Chapter 11 How Dare You Refuse My People In
- Ferdinand’s expression made it clear that Brandon was testing boundaries. However, Brandon knew all too well how his elder brother could not be trifled with. Outwardly, he acted submissive and pretended to follow Ferdinand’s lead, but beneath that façade lay deep-seated resentment. He had set up numerous covert schemes against him! Taking advantage of his intoxicated state, Brandon purposely ignored the ominous look on Ferdinand’s face, putting on an air of naivety.
- "Ferdinand," he began with feigned innocence, "I know it’s rude to say this, but Grandma mentioned how well-suited you and your bride are, both marked by the same ominous fate. So, I just had to come by and see for myself which one of you might end up outlasting the other." His words held a sharp edge, almost like a curse, enough to make anyone’s skin crawl. Ferdinand caught the full intent behind his comments. In his narrowed gaze lay a simmering, dangerous glint. A subtle, icy smile played on his thin lips. "Care to guess?" he asked.
- Brandon, swaying in his drunkenness, shook his head. "Hard to say. After all, two wives have already preceded her." He stressed the words 'two wives,' clearly for Summer’s benefit. Then he let out a mocking laugh, adding, "Even if the third wife is resilient, she’d better have nerves of steel. You never know what might happen!" Summer was unfamiliar with Brandon and had no idea what issues lay between him and Ferdinand. All she could sense from his words was that he wasn't the kind to be taken lightly.
