Chapter 23 Argument

• I stood close to the door, my ear pressed against the wood, listening to the exchange between Williams and his grandfather. Their voices rose and fell, their words piercing my heart painfully. I bit my lip hard when I heard William's grandfather say I wasn't the standard of wife for his grandson.
• The old man wanted Williams to marry Mia, no doubt because of her wealth and status. I didn't even want to be William's wife, but the way they spoke about me made me feel like a worthless commodity.
