Chapter 7 I Want to Invite Him to Dinner
- Ian went upstairs and stood behind the door to eavesdrop. From the conversation, he could feel that Wilhelm was good to Ivan and had been protecting him.
- It seemed that Rosie dropped the idea to divorce. Ian was relieved. He knew his identity was Ivan now. For that reason, Rosie was his wife. He should take care of her. Besides, she was pretty and had a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ivan was a coward in the past, and Ian had a plan in his mind. He had to gradually prove to Rosie what a real man he was.
- However, after a hot bath, Ian felt sleepy. He was exhausted after a long day. Moreover, Ivan’s body was too weak. He fell asleep as soon as he lay on the bed.
- If it weren't for Rosie’s shriek at the door, Ian could sleep until tomorrow morning.
- “Ivan Griffin, get out of bed now!”
- Rosie covered her eyes and lowered her head shyly. She had to close the door and lower her voice as she was afraid that her parents would hear her downstairs.
- "What's wrong?" Ian opened his eyes and saw Rosie’s face was flushed with anger.
- Rosie had complicated feelings. She felt aggrieved and depressed at the same time. Although Ivan saved her life before, he only had an IQ of a kid. He was far from what she expected for a husband. She needed a man who could accompany her and become her soul mate. Thinking of that, Rosie had no idea how she was going to spend the rest of her life with him.
- Seeing Rosie leaning against the door with tears welling up in her eyes, Ian sat up and explained, “I'm sorry. I'm too tired and fell asleep.”
- “It’s okay. Your clothes are in the cabinet over there. I’m going to take a shower.” After saying that, Rosie took a deep breath and wiped her tears. She did not want to argue with Ian. She turned around and walked into the bathroom. She was tired too, and was thinking to go to bed early.
- When Rosie finished showering, Ian had changed into his pajamas. He had his hands behind his head and was staring at her.
- Rosie felt awkward. Ian seemed unusual after being hiit by a car. However, she could not tell what it was. She sat down on the bed and asked, “Why did you go to the bar last night?”
- "I'm in a bad mood,” Ian replied. He had Ivan’s memory and remembered clearly what had happened. However, Ivan had an IQ of 10 years old. Not only that, he was an introvert and was inexperienced in many things. Nonetheless, Ian thought it was a good thing for him.
- Hearing that, Rosie was stunned. It seemed that Ian was not stammering and was talking like a normal adult. “Are you mad because I hit you?” she asked.
- “Yes, I have my pride too, you know,” Ian answered.
- Pride?
- Hearing that, Rosie was startled. She had forgotten that Ivan had grown into a man even though he was not clever. Her slaps that morning really hurt his pride.
- “I’m sorry,” Rosie apologized, her voice softened.
- “It’s okay. You’re my wife. I forgive you.” Ian pursed his lips and continued, “But please don’t treat me like an idiot in the future. I will prove to you that I’m a good husband.”
- “Okay, I promised, as long as you stop giving me trouble.” Rosie did not take Ian’s words seriously. She was too tired. “It’s late. I’m going to bed.” She yawned.
- “Good night, honey.” Ian smiled and closed his eyes.
- In fact, that was the first time Rosie talked so much with Ivan. Ivan always locked himself in the room, and Rosie had to go to work everyday. Sometimes, they did not even see each other for half a year. Not only that, they did not even hold hands before. Moreover, Roșie slept on the bed, and Ivan slept on the floor even though they were a married couple.
- Did I go overboard? Rosie asked herself. However, she quickly shook her head. Even though Ian spoke clearly like a normal adult now, she had no feelings for him.
- Ian, on the other hand, was not bothered about that. He only wanted to earn more money to buy expensive medicinal herbs so that he could refine them into miracle pills to recover Ivan’s body.
- It was only when Ian recovered Ivan’s body that he could utilize his inner energy fully. By that time, he could acquire fame, power, and money as he wished easily.
- By then, Rosie would be proud of him. No woman could resist a man who was indomitable. In fact, Ian was such a man before he died.
- In an antique study, a man with gray hair and a black vest was smoking a pipe. The atmosphere in the room was serious.
- “Dad, he killed all the 3 kidnappers and 2 wolves with bare hands. I saw it with my own eyes. He saved me, and I want to invite him for dinner.”
- Cindy had changed into a white dress. Her long black hair fell over her shoulders, revealing her delicate collarbone. She looked like a princess from a fairy tale.
- “Cindy, it’s not that I don't believe you. I’ve checked his background with Mr. Walker, the Chief of Police. His name is Ivan Griffin, 25 years old. He’s the adoptive son-in-law of the Young family and has been living in the Young residence since he was a child. He has never gone to school, nor has he left Riverdale. His body is weak and has an IQ of a 10-year-old kid. So, tell me. How could he kill all the 3 kidnappers with a gun and 2 wolves with bare hands? Did you have an illusion because you were too scared at that time?” Desmond expressed his doubts.
- Desmond was an experienced businessman. He had seen a lot of people. What Cindy said did not make sense at all.
- How could a weak and unintelligent man shoot all the top wanted criminals by himself? Moreover, he killed wolves with bare hands. Even a specially trained soldier might not be able to do that.
- Cindy pouted her lips. It seemed that Desmond did not believe her. “I don’t care. I want to invite him to dinner. He stabbed a wolf with a wooden stick and saved my life. He’s my hero.”
- “Cindy, give me some time to investigate again. After all, he’s staying with the Young family. We can always invite him to dinner. Why not you go to bed first?” Desmond had no choice but to coax his daughter. However, he felt an unprecedented sense of insecurity. Ivan was an idiot. Not only that, he was a married man. Desmond could not let Cindy fall in love with him no matter what.
- Desmond decided to investigate himself. If Ivan was really an idiot, he would not take him seriously. However, if Ivan was a normal adult but pretended to get close to Cindy, he would like to teach him a lesson.
- Desmond went downstairs and saw Aiden pacing in the living room.
- As soon as Aiden saw Desmond, he asked nervously, “How’s Cindy? Is she okay?”
- “She’s fine. She’s frightened by what happened, but she will be fine after taking some rest. Aiden, I’m sorry to ask you to come at this hour.”
- “It’s okay.” Aiden helped Desmond to a chair and sat down.
- Although Desmond was only 50 years old, his health was deteriorating. He had overworked himself taking care of his businesses.
- Desmond was pleased with Aiden. Although he was young, he had taken over Dragon Training Dojo, the family business. Not only that, he was good at fighting and won many awards in international competitions.
- Desmond wanted Aiden to marry Cindy after she graduated from college. The more Desmond looked at Aiden, the more delighted he was.
- Needless to say, Aiden was more than willing to marry Cindy. Not to mention that Cindy was beautiful, Desmond was one of the richest men in Riverdale. Moreover, he also had a close relationship with the mayor.
- Although Aiden came from a powerful family, it was not as powerful as the Jones family. He wanted to climb the ladder to become even more successful.
- “Aiden, can you kill a wolf with a wooden stick?” Desmond asked after putting down his pipe.
- Aiden thought for a while and shook his head. “It’s impossible. Wolves live in the wild, and they are cunning. It was said that they will rub their bodies against pine trees to make their fat congeal on their fur to enhance their defensive power. There’s no way one could kill a wolf with a wooden stick.”
- "I see.” Desmond frowned.
- According to what Cindy said, Ivan killed the wolf easily. Does that mean that Ivan is stronger than Aiden?
- Desmond was suspicious. However, he was a well-educated man. He would not deny one’s capability simply.
- After thinking for a while, Desmond asked, “Aiden, can you accompany me to meet someone tomorrow?”
