Chapter 8 We Must Protect Our Kidneys
- “What are you doing here?”
- Mirabelle's flushed face darkened considerably as she stared at the man frostily.
- She snapped, “Get out! You're not welcome here!”
- “Belle...”
- Derek's smile froze as he cursed inwardly. D*mn it. How dare she act all high and mighty when she was already tainted by someone? But, if I don't get her to sleep with me, it would be even more embarrassing if people find out about it. What would the public think of me when they know that I, as the heir of a dignified and wealthy family, can't even deal with a nonvirgin?
- “Let me tell you something, Derek. You're not worthy of calling me 'Belle.' The only person who can call me that is my dad!” Mirabelle remained expressionless as she rebuked, exuding a chilling aura.
- She had a hunch that Derek had something to do with her father's sudden illness.
- It was too coincidental that as soon as her father was admitted to the hospital, Derek arrived with Quentin.
- In addition, they were adamant that Fraser had collapsed because of parasitic bug manipulation.
- Can he foresee the future? Or, the more logical explanation would be that he was the one who poisoned Dad in the first place.
- As Mirabelle came to such a conclusion, the look in her eyes turned colder. Staring daggers at Derek, she spoke. “Also, I will surely get to the bottom of what happened to my dad.”
- “Is that so? Do investigate. It wasn't me anyway!”
- Derek shrugged, appearing undaunted.
- “Y-You! Get out! Get out right now!”
- Mirabelle trembled all over with fury.
- She knew well that even if Derek did it, he must have already gotten rid of all the evidence.
- “Let me tell you something too, Mirabelle. You've signed the contract, so that means you are my woman. I'm kind enough for sparing Shersby Group!”
- Derek's expression had also turned grim.
- Fraser, who had been remaining silent with his brows furrowed, suddenly asked, “What contract? Belle, what's going on?”
- To not let Fraser worry, Mirabelle replied, “Don't listen to him, Dad. He's lying!”
- “Hehe... Do you really think I'll let things go after you tore the contract apart? You are also running a company, so how can you not know the basic rules of a contract? Besides, Dr. Hall was there too, so he can attest to that. With his connections and status in Wildefield, if he spread the word that you went back on your words, let's see who dares to do business with your family in the future!”
- Derek revealed his true colors and wore a barefaced look. “Also, Mr. Shersby was dying at that time, and even the doctors had given up on rescuing him. If it hadn't been for Dr. Hall's help, Mr. Shersby would have died! If you don't believe me, you could go and ask the director if they were the ones who saved Mr. Shersby.”
- “Why you...”
- Derek's blatant lies made Mirabelle so furious that she clenched her jaw tightly.
- Shameless people are the worst!
- Derek chuckled. “Mr. Shersby, Belle, I shall take my leave now. I'll come again in two days!”
- He put the supplements down and prepared to leave after seeing that he had successfully angered the woman.
- Click-clack!
- However, Mirabelle marched forward in her high heels, generating a gust of cold wind as she streaked past Derek and opened the door before he could.
- Derek laughed as he joked, “Oh, you don't have to walk me out.”
- However, as the door opened, a tall figure clad in plain clothes was standing in the corridor.
- “Get in here right now!”
- Mirabelle grabbed Nathaniel's arm and dragged him into the ward.
- “Um... I want to use the restroom!”
- Nathaniel felt puzzled as he didn't know what was happening.
- “Hold it in!”
- Mirabelle glared at Nathaniel in annoyance.
- In the next second, she put on a gentle and alluring look. “Darling, where have you been for the past two days? You didn't even come to visit me. I lost sleep because of that! I miss you so much!”
- “Uh... Stop this. I will not surrender for merely twenty thousand!”
- Nathaniel wasn't a fool. He could tell at a glance that Mirabelle was using him to anger Derek.
- Although he was not afraid of Derek, it didn't feel good to be used as a human shield.
- “Oh, did you run out of money to spend? That's fine, I'll give you one million later. You can spend it however you like!”
- Mirabelle held Nathaniel's arm with one hand and pinched his waist with another, silently threatening him.
- Nathaniel hissed in pain.
- Who says women are too weak to even unscrew a bottle cap? With her strength, she can unscrew anything!
- “Mirabelle...”
- It was Derek's turn to tremble all over with fury.
- He would have admitted defeat if Nathaniel was wealthier than him.
- However, Nathaniel was just a poor scavenger. Besides having charming looks, he wasn't even good enough to be Derek's servant.
- However, at that moment, Mirabelle was acting all lovey-dovey with the poor scavenger right before his eyes.
- It was utterly humiliating and infuriating.
- “What is it, Mr. Derek? Can't I flirt with my fiancé?”
- Mirabelle lifted her chin haughtily and felt satisfied upon seeing the grimace on Derek's face.
- “Mirabelle, h-he's your fiancé?”
- Derek pointed at Nathaniel with rage blazing in his eyes.
- No matter how I look, there's nothing special about him! Unless... he's special in terms of bedding women?
- Nevertheless, Derek remembered that Brodie had contacted Blacksteel, and it was only a matter of time before Nathaniel would be taken care of. Thus, it wasn't necessary for him to get mad.
- “Hehe... Sure you can. You have my blessings.”
- When Derek enunciated the last four words, he made no effort to conceal the murderous intent in his tone.
- “Thank you, and goodbye!” said Mirabelle before turning away, making it perfectly obvious that she wanted Derek gone.
- “All right.”
- Derek glared at Nathaniel as he strode out of the ward.
- “Phew...”
- Mirabelle breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Derek disappear into the distance.
- She then let go of Nathaniel's arm as her expression became indifferent again. “Okay. You can go now.”
- “Oh, so you're done using me? I'll be going to the restroom then. Holding back urine could really damage the kidneys, and as men, we need to protect our kidneys. That is because if our kidneys are healthy, the functions...”
- Nathaniel stopped mid-sentence and winked before going to the restroom.
- Suddenly, Fraser, who had been remaining silent, jumped off the bed and sprinted toward Nathaniel in bare feet.
- He grabbed Nathaniel's arm as tears streamed down his cheeks. “My savior, you've finally appeared...” he said emotionally.
