Chapter 5 I Will Trust You Just This Once
- Meanwhile, in the ward, Mirabelle's eyes were red as she stared at Derek, as if she was about to swallow him whole. “You liar! Didn't you say that Dr. Hall can save my father? I'm never going to forgive you!”
- Rip!
- As she finished her sentence, she ripped the contract into pieces before hurling it on Derek's body.
- “Um... I'll go and settle the score with Quentin!”
- Knowing that he was in the wrong, Derek opened the door and prepared to escape.
- Suddenly, something tripped him. He staggered and fell face down, almost losing his front teeth in the process.
- “Dang it...”
- When Derek looked up, he noticed Nathaniel retracting his leg.
- He was immediately enraged. “You idiot! How dare you trip me! You're courting death!”
- As he got to his feet, he swung his fist at Nathaniel.
- “Bring it on. I'm an idiot, so I won't be punished for murdering someone!”
- Nathaniel beckoned provocatively.
- “F*ck! Just you wait!”
- Derek noticed Nathaniel's tall and muscular build and thought it would be embarrassing if word got out that he was beaten up by the latter.
- Shooting him a glare, Derek quickly walked into the elevator instead.
- “Loser!” Nathaniel shrugged. After that, he turned around and pushed the ward's door open.
- Mirabelle was sobbing and holding Fraser's hand as she knelt beside the hospital bed.
- When she heard footsteps and turned to see Nathaniel, she was briefly startled. She soon ignored him and continued weeping. “Please wake up, Dad! Don't leave me alone!”
- Nathaniel scratched his head and questioned, “He isn't dead, so why are you crying?”
- He could tell at a glance that Fraser's heart had merely stopped beating temporarily due to a large number of parasitic bugs that gathered near his heart.
- Glaring at Nathaniel with reddened eyes, Mirabelle roared, “You... Get lost!”
- Even the doctor had given up, so what does this fool know?
- “It's up to you whether you want to believe it or not!” Nathaniel couldn't be bothered to explain.
- “Hmph. I'll trust you just this once!”
- Mirabelle wiped her tears and hurriedly exited the ward.
- Although Nathaniel is a simpleton, Dad's condition is already bad enough. How worse can it be, right?
- Nathaniel sighed and said, “Mr. Shersby, since I took your daughter's virginity, I'll help you just this once!”
- Having said that, he placed his palm on Fraser's chest.
- Suddenly, a cloud of black mist entered his palm.
- Parasitic bane was most probably evil and terrifying to ordinary people, but to Nathaniel, it was replenishing. The more poisonous the parasitic bane was, the more he liked it.
- “All right then, Ms. Shersby. We'll give it a try!”
- At that moment, the director's voice came from outside the door.
- He hurried in with a few doctors, turned on the defibrillator, and tried to revive Fraser.
- Actually, they had already lost hope. If even Quentin couldn't save Fraser, what else could they do?
- Despite that, as doctors whose responsibility was to save patients coupled with the fact that the Shersby family was considered a second-tier family in Wildefield, they still had to go through the standard operating procedure.
- Buzz...
- To everyone's surprise, Fraser coughed and opened his eyes after a surge of electric current was sent to his heart.
- “Dad!”
- “We did it!”
- Mirabelle and the doctors were overjoyed.
- Looks like I don't owe you anything anymore!
- After glancing briefly at Mirabelle, Nathaniel turned around and left the ward silently, returning to Megan's father's ward.
- Isla was looking at the long medical bill while sitting on the hospital bed. Her wrinkled face was full of worry, which made her look more aged than her peers.
- Nathaniel felt bad to see her like this and couldn't help comforting her, “Don't worry, Mrs. Tasward. Mr. Tasward will surely wake up soon.”
- “Wake up? Do you think I'm an idiot? How can an unconscious person who has been lying in bed for three years wake up?”
- Nathaniel's words triggered Isla's fury. She blew her top and pointed at the man before continuing, “Do you even know why my husband is lying here in the first place? It's because of you, you fool! He traveled overnight to bring you back from another town and took you to a doctor. That's when he tripped on the stairs and hit his head! If it hadn't been for a jinx like you, my husband would be fine, and our family won't be in this state!”
- Initially, Isla didn't want to bring that up. Nathaniel was just a fool, and it would be useless even if she had mentioned that.
- However, the medical fees that cost more than twenty thousand pushed her to the verge of breaking down.
- For the past few years, the family had been heavily in debt due to Howard's condition. To make matters worse, the emergency treatment cost twenty thousand. There was no way Isla could afford to pay such a huge sum.
- Thus, she broke down and vented all of her emotions at once.
- “So he's like this because of me...” Nathaniel was stunned.
- Back then, he was seriously injured and fell unconscious. That was why he didn't know what had happened.
- “That's enough, Dumbo. You shouldn't be here. Get lost and go to gather some scraps.”
- Isla waved her hand feebly, gesturing to Nathaniel to leave.
- After a moment of pondering, Nathaniel said, “I don't want to be a scavenger anymore, Mrs. Tasward. I want to find another source of income!”
- As the young master of Poison Sect, I am well-versed in both martial arts and parasitic bug manipulation, so it should be easy for me to earn money, right? Why should I be a scavenger?
- However, Isla misunderstood the man's words. She hollered furiously, “You fool! Now you're being picky? I've raised you for three years, and I know you like the back of my hand! What else can you do besides scavenging?”
- “Fine. I'll go and do some scavenging. Meg, come with me for a moment.”
- To avoid further angering Isla, Nathaniel didn't say anything more.
- After he and Megan exited the ward, he said in a low voice, “Give me your phone. I'll think of a way to settle Mr. Tasward's medical bills.”
- “Do you have a plan, Nathaniel?”
- Megan was surprised.
- “Yes. Hand me your phone.”
- “Oh, okay!”
- Megan was a bit puzzled, but she still handed him her phone.
- Nathaniel then entered Fraser's ward with the phone.
- Although Fraser had woken up, he was still quite weak and couldn't speak.
- Mirabelle was holding her father's hand tightly with a look of affection and tenderness in her eyes.
- When she saw Nathaniel reappear, she asked softly with a frown, “Why are you here?”
- “To borrow some money!” Nathaniel replied as he flashed the phone in his hand.
- He had been a fool for the past three years, so Isla didn't even give him a phone.
- “Borrow some money?”
- Does he want to blackmail me again?
- Mirabelle's pretty face darkened as she stood up abruptly.
- While exuding a cold air of dominance, she approached Nathaniel. “If you want money, come to the rooftop with me!”
- “Okay.”
- Nathaniel nodded and followed Mirabelle into the elevator.
