Chapter 39
- It pained me deeply to see Funke hurting like that, I never imagined our first meeting after over 3 years would end up like this. I kept having poignant flashbacks of the cherished memories I shared with her, as I took my solitary shower in the bathroom... I couldn't help but smile as I reminisced about the time I courageously carried her across the flooded street, her fear melting away in my protective presence. She called me her gallant hero back then, but now I fear I have transformed from hero to zero.
- Emerging from the bathroom, clad only in a towel tightly wrapped around my waist, I swiftly adorned my clothes, just as my phone shrilly interrupted the silence, jolting me from my ruminations. I checked the caller ID, and to my surprise, it was Emeka. What could he possibly want? Well, I shall discover his intentions tomorrow at school, for I refuse to answer his call. With a flurry of activity, I continued to dress, my phone persistently ringing, its melodic disturbance echoing through the room.
- Eventually, I left the incessantly ringing phone on the bed and made my way to the sitting room, where Felicia sat engrossed in watching some music videos. As soon as she noticed my entrance, she promptly lowered the volume of the television, a telltale sign that she harbored unexpressed thoughts.
