Chapter 4
- GAGE’S POV
- The new elemental, so I heard from the Sanctum, was in this building. I had seen Lyriq a few minutes ago, and although he didn't say anything, I could smell her all over him.
- It was divine.
- I didn't attend the meeting because I was going to be bored as usual, the ladies usually handled the destructive parts, so I sat this one out. But now...I was intrigued.
- The last batch of wolves had gotten stuck in their dreams, so I was going to ask Valtor to help them. As an illusionist and dream walker, this didn't happen often- okay maybe it did.
- But that wasn't my fault and luckily, Valtor's classroom door was open, but the moment I opened it, someone came barrelling into my chest.
- There was that smell again.
- “Are you okay?” I asked, looking down and my eyes widened instantly.
- "Gage?" That honey-like voice asked and I just couldn't believe it. Was she who I thought she was?
- "Indie, is that you?" I said in absolute shock before clearing my throat, "You're…you're here."
- "Yeah, I am." She replied shyly with a little chuckle. “I have no idea why but I'm here. It's been ages Gage!”
- If she was the new necromancer the Sanctum mentioned then she… Goddess! She was the one who destroyed half of Southside’s border?
- “No way, you actually did that?” I blurted out and retorted immediately. I couldn't let her know the recent information from the Sanctum. But just how strong was she to have caused so much havoc with just a blast?
- “Did what?” She asked, placing her hand on mine in concern and I felt that static rush and the way my wolf jerked.
- Indigo was my mate?
- Mate mate mate.
- My wolf screamed and I didn't know what to make of this. Was Indigo my mate all this time?
- It did make sense since the last time I saw her was fifteen years ago. I was sixteen and she was about five. And even then, she was a bit meek and quiet and I found her insanely adorable.
- "Nevermind that. What are you doing here?” I asked her, trying not to make it awkward but I was sure we were way beyond that.
- "Apparently I go to school here now. There was some sort of attack...we ran and my powers were unleashed then, I was brought here by this Alpha- I think Lyriq was his name?"
- "Oh, yeah Alpha Lyriq.” I pretended to not have a clue, secrecy to the Sanctum demanded. I couldn't tell her that I was her mate either. Not like she'd believe me to start with.
- "So have you got your schedule?" I questioned as we started walking.
- "Seeing that the other Alpha dumped me at the front of his class and suddenly left, I would say...no." She snickered lightly and I was instantly captivated, "Gage, are you alright?"
- I shook my head to clear my hazy vision, "Yeah, I'm okay. We should get your schedule so it would be easier to move around. Who knows if you'd have training with me, huh?" I laughed and bumped her shoulder, my body tingling with excitement.
- "Thank you, Gage! You have no idea how much I really appreciate this. You know, I don't even know my dorm room. I feel like such a fool." She whined and I found it nothing but cute.
- "It's okay. We'll just get it now."
- We approached the headmaster's office and I stopped, she blinked back at me with wide eyes.
- "You're not going to come in?"
- "Oh, if you want me to then."
- "Yes, please." She looked like a frightened deer, I didn't blame her, everything must be so overwhelming for her.
- I knocked and a voice admitted us in, the short but buff man sat on the chair opposite us, his spectacles rested on his nose as he observed some papers.
- "Alpha Gage. Welcome, what can I do for you? I heard some of your students got stuck dreamwalking."
- "Correct, I was going to see Valtor about it when I met this lady, she's a new student and she told me that she hasn't received her schedule yet?”
- "Name?"
- "Indigo Larkspur." She responded.
- "Oh, the one Alpha Lyriq brought in. I was wondering when you were going to show up. Here, have this, your dorm room number and schedule is right there." He stretched out a paper to her and she collected it, murmuring a small 'thank you'.
- The moment we were out, she released the breath she was holding.
- "C'mon. That wasn't so bad."
- "Yeah. You're an alpha?"
- "Yes. My father died a while ago." I replied.
- "Oh." She went silent for a moment, "so most of you here are-?"
- I was glad that she didn't push the topic of my father anymore. "Yes, we are all alphas. And of course, volunteer teachers." I laughed.
- "Wow. That's so...awesome." She smiled at me.
- I wanted to bask in this moment. "Yeah, it is."
- "I don't know why Alpha Valtor dislikes me though." She started, "He said I'm his mate and that's impossible because I don't have a wolf. But I feel attracted to him and even Alpha Lyriq."
- What?
- But she was my mate.
- My pulse sped up.
- "Your mate?" I carefully asked.
- "Yes, I don't even understand anymore." She buried her face in her hands.
- "Calm down." I patted her back slowly, my throat burning as though I swallowed acid.
- "So you like Lyriq?" I asked slowly.
- "I don't know, aside from how he treats me, my body wants him. But I feel weird whenever I'm around him."
- "This feels like a glitch. But Lyriq and Valtor might actually be your mates." I told her with every bit of seriousness in me.
- "That's not possible. How can I have two mates?" She refused, shaking her head side to side.
- Make that three. Because I was very certain that she was my mate too.
- "About the way they treat you... Lyriq doesn't care about anyone. He's been a loner for a long time now, so don't take it personally. That's just how it is. It doesn't mean you're not his mate."
- "He was hostile to me,” she responded.
- "Exactly what I meant. He's hostile to everyone. And Valtor just doesn't care about people in general. His dedication is for his work and duties alone, and that includes being the alpha of his pack and teaching here at the academy. Besides that, I don't think he actually does anything else."
- "You know, if the moon Goddess was to even give me two mates, why didn't she give me mates that actually cared about me?" Her eyes turned glossy, "I have not a single idea of what I’m even doing and now I'm stuck in this academy where my mates hate me."
- "Don't overdo react okay, Indie? Don't worry, they can't ignore the mate bond-"
- She chuckled sarcastically, "Yes, of course. But deep down, you know they hate the idea of me."
- I took her hand and put it in mine, gently curling my fingers over hers. A bead of tear dropped down her eye and I used my other hand to wipe it off.
- "I care about you Indie, don't forget that," I told her.
- "Yes, we were friends before."
- "No, Indie. I'm also your mate.”
