Chapter 11 Drunk

  • Daphne's fingers tightened and then relaxed.
  • Dealing with Hugo and Mabel's false sincerity left Daphne feeling powerless and frustrated.
  • In this moment, she couldn't devise a solution that would benefit everyone, avoiding marriage and preventing her grandfather from reclaiming the house.
  • Suddenly, her phone rang.
  • She retrieved it from her pocket and saw her grandfather's name flashing on the screen.
  • After a brief hesitation, she answered, greeted by Carsen's angry voice.
  • "You've really outdone yourself, Daphne! You've somehow convinced Shaun to call off the marriage. Quite impressive."
  • The Bensons had initiated the cancellation of the marriage.
  • Daphne's heart raced. How could this be happening?
  • Did this mean she wouldn't have to marry that fool?
  • A grin spread across Daphne's face. This was incredible! Perhaps the Bensons deemed her status too low.
  • Despite Magnus's foolishness, they still valued social standing.
  • Daphne's spirits lifted, thankful for this stroke of luck!
  • As for Carsen's barrage of verbal abuse over the phone, she let him rant.
  • "Daphne, are you even paying attention?" Carsen's voice grew louder, with no response from her end.
  • "I'm busy. That's all."
  • Daphne replied curtly before ending the call.
  • Carsen was left speechless.
  • After concluding the call, Daphne rose from her seat with a smile. "Cousins, I have some good news to share. The union with the Bensons has ended. I'll head home after work. Farewell."
  • Hugo's eyes widened in astonishment. What? Is the marriage canceled?
  • "How is that possible?" he muttered to himself.
  • "Mabel, please go ahead and dock my pay. I resign. I refuse to believe I can't find a job in Northbury."
  • Daphne declared it firmly. She was resolute about leaving the family company. It was bound to happen sooner or later, and with the marriage canceled, it seemed like the right time.
  • Daphne refused to believe her family would blacklist her due to the vastness of Northbury.
  • With her head held high, Daphne exited the office.
  • "Daphne, wait ... " Mabel started, caught off guard.
  • As Daphne prepared to ride her electric bike home, she noticed several cars swiftly approaching.
  • Men emerged from the vehicles one by one.
  • "Hurry! Move!"
  • In an instant,
  • they encircled Daphne.
  • Daphne was perplexed. Her mind went blank. Who were these individuals? She didn't recognize any of them.
  • Shortly after, another man emerged from one of the cars.
  • "Mr. Shaun."
  • Hugo and Mabel also noticed Shaun and his family's arrival, hurrying to greet them.
  • What was going on?
  • "Mr. Shaun, have you come to settle the score with Daphne?"
  • Mabel was excited. This was incredible news. Carsen had mentioned that, for some reason, the Bensons had called off the marriage. It was a relief to see them approaching with such determination to confront Daphne.
  • Mabel exclaimed cheerfully, "Mr. Shaun, please spare Daphne. She can be quite obstinate."
  • Hugo interjected loudly, "Security shouldn't intervene. This is a private family matter concerning the Bensons."
  • The security guards from the Lewis Group remained motionless upon receiving the command.
  • Daphne's heart raced as she watched Shaun approach, her breaths uneven.
  • "Ms. Lewis, we deeply regret our past actions and sincerely apologize. Please accept this as a token of our remorse."
  • Shaun approached Daphne, holding out a check.
  • He implored, bowing respectfully.
  • "Please forgive us, Ms. Lewis."
  • His plea was echoed by the Bensons.
  • The unexpected turn of events left Hugo and Mabel speechless.
  • The security guards from the Lewis group stood in disbelief.
  • "Mr. Shaun, have you been drinking?"
  • Mabel's eyes widened in astonishment. What's going on?
  • Shaun was a wealthy tycoon, but his offering an apology to Daphne seemed unfathomable.
  • "Mr. Shaun, are you seriously considering apologizing to someone of Daphne's status?" Hugo's disbelief was evident in his tone.
  • Shaun's response was swift—a resounding slap across Hugo's face. "Do you dare to mock me?" he rebuked sharply.
  • Hugo covered his face. His mind struggled to process the unexpected turn of events.
  • Daphne, too, found herself bewildered by the unfolding situation.
  • "Ms. Lewis, I beg for your forgiveness," Shaun implored, dismissing the opinions of others. His sole focus was on gaining Daphne's pardon.
  • Failure to do so would spell disaster for his family.
  • Daphne felt as though she were in a surreal dream. The Bensons had called off the marriage, yet here they were, offering apologies and even a check.
  • "Mr. Shaun, what is the meaning of all this?" Daphne questioned, her surprise was evident. "Are you sure you haven't had a drink or two?"
  • "We're completely sober, Ms. Lewis. My son wasn't up to your standards, so we've come to apologize."
  • Shaun wore a genuine smile as he spoke. "If you decline to forgive us, I'm willing to kneel."
  • He was clearly prepared to kneel down as he spoke.
  • "Mr. Shaun, there's no need for such a grand gesture," Daphne interrupted, sensing Shaun's sincerity despite her bewilderment.
  • "Thank you, Ms. Lewis. Please consider this a token of our sincerity," Shaun persisted.
  • Daphne took a deep breath as she beheld the 750 thousand check.
  • Mr. Shaun, I can't accept this. She hesitated. "It's too generous." Despite her fondness for money, she couldn't allow herself to take advantage of the situation.
  • "If you decline, he might kneel again. It's a genuine gesture."
  • Maxwell interjected suddenly.
  • All eyes were on the handsome man approaching them.
