Chapter 5 Forced On
- JAX’S POV.
- I opened my eyes to the rays of the morning sun. My eyes roamed the room, trying to remember what had happened yesterday. The banging headache confirmed that I probably drank more than I could handle, which was a first. Without looking, I knew I had brought someone home because I could feel the body heat radiating from my side.
- I sat up immediately, groaning, holding my head in my hands.
- What the hell did I drink?
- I glanced at the lady next to me, only to snap my head back in her direction.
- My eyes widened...... Aurora!
- I laid on my elbow to look at her face very well.
- It was Aurora! What was she doing in my bed?
- Immediately, my heart raced, and I raised the duvet that covered us both. My fear came through; we were naked.
- No! No!! No!!!.
- This can't be happening! How did I end up naked with my best friend on my bed?
- She stirred, and I watched her wake up; her eyelids opened, revealing her nature green orbs.
- I almost caught a hint of a smile on her lips, but her expression changed, almost like she was about to cry.
- Heavens! Don't let it be what I think it was.
- " Aurora! What is happening?." I whispered, but she just kept staring at me.
- " Why the fuck are we on my bed naked?." I yelled louder this time, and she flinched.
- I ran my hands through my hair, trying to calm down. She's probably as clueless as I am.
- I got out of bed, wearing my shorts, my back facing her.
- There has to be some explanation. I turned to look at her; she was sitting on the bed, the duvet covering her from the chest as her head bent low.
- I crawled back to the bed and grabbed her shoulders.
- " I really can't remember anything, Aurora. All I know is that I got drunk." I said.
- I used my finger to raise her face so she could look at me, and I could see tears trailing down her cheeks.
- " No! No!! Did I hurt you? Did I take advantage of you?" I asked, looking around her body, trying to look for bruises or any marks, but all she did was shake her head.
- " Talk to me, dammit!." I heaved. " What happened last night?." I asked worriedly.
- " You don't remember?." Her voice cracked.
- " I don't........" And then all the memories of the previous night came crashing into me with full force.
- Getting drunk......
- The voice in my head.....
- The wolf.......
- Sleeping with my best friend.......
- My hands shakily released her shoulders, and it almost felt like my whole world was crashing down.
- " Jax!." I felt Aurora tap my cheeks lightly " Jax, look at me. It wasn't your fault. You were drunk and broken, and I never should have taken advantage of you." She confessed.
- I stared at her numbly
- " I...I am a monster." I whispered, my voice breaking.
- " No! No, you're not. You are Jax Conrad, my best friend and a young CEO of a million-dollar company. You are not a monster. Please stop calling yourself that." She pleaded.
- I released myself from her hold and laced around the room.
- " I transformed into a wolf, Aurora. A freaking wolf." I paused in front of her. " This goes against everything I believe in because in my world, on planet earth, there is no such thing as a werewolf. For the love of God, they don't even exist." I exasperated.
- She winced.
- " How can I be the one thing I hate the most in this world?." I said in anguish.
- " I'm sure there's an explanation for this." Aurora said softly, " Why don't you take a shower? I'll prepare breakfast; then we can discuss all of this." She added.
- I sighed, nodding my head in agreement and headed for the bathroom. I paused as my hands pulled the door knob then I turned to look at her.
- "Aurora?" I called out.
- " Hmm." She hummed, looking up at me.
- " I want you to know that I'm truly sorry for what happened between us last night. I wasn't thinking clearly." I said soberly, wanting t to apologize.
- She nodded.
- " Do you regret it?." She asked.
- I stared at the floor.
- " I don't know," I responded and walked into the bathroom and shut the door before leaning my forehead on it.
- I think I just shattered my best friend, but I'll be damned if I let this incident ruin our friendship. I loved her too much to lose her.
- After finishing in the bathroom, I walked to the living room and went straight to the kitchen. The aroma of toasted bread, butter bacon and egg wafted into my nose. I saw Aurora dressed in my t-shirt with her bum shorts, and something about that scene made me strangely feel content.
- " Stop staring at me like that." She yelled jokingly. Her voice snapped me back to reality.
- " What?." I responded playfully with a smirk on my lips.
- I was glad, happy that things were already getting back to normal.
- " You need to stop boring holes in my back; you're distracting me." She dropped the spatula and stared at me. " You should go to the dining; I'm almost done here." She added.
- " Okay," I said and was about to leave when she stopped me.
- " Take this." She gave me a glass of lemon juice. " For your hangover." And she continued with her cooking.
- I looked at her before looking at my juice, then smiled and went to wait for my breakfast.
- A few minutes later, we were in the dining, eating together, and I decided to bring up the elephant in the room.
- " Why did you come to my place last night?." I asked curiously.
- Or was it because I had called and hung up on her halfway into the call? Or did she try calling, and I didn’t pick up?
- She gulped, folded her hands on her lap and looked down.
- " I got fired from work for no reason, my rent will soon expire, and I was so down. I only wanted to come to you because you always made everything okay." She paused the minute her voice quivered.
- I left my chair and squatted before her, holding her hands.
- She looked at me in tears. " I came home, and you were so drunk and scared, and I just wanted to comfort you. One thing led to another, and we.....we..." It broke again, her voice.
- She broke into tears, and I hugged her to my chest.
- " I'm so sorry, Jax. I should have stopped; I don't know what happened." She sobbed.
- " Calm down, babe." I stroked her hair gently. I couldn’t stand to see her cry.
- " It's okay," I assured.
- " No, it's not. I took advantage of you. I should never have done that." She continued with tears in her tears.
- " Hey! Hey!! Calm down; nothing is your fault. If I remember clearly, you wanted me as much as I wanted you. Okay?." I said, wanting her to feel better. I wasn’t sure if that was the case or not. I wasn’t sure if I had wanted her too, but…
- She nodded, and I raised my right finger to wipe her tears.
- " Now, let's fix the problem.” I paused, then continued. “ I mean the reason you came to me. So will you work with me?." I asked.
- Her eyes widened in shock. She opened her mouth t say something but closed it back. It showed that she was speechless, and I liked that.
- " I know, I've asked you before, and I respect your reason, but now you don't have much choice. Come work for me?." I said again.
- She stared at me for a while, and it seemed to be she was thinking about it.
- " Okay, I'll work for you." She finally said.
- " Now, about your apartment......" I continued, but she cut in.
- " No! No!!" She cut me off.
- I understood her. Aurora wasn’t the type to take favors from people or help too.
- " What!." I questioned.
- " I can't move in with you," She said and shook her head in denial to add the needed effect. It was so I would get how serious she was.
- " Why's that?" I asked curiously.
- " Nothing." She responded and wrapped her hands around herself. " I just can't." She added.
- That was a defensive move. I think I know what it was that she was so scared about.
- " Is it because of what happened last night?." I asked, and she raised her head to look at me, her eyes tearing up. " If you are that scared, I promise it'll never happen again," I assured. My heart aches that I had hurt her.
- She cried the more on hearing me say that.
- " Please, Aurora. Just stay with me. I'm tired of watching you suffer when I know I can do something to stop it. Please let me help you." I pleaded. I tried helping her many times, but she never let me.
- I hugged her tightly and placed my forehead on hers.
- " Please?." I added softly.
- It took a while for her to reply.
- " Alright. I'll stay here." She responded, a smile forming on her lips.
