Chapter 12 I Sell My Skills Not My Body
- The next day, in the CEO's office of Shersby Group, Mirabelle was sitting behind her desk, staring intently at an email.
- It was sent by the private detective—whom she hired for a hundred thousand—to investigate Nathaniel's identity.
- “It looks like my dad was just overthinking it.” Mirabelle shook her head before deleting the email.
- The private detective had concluded, based on his investigations, that Nathaniel was nothing more than a scavenger.
- As for her father's claim that he owed Nathaniel a debt of gratitude for saving his life, she figured that it was nothing more than blind luck.
- There's no way Nathaniel was responsible for it. However, tomorrow is Father's birthday, and he insists on inviting Nathaniel. Forget it. I had better not get on Father's nerves. When Nathaniel attends the birthday party, I'll give him a sum of money and both of us will be even.
- Once Mirabelle made up her mind, she grabbed her keys and left the office.
- Half an hour later, a luxurious Mercedes-Benz arrived outside the entrance of a low-cost apartment.
- Professionally dressed in a black suit, Mirabelle made for a stunning and captivating sight as she open the car door and alighted.
- Nathaniel was in the yard, chatting jovially with Howard.
- Sensing the approaching visitor, he turned his head and was slightly surprised. Why is she here?
- “You... Come with me for a moment.” Mirabelle gestured with her head before getting back into the car.
- “Okay!”
- Nathaniel took his leave from Howard before leaving the yard and getting into the front passenger seat. “What is it? Were you drugged again?”
- “D-Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?” Mirabelle blushed as she threw Nathaniel a piercing glare.
- Subsequently, she started the car engine and began to drive leisurely.
- “Hey, where are you taking me? Don't think that just because you have given me twenty thousand, you can do whatever you want. Only my skills are for sale, not my body,” Nathaniel remarked cheekily.
- “Hmph, shut up! No one is going to complain if you just keep quiet.”
- Gritting her teeth, Mirabelle could feel her chest trembling in anger.
- When they finally reached somewhere secluded, she slammed on the brakes before informing him with an indifferent expression, “Tomorrow is my dad's sixtieth birthday.”
- “Okay, you are going to bring ugly me to meet your parents as your husband?” Nathaniel meekly asked.
- “Don't let your imagination run wild! We're just going to have dinner. After that, I'll give you a sum of money, and don't you ever show up in front of me again,” Mirabelle asserted in an icy tone.
- “I get a free meal and money on top of that? It's well worth my while. I'll definitely be there early,” Nathaniel readily agreed with a nod.
- “By the way, are we doing anything else? I'm a busy man after all.” Nathaniel swept his gaze across Mirabelle's slender figure.
- This woman looks good without clothes but even better in them.
- “Get lost!”
- Mirabelle's hand—the one that was holding the steering wheel—began to quiver as she desperately tried to suppress her rage.
- “Okay, I'll see you tomorrow.”
- Nathaniel swiftly slipped out of the Mercedes-Benz.
- It wasn't until Mirabelle floored the accelerator and sped off did the nonchalant expression on Nathaniel's face gradually faded away.
- Based on Ronan's tip-off, Derek has gotten in contact with Mr. Draco and even invited Quentin together with members of the Chamber of Commerce for a secret meeting at their mansion. Given that it spanned the entire night, they must be up to no good. If I'm not mistaken, they likely plan to cause trouble during Fraser's birthday banquet. In that case, I'll drop by tomorrow and see what Derek has hidden up his sleeve.
- The next day at Prominent Estate—a lavish estate for relaxation and entertainment owned by Shersby Group—the expansive open area at the entrance was filled with luxury cars even though it was just eleven in the morning.
- In Wildefield, the Shersbys were considered a second-tier family.
- Hence, their relatives, business associates, and even high-ranking government officials naturally attended the event out of respect.
- Dressed in a red suit, Fraser stood at the entrance and greeted his distinguished guests, glowing with joy.
- What surprised him the most was that Ronan of the Cloud Brotherhood had come with his subordinates, bearing a huge gift.
- Naturally, he was there upon Nathaniel's request.
- As he was worried that Derek might stir up trouble, he sent Ronan to keep an eye on the situation.
- Arriving right after Ronan was Nathaniel, who had traveled there on his electric bike.
- Ronan, who had just walked up to the entrance, had his lips twitched at the sight of Nathaniel. This big shot really knows how to keep a low profile.
- Nonetheless, Nathaniel instructed Ronan to keep his identity a secret to which the latter nodded discreetly.
- With that, Ronan led Blacksteel and his other subordinates through the estate's main door.
- “Haha, Nate, you're here too!”
- Fraser, smiling ear to ear, strode down the steps.
- “Mr. Shersby, I didn't manage to get you anything particularly special, but here's a bottle of wine.”
- From the front of his bike, Nathaniel brought out a bottle of medicinal wine that he had concocted himself.
- Even though he didn't spend much money on it, the wine was extremely potent.
- Fraser would be able to strengthen his body and extend his life if he drank it for the long term.
- “Haha... I appreciate it. I appreciated it very much. Men, bring Nate's medicinal wine inside for me.”
- After taking the bottle of wine from Nathaniel's hand, Fraser pulled the former's arm. “Later, you'll be sitting at my table, as I want to introduce you to my relatives.”
- “Um... Is it really necessary?” Nathaniel replied with a wry smile.
- It was undeniable that Fraser treated Nathaniel really well. However, his daughter, Mirabelle, didn't share her father's sentiments at all. It was evident from the frosty look she gave him.
- If it wasn't for the fear that Derek might cause the Shersby family trouble, Nathaniel wouldn't have attended the event.
- “Why not? You're single, and my daughter is available, which is a wonderful coincidence. Besides, both of you have...”
- Fraser pulled Nathaniel along without giving him the opportunity to decline.
- A short while later, the sharply dressed Derek arrived at the estate's entrance with his entourage.
- Even Quentin, who showed up at the hospital once, was also present.
- Looking up at the estate's sign, he sneered, “Prominent Estate, what an ugly name. It should just be called Pissing Estate instead!”
- “Hahaha... Prominent Estate, Pissing Estate. Mr. Derek, what a great name you have given it.”
- The men standing behind Derek began to guffaw loudly.
- Turning his head around, Derek asked insidiously, “Hehe, are the presents ready?”
- “Yes, they are!” his men answered with a nod.
- “I hope that the Shersby family is capable of holding onto these three expensive presents of mine.”
- After throwing the crowded courtyard a glance, Derek swaggered his way inside.
