Chapter 16 Pinned Against the Wall

  • The one-month deadline had almost passed. During this fortnight, she hadn't seen those people she didn't want to see and her life seemed to be on track again.
  • "Melanie, I don't have anything to do today. Can you accompany me to get a haircut? My hair has grown quite a bit."
  • Melanie looked at her reflection in the glass. She had wanted to cut her long hair long ago, but she had been terribly busy recently. Besides, she didn't like having overly long hair as it was inconvenient to clean and manage.
  • However, because of Benjamin's comment about it being beautiful and his clear preference for it, she kept it for a year.
  • "Sure."
  • It was almost noon when they left the hair salon. So, the two of them went to a nearby restaurant, but she didn't expect that an unfortunate person tended to encounter trouble even while doing nothing.
  • "Melanie, look over there. Isn't that Mr. Moore? Who is the woman next to him? She's so beautiful. Is she his girlfriend?"
  • Melanie shifted her gaze away from the menu and glanced in that direction. It was during this glance that their eyes met. However, she quickly looked away and calmly replied, "Perhaps."
  • "That woman has got to be outstanding. Ah, I envy her..."
  • When Melanie caught sight of the girl's face that was full of girlish excitement, she couldn't help but think of her past self, utterly captivated by appearances.
  • "Why? Do you like him?"
  • Zoey propped up her chin and pursed her lips. "Is there any woman who wouldn't like him? He's wealthy, talented, handsome, and has a great physique. Most importantly, unlike other billionaires, he's not surrounded by scandals."
  • Melanie only tugged at the corner of her lips at her words. Yes, it did sound quite appealing.
  • Meanwhile, Thomas also noticed the people opposite him and raised his eyebrow as he looked at the two at the table.
  • "Isn't that Melanie in front? How did she become like this?"
  • Sophia glanced over and discreetly tightened her grip on the utensils in her hand. She couldn't help but admit that Melanie was beautiful, especially when Melanie seemed particularly stunning today. She was different, like a delicate and beautiful rose.
  • She wore a black turtleneck sweater and a beige coat, excluding a sense of competence and intellect. Her shoulder-length burgundy hair was captivating. So, Sophia glanced at the man beside her, asking with a probing tone, "Ben?"
  • Benjamin glanced at her. "What's the matter?"
  • Sophia smiled gently. "Aren't you going to greet her?"
  • He looked at her silently for a moment before saying in a deep voice, "It's cold."
  • Sophia's face turned pale. She lowered her gaze to the steak in front of her, seemingly reminiscing. "You used to cut the steak for me..."
  • Benjamin placed down his wine glass and calmly said, "Please excuse me for a moment. You guys enjoy."
  • She looked at his receding figure, her face filled with hurt and her eyes reddening. Then, she looked at the two men sitting opposite her.
  • Adam smiled, his voice still gentle but carrying a polite distance, "Miss Walker, do you have something to say?"
  • Thomas glared at him. He did not understand why Adam's heart did not go out for the fair lady. "Sophia, what's wrong?"
  • "Thomas, how is their relationship after being married for a year?"
  • He was taken aback, but Adam answered on his behalf, "It's good."
  • Sure enough, her face turned even paler. "How good is 'good'?"
  • Adam raised an eyebrow at her inquiries. "Well, let's just say that if you didn't appear, the Moore Family would have a great-grandchild next year."
  • He wasn't making this up as it was something Benjamin had drunkenly mentioned before. The family was pressuring him to have a child, so he asked him what he thought about it. Benjamin remained silent for a moment before saying, "No idea. If it happens, we'll have a child."
  • The knife and fork in Sophia's hand fell onto the table with a loud clatter. She looked shocked, a hint of panic in her eyes.
  • Thomas elbowed Adam, earning himself a cold glare in return, but the truth was never pleasant to hear.
  • In the restroom, Melanie washed her hands, raised her eyes to look at her reflection in the mirror, and smiled faintly. Sometimes, letting go of the past only took a moment. She seemed capable of remaining calm and indifferent seeing them as she was neither hurt nor affected.
  • Nonetheless, she would probably need more time to say that she had completely forgotten about Benjamin.
  • Melanie lowered her head to adjust her belt and walked out, feeling a surge of determination enveloping her entire being.
  • "Ah!" Her mouth was covered before her eyes widened. She recognized the familiar scent on her breath. Then, in a blink of an eye, he pressed her against the wall.
