Chapter 131 We Parted Ways
- Allacia stood outside the ward and waited anxiously. When she was finally told she could go in to see Alice, she took a deep breath and walked inside. The sight of the woman who had cared for her for most of her life lying still in the hospital bed brought a lump to her throat. Her eyes welled up, and despite her best efforts, tears spilled over.
- Determined to be of some help, she fetched a basin of warm water and gently began to wipe Alice's hands and face. Alice had always been a meticulous person, someone who took pride in keeping herself clean and presentable. Allacia knew that if Alice were conscious, she would want to be just as tidy now, even in her weakened state.
- Just as she finished, Alice's eyelids fluttered open, the movement so slight that Allacia almost missed it. Allacia's heart leaped and she hurried to the bedside and leaned close.
