Chapter 8 Acting Foolishly Without a Second Thought
- Summer let out a startled cry, "This isn’t good! Someone’s coming! Quick, follow me inside. I can find a place for you to hide." Without hesitation, she hurriedly shoved the man into the master bedroom, closing the door behind them. "I think that’s my husband," she muttered, clearly rattled, as she anxiously scanned the room and eyed the man in front of her. Without wasting a moment, she dashed to the wardrobe and commanded urgently, "Quick, get inside! My husband is a cold-blooded killer who won’t hesitate to tear you apart if he learns what you’ve done. I, however, am compassionate and hate violence, so I'll protect you by hiding you here. But you have to swear you won’t silence me after this."
- I still needed to rescue Mom. I couldn’t let myself fall victim to this killer. Ferdinand was left at a loss for words. Did she really have the nerve to hide a man in our master bedroom without a second thought? Before he had the chance to speak, she shoved him straight into the wardrobe. Summer had already thought things through. Realizing the wardrobe could be locked from the outside, her plan was to trap him in there and hand him, a murderer, over to the authorities.
- However, unbeknownst to her, Ferdinand had already figured out her scheme. As soon as he stepped inside, he swiftly grabbed her and yanked her inside with him! She was completely unprepared, and she tumbled right into his embrace. Immediately, the air around her was thick with his intoxicating scent, a wave of masculinity overwhelming her senses. Her palms rested against his firm chest, and she could distinctly feel the strong beat of his heart and toned muscles. For a brief moment, a surge of panic washed over her—I’m a married woman, how could I allow myself to be this close to another man? In a hurry, she pulled herself up and straightened her posture.
- With her plan now in ruins, Summer feigned concern and cautioned him, "You must stay quiet. You’re a murderer, and if anyone discovers you, it’ll be the end for you." At that moment, a voice called from the doorway. "Ferd, are you awake?" Ferd? Was that referring to Ferdinand? Her heart raced at the thought! She had spent the entire day waiting in the master bedroom, yet Ferdinand hadn’t shown up. What should I do now? "Ferd, if you’re still awake, I’m about to come in."
- Summer quickly responded, "Please don’t enter, we’re already asleep!" She knew all too well that if the elderly woman entered, it would be game over. But just as her words left her lips, a deep, smooth voice resonated from the wardrobe behind her. "Grandma, we’re already in bed. Please don’t come in." Grandma? He addressed her as Grandma? Could he be Ferdinand? In that instant, Summer was completely bewildered, wishing she could just pass out right there!
- She heard a voice ask, "Ferd, is something wrong with your voice? Are you feeling unwell?" Ferdinand stepped out from the wardrobe with an unhurried demeanor. His piercing gaze focused on Summer. With an air of calm, he reassured, "Grandma, there’s nothing wrong with me. You should head back and get some rest!" Hearing this, Agatha felt completely at ease. With a cheerful tone, she said, "That’s great, as long as you’re both fine. Make sure to get some rest. I won’t disturb you any longer. I’ll be looking forward to your morning tea tomorrow." Ferdinand’s responses were curt and to the point. "Sure." Before long, silence returned outside the door, and the room felt eerily quiet.
- In the meantime, Summer kept her head down like a frightened little mouse, too apprehensive to voice out. I could hardly believe that the killer I had stumbled upon was Ferdinand! And here I am, acting foolishly and trying to show off my wits in front of him, even going so far as to speak poorly of him without a second thought!
