Chapter 5

• Tuesday morning.
• There was something about this morning the sky is not as bright as it should be this should be 6:00 am but everywhere is still dark, I check outside my window and outside was just as dark as the inside, I quickly turned on the lights in my room to check what's say the time on the wall clock.... But to my surprise it was only 1:00 am!
• I haven't slept at all, how could I sleep? when I was having nightmares about Sandra.
• There was one where she was flogging me with her father's cane. Mehn that was horrible, there is no way I can sleep again. I have to just stay awake till 6 am before taking my bath....
• The time passed slowly but finally it was 6 AM, I quickly went to take my shower, had breakfast and then rushed off to school.
• Due to hectic traffic on the road I didn't reach school on time I barely made it for assembly, I kept wishing no one had told Sandra any thing, when I finally got to school the prefects had already arranged students for the morning assembly and some students where running to the assembly hall I went straight to where my classmates were.
• “Hello James, have you seen sandra?"
• “Yeah, I saw her talking to Emeka a while ago, but I don't know where she is now."
• “Talking to Emeka??!!" I panicked.
• I'm too late for sure she must hate me by now, or maybe he said nothing to her? Maybe they just had a normal talk? I kept giving myself hope.
• I tried to reach Emaka but he was in the front of the line, and I didn't want to be caught by the prefects. I looked around for Sandra but she wasn't in the assembly ground...... where might she be? She is not in our line nor in any line in the assembly.
• The morning assembly went on normally but there was no sign of Sandra till the principal came up to the platform and made an announcement about the upcoming inter-house sport and this made all the students shout on top of their voice in excitement. Usually I should be among the screaming students cus I so much love inter house sport activities cus is a time where I show my great athlete skills, but I had no interest in that now because all that was on my mind was Sandra.
• Finally I saw her coming out of the female toilet. I could tell she had been crying, two of my female classmates were with her including Jessica. This is the end of me for sure. The three of them came to the line and my eyes and Sandra's met. I could see the tears dripping from her eyes. I could not bear to look at her so I put my face down.
• The assembly was over and we all went to our various classes. I have to explain myself to Sandra.
• ”S..Sandra please can we talk." I said with cracked voice
• Sandra: Leave me alone, I don't want to see you, I hate you so much.
• She said and her tears were uncontrollable. She kept shouting and I had to leave her cus it was becoming quite a scene, my classmates all gathered around me and Sandra taking the lead was Emeka.
• “Leave her alone, haven't you cus enough harm already? She is crying for God sake!"
• “You! what have you done, you always go and spoil things. Don't you?"
• “I only told her your devilish plan of hurting her, cus I care about her and I am not a big pretender like you."
• I lost it completely, I gave Emeka a big right hand punch and we got into a fight, exchanging blows. My classmates tried to separate us but we still kept on exchanging blows. The news that we were fighting had spread to the whole school, which caused my juniors All rushing upstairs to my class to watch us fight.
• They kept chanting Fight!! Fight!! Fight!!. Teachers heard about the fight also and up they came rushing towards my class which made my juniors all run away to their various classes.
• “What's going on here?!!"
• With the shout of Mr President came back our senses, we stopped fighting and only now did I realize that I am about to get in a whole lot of trouble. There are strict rules about fighting in my school and this could lead to me being expelled. What have I done? What has love made me do?
• “You this boy! I always knew you were good for nothing, come with me and you too Emeka."
• He barked at us then took us to his office where he gave us each 15 lashes of cane and after that gave us punishment to do. For some reason I didn't scream or cry when I received the cane unlike Emeka who ran out of the office screaming and crying, maybe because there is a lot on my mind? or maybe because I know I have lost Sandra for good? Or probably because I know this is just the beginning of my punishment.
• After 30 minutes of frog jumping, we were taken to the principal's office where he tried to find out the reason for our fight. My principal is a very fat man, who literally does nothing , he usually seats in his office while his vice principals does all the school work, but when it comes to cases like fighting he likes to handle it himself, because he knows this will lead to parents coming whereby he can receive money cus the parents won't want their child to be expelled, and will have to bribe him.
• He asked us our reason for fighting. I said Emeka told lies about me, but what I heard from Emeka's mouth made my heart stop beating for a while.
• “Sir, I only discovered a devilish plan that Chris had for Mr Uche (Mr President) and his daughter, he was planning to take Sandra out and rape her with some group of boys he also planned to film the rape and then send the video online so that everyone could watch. I had to tell Sandra cus I don't want her to get hurt."
• I couldn't believe my ears.
• My God! Is this what Emaka told Sandra? That's Why she hates me so much. I always knew Emeka had a way of making something which was already bad worse. But I didn't know he could go this far!
