Chapter 356 Between a Rock and a Hard Place
- Robert was gone, but someone had to handle Mother's funeral, so Shawn left two minutes later. I stood before the castle gates, still thinking about Robert. He looked so sad when he left. I didn't want to wander out alone, so I went down the street to look for him, but he was nowhere to be found. Worried, I looked everywhere I could. Finally, I found him in another nearby street. He was plopped on a bench, the ground around him covered in parasol leaves. The air around him felt laden with sorrow while the cold raindrops fell on him mercilessly.
- He was the embodiment of sorrow, that Robert. Or at least that was how I felt. He hung his head low, not even defending himself from the rain, so I held my umbrella over him. My shoulder was drenched, but it was okay. Robert realized he wasn't getting drenched anymore, and he raised his head. His eyes glistened with tears, but he was calm. "What brings you here, Renee?"
- My heart went out to him, but he needed no sympathy from me, just like how Eilam refused my offer to help. I fell silent for a moment, then I answered, "I didn't want to leave you out in the rain."
