Chapter 7 A Truce? Or Not?
- VINCENT
- "What did you just say?" I demanded, glaring daggers at the omega standing in front of me. She had paled to an alarming extent, her hand covering her mouth. If I wasn't in a foul mood, I would have reacted in a less hostile manner. I knew that I was goodlooking. Infact, I'd gotten used to the stares the female species throw at me, but no one had ever complimented me in such a fierce manner. Let me tell you, it takes guts.
- "I-I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking. I didn't mean to blurt out such rubbish" she said, lowering her head. I could smell her fear.
- "Why were you eavesdropping?" I asked and she shook her head.
- "You must be mistaken. I didn't eavesdrop. I came here to see you, but-"
- "You heard something, didn't you?" I cut her off.
- She raised her head.
- "Yes, I did. But, it was accidental, I swear!" She said, her eyes wide with panic.
- Frustrated, I pinched the bridge of my nostrils and stepped aside from the entrance of my study. She threw me a questioning stare.
- "Go. In" I said, through gritted teeth.
- "But-"
- "I've heard enough of your buts! Just go in while I'm asking nicely!" I snapped and she flinched.
- "Oh, okay" she mumbled and walked into my study with small, hesitant strides.
- "She knows. What are you going to do about it?" Jared asked me, his brows furrowed in concern.
- My fingers curled as I grew more agitated.
- "I'll handle it. You can go now" I said and he nodded.
- I let out an exhale, knowing that my temper might get out of hand once I stepped into my study.
- "Stay calm. Don't lose your shit. She isn't worth it" I breathed.
- When I walked into my study, I found the omega standing by my desk, her small frame as stiff as a brick. Her flowery scent flooded my senses and I clenched my fists.
- "What exactly did you hear?" I questioned as I lowered myself on my seat.
- "You were mad about a threat letter" she said and I glared at her.
- "And... apparently, you're a vampire-werewolf hybrid. I find it difficult to believe, though. Nothing about you gives any hint that you're part vampire" she said with a small voice. She was looking at anywhere but me.
- "Look at me" I said and she swallowed hard. When her gaze met mine, she stiffened.
- "Your eyes..." She gasped.
- "My fangs are unique too. I can kill you with a bite" I deadpanned.
- "I'm sorry.. I..."
- "This is my secret and you know it now. No one must hear it from you, do you understand?" I said.
- "You want me to keep your secret. But, I'm just a slave. You shouldn't trust me"
- "That's true. I can as well kill you. There's always an option" I pointed out.
- "No one will miss me, anyway. I have nothing to lose" she said with a shaky voice.
- The fact that she didn't care about anything didn't sit well with me. Killing her would be a waste of time.
- "Fine. What do you want in return for keeping my secret?" I asked and her eyes brightened.
- "The bullies. I want them punished"
- I raised a brow, surprised. I had expected her to ask me to free her or announce to the pack that she was no longer a slave.
- "Even if I have to suffer for the rest of my life, I'm done being a toy to bullies. I'm a lowly omega, I know that quite well. Can't I at least get a break from bullies?" She rasped.
- "That's all you want?" I probed.
- "I can't ask you to free me. That will be a disadvantage to me" she muttered.
- She had a point there. If I freed her, she would once again end up in the net of the town's werewolf council.
- "Fine. Do you know their names? If you don't know their names, there's nothing I can do about it" I said.
- "Amy.... she has green eyes and blond hair. Stephanie... she's a brunette with blue eyes...Mia.... she's really tall. She has black hair and blue eyes. That's all I know"
- "Fine. You can go" I said.
- She walked towards the door.
- "I'll keep your secret, Alpha Vincent. I don't go back on my word" she said and left my study.
- Was I convinced that she was really going to keep my secret? No. I've always had trust issues. It was one of the reasons why I had a lot of secrets.
- ...
- I left my study and decided to take a walk to clear my head. I used the opportunity to watch Noah, the pack's Delta as he trained the sentinels. While I walked, I heard Ava's voice. My feet came to a halt when I heard the omega's voice as well.
- "He's not as bad as I thought he is" she said and I almost scoffed. It was clear that she didn't know me as well as my pack members did.
- "My brother is a big bad wolf who hides his emotions all the time. He's cold on the outside but is lonely as well. He just doesn't let himself see it" Ava said.
- "What about your parents?" the omega asked.
- I clenched my fists in annoyance. Why wouldn't she stop probing into my business?
- "Our parents died a long time ago. They were murdered, but their murderer was never found"
- "Oh... I'm so sorry"
- "My brother was thirteen years old at the time. He was traumatized by our parents death. Ever since then, he changed"
- Pissed, I stormed off. I couldn't stand the way Ava had poured everything out. I hated it. I didn't want to be pitied. I didn't want anyone's sympathy, especially not the omega's.
- ...
- Two hours later, I was feeling restless about my decision to let the omega keep my secret. I felt that the chances of her spilling it would be lesser if I made sure she wasn't out of my sight. I was also worried that the more she spent time with my sister, the more she would treat me like a wounded puppy. The thought of it sickened me.
- So, I asked Jared to ask the omega to move in to my quarters. She took the spare room and settled down there without asking questions. The door to my study opened and Ava walked in.
- "Are you kidding me? What are you doing, Vince? Why are you keeping my new friend all to yourself. I know she's pretty and all, but you should control yourself" she said.
- I paid her no attention and continued to work.
- "Vince! Where is she? Is she in your quarters?"
- "Ava, I'm in no mood for your shenanigans. Now, get out" I droned.
- "Fine, be like that. I'll go to your room to look for her" she said, wriggling her brows at me.
- "Get your mind out of the gutter, Ava. The last thing I want to do is touch her"
- Ava scoffed.
- "You are so boring. You're just in denial"
- I glared at her and she froze.
- "You know what? I'll just leave. You're clearly PMSing" she said and rushed out of my office.
- The only reason the bitch was still alive was because there was a part of me that had a soft spot for her and her bitchiness. She was the opposite of me. Maybe that was why.
- A few minutes after Ava had left, there was a knock on the door.
- "Come in" I said.
- Colton, Jared's second in command stepped in. By the look on his face, I could tell that something had happened.
- "What is it?" I asked, leaning back on my seat.
- "A young girl who goes by the name 'Roselyn Acker', went missing two days ago" he told me when he got to my desk.
- "And?"
- "Pack members said the last person they saw her talking to... is the slave"
- "What?"
- "They said she went missing right after that"
- "So, what you're trying to say is that the young girl was kidnapped by the slave"
- "Yes, Alpha. Her parents are demanding for an investigation" Noah said and I sighed.
- It was apparent that Rylee had bad luck. She must have done something terrible in her past life. Either way, I was the Alpha and I needed to make sure I fixed things.
- "Ask the pack members to gather at the hall for a meeting" I said and he nodded.
- "I'll take my leave now" he said and walked out of my office, shutting the door behind him.
- After a few minutes, I rose to my feet and left my study. At the hall, my pack members were gathered. Jared stood with the pack's Gamma and Delta, a blank look on his face.
- Rylee was standing in front of them, a confused look on her face. Her hands were bound. When her gaze met mine, relief crossed her facial features. I didn't feel sorry for her.
- "She kidnapped my daughter!" A woman who was being held by some of the pack members yelled.
- "That's enough! Alpha Vincent has arrived" Jared said and she went quiet.
- Rylee's pleading gaze met mine, her eyes turning glassy.
- "Rylee Shaw, you have been summoned by the Crystal River Pack officials and have been accused of kidnapping Roselyn Acker. What do you have to say about this?" I asked and color drained from her face, her knees buckling.
