Chapter 6 An Accidental Discovery

  • RYLEE
  • 'Mate!' Sky, my wolf said and my jaw dropped as I continued to stare at Alpha Vincent. His scent was that of the earth, right after a rainstorm. I was stupefied by the fact that he was my mate. Chills crawled down my spine and my heart pounded frantically.
  • "What?" His cold voice snapped me out of my stupor.
  • "I-I-"
  • He strode towards me and grabbed me by the forearm. Then, he dragged me towards the door, his nails digging into my skin. He pushed me to the ground and glowered at me.
  • "Get out!" He roared. His eyes had turned red and there was a golden ring around his iris. I had never seen anyone with such unique eyes.
  • I stumbled to my feet, knowing that he could really hurt me if I remained anywhere around him. I took off in the direction of my new room.
  • On getting there, I locked the door and sat down on the floor, with my back to the door. My limbs were trembling. I didn't know if it was as a result of fear or shock. Come to think of it, I didn't even know the actual reason why Alpha Vincent had flipped out. Was it because I'd trespassed into his room or did he realize that he was my mate? I didn't know what to think.
  • Fate was definitely playing tricks on me. How on Earth was I getting a new mate, especially after loosing my mate less than a month ago?
  • Letting out a sigh, I laid down on the bed. I still couldn't believe that Alpha Vincent was my mate. I was in denial. There was absolutely no way he would want to make me his Luna. Nothing made sense to me anymore. My eyelids grew heavy as my thoughts threatened to swallow me whole. Goosebumps appeared on my skin as the cold seeped into my bones. I wanted to shift, but it had been so long since I shifted. I closed my eyes and soon, sleep whisked me away.
  • ...
  • I was too hot. I felt trapped and my breathing was laboured.
  • "Help me! Help!" I screamed until my voice went hoarse.
  • I didn't know where I was because it was too dark.
  • Sweat dribbled down the sides of my face, my damp hair sticking to my skin. I struggled to move, but nothing was working. I started to scream and cry. I was still trapped in what seemed to be a box.
  • I was going to die. I could feel it. This made my panic to soar to a whole different level. I couldn't feel the pain from my stab wound. Maybe I was in shock. I let out a scream of pain when I suddenly burst into flames.
  • "I'll kill you! I'll kill you, I promise!" I cried as the sickening smell of burning flesh drifted into my nostrils.
  • ...
  • Letting out a cry, I awoke with a start, my heart feeling like it was going to jump out of my chest. I dragged in air into my lungs, my cheeks damp with tears. My dream had felt so real. At this point, I could feel the pain of a stab wound in my stomach. I swallowed hard, clutching at my aching stomach as I curled into a ball.
  • The knock on the door startled me.
  • "It's me, Ava"
  • Gritting my teeth against the pain, I rose to my feet and opened the door. Ava walked in with a smile on her face.
  • "Hey, you" she said and I forced out a smile.
  • "Your black eye looks like it hurts a lot" she pointed out, a sympathetic look on her face.
  • "I'm fine, really" I told her and she sighed.
  • "No, you're not. This room is so cold. You don't even have warm clothes" Ava said.
  • "It's not that cold" I said and she glared at me.
  • "You're shivering. I'll get you some warm clothes"
  • "You don't have to" I mumbled.
  • She grinned.
  • "I want to. Come with me" she said, taking my hand in hers. Before I could protest, she'd dragged me out of my room. We got to the main pack house and she led me into what seemed to be the room she shared with her twin sister.
  • Emma was sitting on the bed, tapping away at the screen of her phone. She glared daggers at me when we walked in.
  • "Ava, you shouldn't bring her in here" Emma said and Ava rolled her eyes.
  • "Too late, Emma. She's here already"
  • "For goodness sake, she was exiled. You don't know what she's thinking or what she plans to do. We don't know the whole truth about her" Emma said, still glaring daggers at me. I wanted to leave, but Ava wouldn't have it. She made me sit on a chair. Then, she went to her closet and started to bring out some clothes. A scream tore through the air and we all froze.
  • "What was that?" I breathed and Emma rose to her feet. Ava's worried gaze met mine.
  • "Something is happening outside. Let's go" Ava said and I followed her out of the room. We heard the scream again and I flinched.
  • "It's coming from the field" Ava said and started to run. I followed after her even though I was at a loss of what to do.
