Chapter 3 The Innocence Of A Man
- Don't tell me... he's here for hush money?
- A sense of dizziness assailed Mirabelle, for she couldn't think of any other reason Nathaniel would show up at her office.
- After all, the first thing a scavenger who barely made ends meet would do upon learning that he bedded a wealthy woman with a net worth of over a hundred million was to extort money from her.
- Considering his hard work yesterday, I'll give him the money!
- Promptly regaining her composure, she ordered indifferently, “Go back to work!”
- After saying that, she pointed a fair finger at Nathaniel. “You, come with me!”
- “Me?”
- Nathaniel was likewise stunned, never having expected the world to be so small.
- It's only been a night, and we're meeting again.
- “Yes!”
- With a chilly expression on her face, Mirabelle nodded before spinning on her heels and marching into the elevator.
- “I'm going upstairs for a while, Meg.”
- Nathaniel followed her upstairs after informing Megan about it.
- In the elevator, Mirabelle remained expressionless, treating Nathaniel like thin air.
- Only after they had entered a spacious and luxurious office did she ask through gritted teeth, “Well, how much do you want?”
- “Huh?”
- Realization dawned upon Nathaniel that she mistakenly assumed that he was there to demand money from her.
- Smirking, he met her gaze and drawled teasingly, “How much do you think a man's innocence is worth?”
- A man's innocence?
- The corners of Mirabelle's mouth twitched. What about my innocence?
- Nonetheless, there wasn't much to say to a loser like him. Thus, she held up a fair finger. “A million!”
- “That's too little!”
- Nathaniel shook his head.
- “How dare you!”
- Glowering at him, Mirabelle slammed her hand on her desk. “How much exactly do you want? Name your price!”
- Meanwhile, in the lobby downstairs, Jonny went over to Megan, supported by two security guards.
- “Mr... Cadman!”
- Megan kept her head hung low, trembling slightly.
- I initially thought Nathaniel only dragged me here to reason with Mr. Cadman, but he unexpectedly hit the latter right off the bat. Worse still, the company's owner witnessed it. Rumor has it that not only is she from a powerful family, but she's also vicious and ruthless despite her beauty. If worse comes to worst, he might even have to go to prison!
- Mockery showed on Jonny's face, and his voice brimmed with resentment.
- “Why, you're afraid now, huh? Initially, I wanted to give you an opportunity to serve me, but you didn't appreciate it. Now, I've changed my mind. I'll tell Ms. Shersby that I'm suffering from severe internal injury and can no longer work for the company. What do you think she'll do?”
- “Uh... Don't do that, Mr. Cadman. Please let my brother off the hook! He was merely acting on impulse!” Megan implored with tears in her eyes.
- “Hmph! My stomach is still hurting right now!”
- In truth, Jonny only wanted to scare her.
- It'll never be enough to bed her just once when she's such a beautiful and innocent girl. Only when she realizes my might will she willingly become my long-term plaything!
- “Your stomach hurts, yes? I'll help to massage it.”
- Enduring the disgust, Megan stretched out a fair hand to massage the man's stomach.
- At that precise moment, the elevator doors opened with a ding.
- Taking in that scene, Nathaniel rushed over.
- Slap!
- A smack reverberated in the whole lobby.
- Like a spinning top, Jonny spun around a few times before he collapsed onto the floor on his butt.
- “You're dead! Not only am I going to put you in prison, but I'm also going to blacklist this b*tch!” he screeched like a shrew.
- “Sorry, but you're the one who'll be blacklisted!”
- Dusting off his pristine hands, Nathaniel took Megan's hand. “Let's go! The matter has been resolved!”
- “Huh?”
- Megan was startled for a moment. But still, she nodded. “Yes, let's leave quickly! Otherwise, it'll be troublesome when the police arrive!”
- “Security, stop them!”
- Needless to say, Jonny wasn't willing to allow Nathaniel and Megan to leave.
- However, the landline at the front desk rang just then. After answering the call, the receptionist nodded fervently.
- Then, she marched over to Jonny in her high heels. “Mr. Cadman, the HR department asked that you go over for your last paycheck. You're fired!”
- “Huh? That's impossible! You're lying! I want to see Ms. Shersby!”
- Jonny's face went as pale as a sheet.
- “Oh yes, the call earlier was from Ms. Shersby. She also instructed me to post the reason for your dismissal on the website of Wildefield's Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations, for you've been blacklisted!”
- After saying that, the receptionist flashed him a tight smile before sashaying back to the front desk.
- She, too, had been taken advantage of by the man. At long last, karma has gotten this old pervert!
- On the way back, Megan tugged at the hem of Nathaniel's shirt as they rode the electric bike.
- Sticking out her lower lip, she commented, “I didn't expect Ms. Shersby to be so nice that she fired the man.”
- “Yeah, she's pretty... good!”
- Nathaniel nodded solemnly.
- Ring! Ring!
- At that exact moment, Megan's phone rang.
- Seeing that it was a call from Isla, she answered it. “Mom! Okay... I'll come over right away with Nathaniel!” Then, she said to Nathaniel, “Quick, let's go to the hospital! Dad's condition has worsened!”
- “Calm down, Meg. Mr. Tasward will definitely be fine!” Nathaniel asserted in a low voice.
- The world merely knew that parasitic bane could kill, but in reality, it could also heal.
- As the young master of Poison Sect, he was wholly proficient at parasitic bug manipulation.
- Half an hour later, they arrived at the hospital.
- “Where did the two of you go? Your father is dying!”
- As soon as Isla caught sight of Nathaniel and Megan, she began wailing while scolding them.
- “I'll go and take a look at Mr. Tasward. Keep Mrs. Tasward company, Meg!”
- Having said that, Nathaniel entered the hospital room behind him.
- No sooner had he done so than a group of people rushed down the corridor. “Quick! Save my father!”
- “M-Ms. Shersby?” Megan reflexively called out upon hearing the woman's voice.
- However, Mirabelle's attention was fully on the elderly man, whose eyes were closed and looked deathly pale. Hence, she didn't hear her at all.
- Soon, the director of the hospital and various departments, as well as experts, rushed over. They all administered emergency first-aid to the unconscious elderly man in the nearest hospital room.
- A few minutes later, Derek stepped out of the elevator in a suit and leather shoes with an old man who appeared celestial in a white coat.
- “W-Why are you here?”
- Leaning against the wall, Mirabelle glared at Derek with red-rimmed eyes.
- “Well, I just want to tell you that your father has been poisoned with parasitic bane. Only Dr. Hall beside me can cure him!” Derek remarked placidly.
- After he had left last night, he phoned Mirabelle's father, Fraser Shersby. He told the man about his daughter's depravity, hooking up with a scavenger.
- Unexpectedly, Fraser was adamant about not interfering in his daughter's love life. As long as she liked the man, he didn't mind even if the man were a scavenger.
- Derek was so incensed that he smashed the phone right then and there.
- Subsequently, he ordered a subordinate who knew a bit about parasitic bug manipulation to sneak into the Shersby residence and poison Fraser with a parasitic bane.
- That aside, he bribed the most famous doctor in Wildefield, Quentin Hall.
- By doing so, he would be holding Fraser's life in the palm of his hands.
- As though verifying Derek's words, the director of the hospital pushed open the door, his expression utterly solemn. “Ms. Shersby, your father has been poisoned. Hurry up and transfer him to another hospital!”
