Chapter 6 Forward

  • AURORA’S POV.
  • A knock sounded on the door, and it was pushed open; I turned around to look and watched him walk in.
  • “You set? We have to leave now.” He said, and I nodded firmly. I was dressed and ready for my new job.
  • “I just need to adjust my lipstick. It looks like a mess. I don’t want to show up at work looking like a character from a horror movie.” I joked and turned back to stare at my reflection in the mirror, my thumb going over my lips to blend up the excess ones.
  • I heard him laugh softly.
  • “Horror movie or not. You look good in almost everything.” He complimented.
  • A smile curled up my lips.
  • “That’s sweet. My best friend decided to compliment me. Awnnn!.” I played and chuckled softly.
  • His compliment was still running through my mind. It warmed my heart to know that he thought of me as beautiful. Maybe it would have been more beautiful if he had seen me more than a friend. Suppose he said these words from a heart filled with love for me.
  • “It’s enough. Don’t tell me you plan on taking hours to get dressed.” He joked and tutted softly.
  • I dropped the lipstick back on the table and turned to look at him. I shrugged my shoulders gently.
  • “You know how females can be.” I joked with a smile still plastered on my face.
  • I loved him. I loved him so much that I wished he knew how I felt.
  • “Work doesn’t know that, so we leave now.” He said and walked over to me, stretched his left hand and grabbed my Yellow bag. He grabbed my hand with his right to pull me towards the door.
  • He was sweet. He acted sweet and nice to me.
  • Who was I not to fall in love with him?
  • I often wondered how he would react if he ever found out.
  • Would he cut all ties with me?
  • That was one reason I had decided to keep it to myself.
  • “Okay! Okay!. Don’t pull off my arm.” I joked and struggled to get my arm free, but his grip was too hard, even though it didn’t hurt at all.
  • “ Say that to the car.” He said jokingly, even though it made absolutely no sense to me.
  • We stopped in front of the car, and he released my hand to open the front door.
  • “ Get in!.” He ordered, and I did without any thought or hesitation.
  • I was yet to know what my new job would be, but he had insisted that I come with him since there would always be an opening in his office, but I doubted that was the case. I believed that he was trying to open a way himself.
  • Maybe fire someone or something of that sort, and I really hoped he wouldn’t do that. That way, he would be no different from my former boss.
  • He got into his side of the car and started the ignition.
  • “Time for a long ride!.” He yelled and stirred the wheel.
  • I was glad. Happy that he was back to normal. That he was playful again.
  • The drive to his company was a quiet one. Not that he didn’t take to make small talk, but for a weird reason, I wasn’t interested in them. My mind kept running over the last few days' happenings. It had seemed like a dream. Maybe a nightmare instead.
  • I went from being independent and okay enough to feed myself to having to depend on Jax.
  • I don’t know how the previous ones handled it, but this was scary. It would have been scarier if I never knew him and had no one to turn on.
  • “You okay?. You have been quiet since.” He asked, and I pinned my lips together to let out an Mmm sound while nodding.
  • “I’m fine. Just a bit nervous, you know. It’s like going for an interview.” I said and heaved a sigh. My hands were shaking.
  • “You are going for an interview.” He said firmly, then added. “Only this time, I get to make the decisions.”
  • I smiled sheepishly and squeezed my head shut to take some alone time from the world.
  • The next thing I felt was his fingers on my left shoulder as he tapped me.
  • “Hey! Wake up!.” He said, and I drifted my eyes apart to stare back at the brightness in the car. I had almost forgotten what light looked like.
  • I placed the back of my left palm over my mouth as I yawned then I stretched out a bit.
  • “We are here.” He informed me, and I immediately jerked up.
  • That was fun. Up until a few minutes ago, we were far from here.
  • “When did we get here? Weren’t we just miles away from here?.” I asked curiously and watched his face form into a frown, and his eyes squeezed a little that I started to wonder what I had said wrong.
  • Suddenly it softened, and he burst out laughing.
  • “I can’t believe you slept off on your first day at work. It makes me wonder what you might do once you fully understand it. Should I expect you are spending your working time taking a nap, or it’s worse than that.” He said, and I rolled my eyes at him playfully.
  • I had barely slept a wink all night because I was nervous but why?. It wasn’t as if I wouldn’t get the job. I knew I would.
  • “Let’s go. We will be late.” I said and grabbed the door handle, flicked it and pushed it open then stepped out of the car.
  • He followed suit, and soon he was standing beside me. He heaved a sigh.
  • “Let’s go.” He said and walked forward while I walked behind him.
  • Soon we were standing inside the building, and it was beautiful and tall. So beautiful that I almost couldn’t believe my eyes.
  • “How many floors does it have?.” I asked curiously.
  • He placed his right palm under his chin, stroking it.
  • “Five, I guess. I lost count.” He responded, and I was shocked. Shocked that he didn’t even know how many floors his building had. “Come on! I was joking. It’s six. You should have seen your face.” He added with a soft chuckle.
  • Was it really that obvious?
  • I wondered and sent him a smile.
  • “You should have….” My words trailed off when someone cut in.
  • “Hi, Boss.” A feminine voice greeted us from behind and we titled our heads to watch her walk towards us.
  • “Hey, Bentley.” He responded, and she sent him a smile, then bowed her head slightly at me. “What about the Placa company?.” He asked.
  • She moved closer, and they started to talk.
  • Weirdly I felt left out. The whole business terms sounded strange to me. My eyes ran over her as I tried to take in every detail. Her beautiful lush Blond hair. Her perfect curve. Her perfect jaw. Her Oval face shape.
  • “They will be here in fifteen minutes. Mr. Daniel would love to see you.” She said, and he looked at her sternly.
  • He looked different. He seemed different. It was more serious. He looked more serious. It was like seeing a new Jax because he barely acted serious around me.
  • “He is here!.” He said in more of an exclamation form than a question form, and then she nodded.
  • “Yes. He is waiting for you in the meeting room. I’m sorry, I tried to stop him from coming in. Tried to tell him that you weren’t in yet and he had to come back, but he wasn’t willing to listen.” She apologized, and all he did was nod.
  • “I will go see him.” He assured me and turned around to look at me. “I’m sorry this was unplanned, but can you hang around while I deal with him and my clients? You can wait for me in my office, okay.” He added as he stared into my eyes. I chewed my upper lip and swallowed a lump of saliva that his gaze had formed in my mouth, then nodded.
  • “Thank you. Bentley will take you there.” He said as he tore his gaze away to look back at Bentley. “Take her to my office.” He added.
  • “Okay, Boss.” She responded with a bow.
  • I watched him walk away, his beautiful long legs graced with those perfect butts. It sent memories. Memories of his butts in full view right on….
  • “After you, ma’am,” Bentley said, her soft voice pulling me back from my thoughts.
  • “Yes,” I responded and stepped forward.
