Chapter 2 Be Single Again
- Avery was both surprised and confused, because she had never known that Ethan had other women in his life.
- Ethan spoke gently to the woman on the other end of the line for a few moments, then hung up. Turning to Avery with an icy tone, he said, “I’m getting married. We shouldn’t see each other anymore.”
- “You’re getting married?”
- Avery looked at him, her surprise turning to a hint of disappointment as she straightened up. “Was that your future wife who just called you?”
- “Yeah,” Ethan admitted, meeting her gaze. “This black card is your compensation.”
- “Alright then.” Avery shrugged. “Guess our arrangement ends here.”
- Ethan hadn’t expected her to agree so easily, as though everything—every moment of joy and passion between them over the past year—had been nothing but a lie. That thought darkened his eyes.
- Avery took the black card and quickly stood up to get dressed. Once she was ready, she walked over to him and kissed him lightly on the cheek. “Daddy, this is the last time I’ll call you that.”
- Seeing that Avery wasn’t the slightest bit reluctant, and appeared almost pleased, Ethan stepped back, avoiding her outstretched arms.
- “Little Bunny, we’ll never meet again.”
- He turned away, not wanting to look at her anymore.
- “Not even a goodbye kiss?” Avery teased, watching his back with a playful tone.
- In the past, after they’d spent the night together, Ethan would always leave a soft kiss on her forehead.
- After a brief hesitation, Ethan turned around and placed one final kiss on her forehead.
- Avery smiled faintly at him. “Guess I’ll be looking for a new daddy now.”
- At her words, Ethan’s eyes flashed with a hint of anger, though it was barely perceptible.
- But Avery didn’t notice his expression. She quickly stuffed the black card into her bag, grabbed her car keys, and headed toward the door.
- Opening the door to her pink Porsche Panamera, she slipped into the seat and slammed the gas pedal to the floor. The car shot forward like a rocket.
- Speeding down the dark highway, Avery felt like she was in an adrenaline-fueled racing game, weaving through the night at top speed.
- Avery’s carefree nature had always led her to embrace everything that felt free and bold—like rock music. She loved the feeling of losing herself completely in the rhythm.
- She played a classic rock song and hummed along as her hands tapped out the beat on the steering wheel.
- Her relationship with Ethan was much like the energetic, rebellious rhythm of the music—intense when they were in love, but just as easily forgotten once it was over.
- She didn’t want to be a woman bound by love or emotions; she wanted to shine brightly on her own in this world.
- Back home, Avery lay in bed, but her mind kept drifting back to the image of a dark figure.
- He wore a custom suit, his movements forceful and passionate, yet afterward, he would hold her close, calling her “Little Bunny” and placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
- But that would probably never happen again.
- With that thought, Avery found herself unable to sleep. She got up and went to the balcony, staring out at the hazy moonlight, lost in thought.
- At least before he left, Ethan hadn’t treated her unfairly. That limited-edition black card likely held billions, enough for her to live a life of luxury for the rest of her days.
- It had been two full months since Ethan said he was getting married, and Avery had completely moved on from him.
- With the hot weather, Avery decided to sign up for a tour to Antarctica, embarking on an adventure to the ends of the Earth.
- She saw real penguins, witnessed glaciers that had been frozen for millennia, marveled at the vast Atlantic Ocean, and gazed at the breathtaking northern lights.
- After returning from Antarctica, she didn’t waste time. She went straight to a tropical island to relax, playing on the beach with friends, swimming in the sea, and frolicking with the underwater fish.
- Two months later, Avery returned to her life as a single woman.
- Avery loved both the hustle and bustle of life and the stillness of the night, so she used the money she made after graduation to open a bar called “Rock & the Night.”
- With its unique décor and music taste, the bar attracted a young crowd.
- As the fame of “Rock & the Night” grew, Avery opened several more branches, naming them “Night Rose,” “Rock Vampire,” and “Burning the Night.”
- She also formed a band to perform at her bar, with herself as the drummer.
- One morning, just as she was about to go to her bar to rehearse for the night’s performance, she suddenly received a text message.
- When she saw the name on the screen, Avery’s eyes widened in surprise, and she immediately called the number.
- “Baby, is it tonight?”
