Chapter 6
- CHAPTER SIX
- INDIGO'S POV
- “W-wait, we can all talk this out, can't we?” I stammered nervously, unconsciously moving back.
- “Talk about what exactly?” Lyriq spoke glaring intently at me and I felt a shudder down my spine. If I didn't do something and something quick this could all turn out very badly.
- “Do you have any idea what Valtor was about to do to you?” He hissed and my breath hitched. He had a point…if they hadn't showed up last minute who knew what would have happened.
- It was at that moment I was reminded that I neither knew Valtor or Lyriq well enough to be sure that whatever mate bond could guarantee my safety.
- “Perhaps you misinterpreted me the last time Lyriq but under no condition would I ever lay a finger talkless of harming Miss Larkspur.”
- “That's what you say but what exactly were you planning on doing to her?” Lyriq snarled back, not giving Valtor any room as he slowly approached him with strife written across his face.
- I just stood there watching everything, unable to even move or breathe…I was scared. I was scared out of my mind and didn't know what to do. I couldn't tell who was on my side and if I ended up being alone in all this I still couldn't use my powers properly.
- “And I would appreciate it if you'd stop claiming my mate Valtor.” Lyriq’s eyes sharpened as he shifted forms. Valtor laughed wholeheartedly as he switched to his dark furred form looking just as pleased.
- “You don't even care for her or particularly any one, so why does her being my mate bother you so? Is it because you feel intimidated or just because you don't want to lose to me?”
- “Like hell!” Lyriq roared before pouncing on Valtor and entering a power struggle with him.
- I felt a firm grip around my wrist and my head shot to my side with widened eyes as my heart raced.
- “No, no! Don't touch me…all of you just leave me alone!” I screamed out, shutting my eyes tight. All I wanted was to get away from here and never come back. Or at least an opportunity to think things through.
- “Calm down Indigo.” Gage's voice was sharp and precise, “This is not the time to start panicking, we have to get out of here. Now.”
- He loosened his grip around my wrist and intertwined his fingers in mine.
- “Just trust me right now, please.” My body eased up in response to his voice and I peered my eyes open slowly.
- At this point Valtor was thrown across the room by Lyriq. He didn't stay down for too long as he came at Lyriq with full force. In the heat of the moment, it was as though they had forgotten we were even here.
- “Through the window.” Gage said in a hushed tone. In the singular room there was a window and Gage didn't hesitate to reach for it. Only thing was this was a three story building and we were on the second floor.
- “Are you crazy? We can't go through…” Before I was even done completing my sentence Gage had already thrown himself out of the window and landed perfectly below.
- “What are you waiting for? Jump off already.”
- I still couldn't believe this was just my first day of school or a total nightmare. I lifted myself up against the window slab looking below at where Gage waved his arms at me ready to catch me at any moment.
- “Indigo!” I looked back with a flinch, “What do you think you're doing?” Lyriq shouted out. I took in a deep breath and dived forward before he could reach me.
- I momentarily saw my life flashing before my eyes. How I was ill treated by my own family, Kymir’s blown out rejection, choosing my own sister over me. My father never giving up a good opportunity to mock me and make me feel more less of myself with each passing day. I didn't have a single happy moment in my life.
- With a huge thud, I fell in Gage's arms.
- He caught me.
- As I looked up into those silvery eyes I was once fond of all those years ago I made a decision that I would be happy. I would fight and live for my own happiness for once.
- “Hope the trip wasn't too far down.” He said with a wide smile and I ended up laughing out loud.
- I spotted Valtor and Lyriq looking through the window with the angriest faces I had ever seen.
- “You are aware that you are in so much trouble Miss Larkspur!” Valtor blurted out.
- “We better go.” Gage said with a lightness to his voice as he placed me on my feet. He grabbed my hand yet again and we headed towards the forest.
- When we were finally far off from the hostel and academy it was like I could take in a fresh breath of relief.
- “You don't have to worry about Valtor and Lariq.” Gage said, probably because he could sense my worry.
- “Why? Because of the mate bonds?” I resisted rolling my eyes.
- “No, not just the mate bond. Because…” I looked at him and wanted to take into note every detail of what he would say but it seemed my attentiveness caught him off guard and he retorted.
- “Because what?”
- “Well…The sanctum—Valtor and Lariq have a lot of responsibilities as Alphas and as members. They wouldn't harm you and risk their positions.”
- I sensed hesitation in his voice and I had a hunch he was about to say something completely different but before I could press further he stopped me.
- “Shh–” he whispered. “I think we're here.”
- I looked around at the thick and dark forest around us with a furrowed eyebrow.
- “Where exactly is here?”
- “That elder I told you about. He's —a little bit of an odd one, a necromancer as well and he especially does not like people.”
- “Are you included?” I asked with a giggle and he rolled his eyes at me.
- “Obviously not.”
- “Who goes there?” A strange voice blurted out and both our heads went snapping backwards.
