Chapter 5 It Was Him
- About half a year ago, Derrick had convinced her to go to a nightclub with him. There, she had happened upon Liam in an embrace with another man…
- Liam knew that she was Derrick’s girlfriend and asked her kindly to keep his secret for him.
- Because of that, the two of them became close. They couldn’t be considered best friends, but they knew they could trust each other.
- Liam arched an eyebrow at her, “Great minds think alike! When I heard of what happened, I had the same idea.”
- “So, you agree?” Gillian asked.
- She did not know for sure if Liam would go along with her plan, but she never thought that he would come up with the same idea.
- After all, with the Porter’s name and power, while Liam wasn’t particularly doted on by his grandfather, he could still attract loads of eligible ladies with a crook of a finger.
- The only ace she had up her sleeve was that she knew his secret and had promised not to divulge it.
- “I’ll agree just for the shares!” Liam smiled widely but there was a sly glint in his eyes that Gillian had never seen before.
- As a matter of fact, before yesterday’s incident had even happened, Liam had found out something even more interesting. His grandfather had document written up that disclosed if Gillian was ever to marry into the Porter family, she would be transferred a portion of shares.
- As long as Gillian and Liam could pull this off and convince everyone that they had feelings with each other, his grandfather couldn’t exactly force her to marry Henry. And so, he would get double the number of shares.
- This was too good of an opportunity to miss.
- “Good! Do you have your ID card? Let’s go get registered now.” Gillian stood up immediately.
- “That fast?” Liam chuckled.
- “Of course! There’s a higher chance that something will go wrong if we drag it out!” Gillian nodded decidedly.
- She did not want to be cheated on, nor did she want to be left with nothing!
- She wasn’t discriminating Henry for being disabled. It was just that… Rumors had spread about him being cruel and violent. In bouts of anger, lives were lost.
- As long as she married Liam, all her problems would disappear.
- Liam stood up and looked at his watch. “My ID card is at my grandfather’s house. I’ll have to go and sneak it out. Give me two hours. Meet me at the Civil Affairs Bureau in the northern area at one o’clock.”
- “Okay!”
- …
- In the afternoon, at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
- Gillian glanced at her phone repeatedly, but Liam still hadn’t appeared. In her unease, she called him, but his phone was turned off!
- “What is going on?” Gillian frowned. Did something happen?
- “Gillian, sorry for keeping you waiting!”
- Suddenly, a deep voice came from behind her. Gillian’s downcast eyes lit up and she turned around.
- But…
- It wasn’t Liam.
- Instead, it was Henry in his wheelchair and behind him was his assistant, Kevin Black.
- Henry had styled his hair and was dressed in a black suit. He looked startlingly handsome, as if he were going to attend an event.
- Although he was staring ahead without focus, Henry smiled gently and warmly at her.
- “Miss Wesley, after receiving your mother’s call, we went back to retrieve the ID card. There was quite a bit of traffic on the way here. Sorry to have kept you waiting.” Kevin explained apologetically.
- Gillian was stunned speechless. She had been waiting for Liam and now Henry was here with the booklet.
