute, and I can't help but want to give you a small gift. Take this."
- "My mommy says I shouldn't take other people's money. Thank you for giving me the bottle." Freya grabbed her plastic bag and ran away like the wind.
- The young couple exchanged glances. Both of them seemed shocked as they watched Freya disappear from their sight before leaving.
- At 7.00PM, Freya's tiny frame appeared at a waste depot with a huge bag of bottles and cans.
- Although she was exhausted, she was especially happy when thinking about the money she would get after selling these bottles. Her mother could finally relax a little.
- However, she fell into a sports car due to exhaustion. The aluminum cans inside fell out and landed on a BMW.
- "Whose child is this?" A 120-pound old man immediately came out of the car.
- "Sir, I'm sorry. I didn't do it on purpose." Freya paled from the shock and immediately bowed while apologizing to the man. Then, she quickly took out a coin from her bag. "Sir, I'll compensate for your loss."
- The man noticed that there were no scratches on his car, but he was instantly furious when he saw the coin. Without saying another word, he slapped Freya across the face, bellowing, "Do you know how much this car costs? Call your parents immediately. If they don't pay me 50 thousand for my losses, I'll send you straight to jail."
- Fifty thousand… Freya touched her stinging cheeks, and she started crying due to fright. Her family was already tight on money, and her mother worked hard to earn money to afford her grandfather's medical fees and pay rent. A few days ago, Freya even saw her mother begging others to lend them money. If they found out Freya owed someone 50 thousand, her mother would be furious.
- "Sir, we don't have that much money. My mommy needs to pay for my grandpa's medical fees and our rent. We don't have any money left."
- Freya sat on the ground, clutching the bag full of bottles and cans. Her eyes were red as she mumbled, "How about I pay you back once I've sold the bottles I've collected? I don't want my mommy to work so hard. Please, I beg you."
- "No!" the man yelled fiercely. "How dare you bump into my car when you don't have any money to pay me back? No one can save you if you don't pay me now."
- People started gathering around them.
- "Oh, no. How did that child bump into that tyrant's car?"
- "That tyrant is Brody Beasley. He is notorious for being a devil and loves to blackmail others. I feel sad for the girl."
- "There isn't even a scratch. He's just trying to make the little girl suffer. What a jerk."
- "Does he take pride in bullying a little girl?"
- "All of you, get out of my sight!" Brody ordered.
- The group instantly shut up.
- While they could speak up for Freya, they were still afraid to offend Brody. After all, he was the notorious local tyrant around here, and ordinary people who offended him would never be able to live in peace.
- Brody kicked the bag away and grabbed Freya by the neck as he demanded angrily, "Brat, hurry up and call your parents."
- Freya, who was being choked, kept making gurgling sounds from her throat. Upon seeing how the bystanders stood there and did nothing, coupled with the demanding man before her, she felt devastated. Suddenly, she remembered the man she called her father.
- Whenever her fellow students were bullied in school, a man they called "father" would appear and protect them. But where was her father? Freya had never seen him, and he seemed to have never appeared in her life.
- "Papa…" Suddenly, Freya broke down. While she was feeling the most hopeless, she called out the name she had never called before.
- "Brody, that's enough. There's not even a tiny scratch. Do you have to do that to a child?" A woman carrying a basket of vegetables couldn't stand it anymore and chastised Brody.
- Brody shot the woman a cold glance before throwing Freya to the ground. "Stop f*cking trying to guilt trip me. How about I make you pay for it?" he shouted at the woman.
- The woman was speechless after hearing that. She was already tight on money, so there was no way she could help Freya. In the end, she could only give Freya a pitiful glance.
- "Sure. I'll pay for it."
- At that moment, a black Rolls-Royce Phantom slowly stopped before everyone's eyes.