  • When we got to the field, there were several pack members gathered at the spot. Ava grabbed my hand and started to push her way through the small crowd.
  • Alpha Vincent was standing in the center of the crowd and a young man with blond hair was kneeling in front of him, covered in bruises and lacerations. Jared was standing beside the Alpha, a cold look in his eyes. Until this moment, I'd never seen that expression on Jared's face. He looked disgusted and pissed. Alpha Vincent didn't look angry. Pokerfaced, he just stared at the young man.
  • "Forgive me. It was my mistake. I wasn't thinking right. Please, spare my life, Alpha" the young man cried.
  • "So, you want me to spare your life despite the fact that you raped a pack member and ran away in order to escape punishment. Guess what. That young girl you raped killed herself. Shouldn't you take responsibility for that?"
  • My stomach turned to lead and whatever pity I'd felt for the young man, vanished.
  • He was mumbling to himself and was weeping like a child. Alpha Vincent grabbed him by the neck, his extended claws digging into his skin.
  • "That young girl was only fourteen, you bastard" he spat, still pokerfaced.
  • There was something dangerous about Alpha Vincent looking so calm and pokerfaced.
  • "You know very well that I don't approve of such vile acts, Ambrose"
  • "I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. Please forgive me"
  • "Forgive you? You disgust me"
  • It was scary how he still didn't have a frown on his face. His blue eyes had turned red and 'Ambrose' was trembling with fear.
  • "Are you afraid? You shouldn't be. I'm not going to hurt you"
  • As soon as he said that, the tension in the air doubled up. The silence was deafening.
  • "I will break you"
  • Chills crawled down my spine and goosebumps appeared on my skin at the sound of those intimidating words. I realized that the chances of him rejecting me was closer to a hundred percent.
  • Before we could blink, he had pulled out Ambrose's eyes from their sockets. Screams tore through the air as he writhed on the ground.
  • Alpha Vincent was clearly not finished with him. He grabbed him by the arm and with one tug, there was a resounding crack sound that elicited a hoarse scream from Ambrose's lips. He didn't stop until he'd broken Ambrose's limbs. It was a miracle he was still breathing.
  • "Finish him off, Jared" Alpha Vincent said and turned away.
  • Jared quietly dragged Ambrose's broken body away. Then, Alpha Vincent began to address us.
  • "It's the same for everyone. You know the rules. There will be consequences if you break them. Make good choices" he said and walked away.
  • I stood there, dazed. The problem was, I didn't know the rules. What if I ended up breaking it? Would he kill me too?
  • "What's on your mind?" Ava asked me and I shook my head.
  • "You must be shaken up. Don't worry, you'll get used to it. My brother has always been like this. It's why our pack is one of the most feared packs in town. My brother might be cold and ruthless, but he knows how to take care of his pack. That's what really matters" Ava said.
  • "Ava?" I said.
  • "Hmm? It's the first time you're calling my name" she said.
  • "I want to talk to your brother. Now is a bad time, right?"
  • Ava shrugged.
  • "He's not really angry. He's just indifferent"
  • ...
  • Few minutes later, I was standing in front of the door to his study. Stupid, right?
  • Taking a deep breath, I raised my fist to knock on the door.
  • "No, we're the only ones who know that you're a werewolf-vampire hybrid" those words stopped me in my tracks, my fist hanging midair.
  • "Then, who the hell sent me this threat letter?!" Alpha Vincent roared and I flinched.
  • "Who's there?"
  • At this point, I was convinced that I had an ill luck. The door was jerked open and there stood Alpha Vincent, his eyes blazing red. Shivers ran down my spine when our gazes met. His dark brows were furrowed, his raven shoulder length hair messy, probably from all the times he'd run his fingers through the strands. He towered over me in such an intimidating manner.
  • Despite all of this, all I could think was the fact that he was the hottest male I'd ever set my eyes on. My brain and mind had been malfunctioning, thanks to ny misfortune. It was in this moment, that I stupidly uttered the five words I had never said in my entire life.
  • "You are hot as fuck"
  • Alpha Vincent's brows rose, confusion written all over his face. On the other hand, Jared who was standing behind him couldn't hide his amusement.
  • "What did you just say?" He demanded and I paled, bringing a hand to my mouth.
