Chapter 7

• I got home that day, told my parents what happened. I must admit it was not easy telling them, especially when I had to tell them I have been suspended from school for 2 weeks and that the principal had asked for one of their presence in school.
• My Mom was just so angry and disappointed,shouting and cursing Emeka. You know how mother's used to behave, while my father was as calm as calm can be, he didn't say more than what was necessary, he asked when he needed to be present in school and gave me some advice on life Matters...
• TWO DAYS have passed since I was suspended. My parents and I had gone to meet with the principal, and I was fined 30,000 naira for fighting and disturbing the peace of the school. I told you my principal knows how to get money involved in everything, yeah such an opportunist.
• My dad paid the fine and we both headed home.. However, on our way out of the school compound, a Range Rover Sport 2022 model was just making its way into the school compound and with it were six other escort cars.
• It was Emeka dad with Emeka, we didn't wait to see what happened next as we got into our less glorified Toyota Camry, and off we went...
• THE NEXT DAY
• I was home alone luckily there was light so I was busy on the TV but not watching movies this time but I was on MTV BASE NAIJA, busy listening to the latest Nigerian and foreign songs, they were playing KILOMETER by BURNA BOY it was my first time hearing it, so I was carried away by the song that I didn't hear that someone have been knocking on the door for about 2 minutes, after the song had finished playing I heard a sound from the door.
• KNOCK!! KNOCK!!
• I quickly reduced the TV and went to check who was knocking. To my surprise it was Ayo.
• What is he doing here?
• “Hello Chris," Ayo greeted as I opened the door but I didn't give him a welcoming atmosphere.
• He swallowed down. ”I came to check up on you and to apologize for what happened. It was all my fault I shouldn't have said anything to Emeka or anyone else."
• “Ayo, it's too late for that now the damage has already been done, I was flogged, insulted and Sandra hates me now even if by a miracle she forgives me her father won't let me go an inch close to her. So you see you have destroyed my life completely, the only good thing from all this is the fact that Emeka also suffered what I suffered. He wasn't able to escape punishment with his father's money."
• I noticed a change in Ayo's expressions when I commented about Emeka.
• “Please forgive me Chris. I never knew that this would happen, we have been best friends for so long and I would like us to still be friends and about Emeka.."
• “What about Emeka?"
• ”Well..he has been pardoned so his suspension has been called off, he was in school today."
• “What?!"
• What Ayo just said made me so mad, so Emeka's father had bribed the Principal that day he came to school and now his Son gets to go to school while I stay at home, which will make everyone think that what Emeka said about me was true...
• ”No!! No! No! No! This is injustice! Total injustice!.. Is it because his father is a senator or what? Ayo this is all your fault you know?! I never liked Emeka and you know this yet you went and told him something like that. I am sorry but I can never forgive you for this. I won't!"
• I said then slammed the door at him, and angrily walked to my room.
• I felt like taking a gun and just shot Emeka and his Dad along with my stupid principal. The three of them deserve to die! But I didn't really hate or blame Ayo for what happened. I had already forgiven him. I just wanted him to suffer a little like how I was suffering and the only way I know I can do that is to pretend I am still mad at him. I will probably forgive him when I resume school in two weeks.
• I thought about telling my parents what the principal had done but then l I thought it would be better not to, they have gotten into a lot of trouble because of me already. I didn't want them to still suffer for my mistake.
• The day went by, I tried to keep my mind clear from all the troubles in school in the only way I know how to. I watched all kinds of movies and listened to different types of songs, not forgetting playing some good video games.
• ONE WEEK AFTER BEING SUSPENDED.
• We had a visitor at home, it was my cousin Felicia, she is schooling in the University of Lagos (Unilag) She just got admitted. A 100 level student studying Mass Communication.
• They are on strike, and she didn't want to go home cause her parents lived in Enugu which is very far from her school, a different state entirely, in case it turns out to be a short strike, so she won't have to waste money for transportation, so she came to stay with us instead.
• I wasn't really pleased at her staying at our house for too long because ever since she gained admission to the University she starts thinking too big of herself, she wants me to be calling her Sister Felicia or Aunty Felicia instead of only her first name. This is a girl that is just one year older than me and this girl is a snake. Any time my parents are at home she behaves like a saint but when they are off to work, her boys keep flocking to the house and she is only 16 years old!!!
• But that's not even the worst part, any time her boyfriends come visiting she will like to send me on one of those crazy errands of hers that will take forever for me to return back, so they could do what nonsense they want to do alone.
• I am just not saying anything to my parents cause I know that in a week's time I will be back in school, and won't have to see her often…
• “Chris, why aren't you in school today? Are you guys on holiday?" She asked.
• “Yeah something like that."
• “You think I am a fool right? Your mum has told me everything." She said,
• “So why are you asking me then?" I rolled my eyes at her.
• “Hmmmm, you, this small boy, is already causing trouble in school because of a girl." She said,
• I was like who is this one calling a small boy, but I don't have time to argue, so I just let her keep running her mouth..
• “Is the girl even beautiful?" She asked and I stared at her.
• “Of course she is."
• “Is she as beautiful as me?"
• Felicia has this delusion that she is the most beautiful girl in the world but I am about to break her wings.
• “She is 10 times prettier than you if not 100 times!"
• This made her really angry and she chased me around the whole house with her slappers wanting to beat me with it. During that period my phone had been ringing without me knowing. I had to tell Felicia I was joking before she stop chasing me. When I got back to my seat I saw 12 missed calls from Ayo.
• Wow! That many. I wanted to call him back but decided not to. let him suffer one more week.
• Just then someone knocked on the door. It was one of my cousin's boyfriends, but this time I was determined to spoil their fun. My cousin was happy seeing her boyfriend. They hugged and kissed all this while I just sat on the chair with my face fixed on the TV as if I was watching something interesting. I know Felicia will try a way to get me out of the house, and about 10 minutes later she called for my attention.
• “Chris, I would like you to help me buy food for my guest." She said,
• With a straight face, “Sorry but I can't go. I am watching this movie but there are soft drinks in the fridge and Indomie you can cook for him if he is hungry."
• My cousin tried her best to convince me to leave the house, with different excuses but I kept refusing, later she gave up and after an hour her boyfriend stood up said he was going, the sound of his voice show he was disappointed he didn't get what he wanted, and he gave me that look like THIS STUPID BOY DONE SPOIL SHOW which almost made me laugh, I felt pity for him but my house is not a motel.
• After she walked her boyfriend out I quickly went to my room and locked the door cause I knew my cousin would try to kill me for spoiling her show. When she came back and didn't see me in the sitting room, she kept shouting my name all over the house, she tried to open my room but couldn't, I just kept laughing quietly.
• After 3 hours I came out of my room causeI knew she would have cooled down by now and my parents will soon be back from work....
• TWO WEEKS PAST.
• My suspension was over but something unexpected had happened, something that would change my life forever.
