Chapter 60 Helpers Never Lack

  • Derek’s POV
  • I was both surprised and alarmed when I opened the door in my towel and my hair dripping wet to see Lisa standing there looking spent and very upset, making me want to pull her into a hug and never let her go. I quickly welcomed her into the house, told her to make herself comfortable and ran upstairs to get myself in some clothes. All the while thinking of the various reasons why she showed up on my doorstep this way. She usually doesn’t come to my house and the few times she has, she always puts a call through before showing up. I pulled on some a shirt and shorts, thinking about how to broach the topic just in case it was something she didn’t want to talk about , but something told me her mother had something to do with it. Lisa was one of the most unruffled and unbothered person I knew, she had this calm and collected that it took a lot for her to show any emotion. She protected her peace like a mother hen and prevented a lot of things from getting to her. But the one thing that was sure to get to her most times was her mother. It was as if the woman had a way of making sure that she disrupted the peace that Lisa tried so much to protect. I sprayed on some cologne, put on my slides and went downstairs. I was a bit surprised walking into the kitchen and seeing her drinking wine by 10am in the morning. I made myself some breakfast and joined her at the table. I guess she wanted to wait until I was done before spilling whatever it was that made her run to my house this early. I finished my meal and that was when she broke the news and it was like time stopped. How dare that woman?. Who did she even think she was?. Dropping in and out of her daughter’s life like that?. Who even does that?. I walked up to her and gave her the hug I knew she needed from the get go. I could feel all the tension in her body as I held her, the tears came and I was almost angry that I couldn’t do anything to ease her pain. I was angry that her own mother would treat her with such disdain. Everything she had done until this moment, I wish she would pay for. When she finally stopped crying and said she’d like to stay at mine for a while, I was elated, I get to have her around and she gets to stay away from that woman for as long as possible. I walk off to get the guest bedroom ready for her because I’m sure she would want her own space and I’m not one to impose my presence on others.
  • When I was done with the room, I went back to the sitting room to check up on her, I saw her seated in front of the television, holding a glass of wine in her hand and her phone in the other and she was staring at it with a frown on her face. What could be the problem now?. I walked up to her and sat down. Looking at her phone and back at her “what’s the problem?”. I asked. “It’s my mum, she’s been calling my phone off the hook”. “I haven’t picked any of the calls, so she started texting, saying she just wants to talk and how sorry she is for what she did”. “ but I’m not going to fall for this, not again. It’s what she does all the time and this time, I’m not buying it. She wants me to come back home. Says that Logan is gone”. At the sight of my raised eyebrow. “Logan is her new boyfriend”. She sighs deeply.” I don’t know what to do. I know that at some point, I’ll have to talk to her, but for now I have absolutely nothing to say to her. I don’t wan to hear her voice, I don’t want to hear her flimsy explanations and excuses because I know that each and every one of them will be full of rubbish”. “And you don’t have to”, I said. “You can stay here for as long as you like while you figure out your next move. What she did to you is very inhumane and unforgivable and it’s just not something to turn back from just like that. For every action, there is a reaction”. She smiled and said “ Thank you”. “ you’re welcome, I said. “And I mean it, you can stay here for as long as you’re comfortable” I said. “But I don’t ev have anything here, my clothes, cream, soap, they’re all at home. I’m even lucky that my phone is with me here “. “That’s not a problem, we’ll get you everything you need”. Her eyes were starting to fill with tears again. I placed my hand on hers “hey, hey, don’t cry. I just don’t want you to go back to that house for as long as possible Your room is ready,I’ll stock up the fridge today and I’ll make sure you’re very comfortable”. I said. “Oh!. I completely forgot. I still have the things I bought in my car. I never had the chance to bring them into the house”. She said. “I’ll do that immediately. Don’t worry about that. Everything will be alright. I hope your mum will learn her lesson finally. Let her know that she can’t do things like this and expect to get away with it. Let her have a taste of her own medicine and see how she likes it. I think you should take a shower. I left some of my clothes on the bed and you can just manage the soap there for now before we get yours”. I told her. ,”Thank you so much for everything. I don’t know how I can ever repay you”. She said. I chuckled a little. “you don’t need to. Knowing that you’re fine is all I need”.
